A Little Bit About "Haunted Castle" and the Main Plot
"Haunted Castle" is rated as the most popular episode of the cartoon Inspector Gadget on the Internet Movie Database or IMDB for short. In this episode, the world's greatest detective Inspector Gadget has been sent to Transylvania by his boss Chief Quimby in order to investigate a plot by Dr. Claw. Dr. Claw is planning to sabotage a law enforcement convention that will be taking place in the former home of Count Dracula. However, Haunted Castle is one of those episodes where Inspector Gadget does not receive a phone call from his boss like he usually does. Inspector Gadget discovers the Chief at a place called Skull Inn. In fact, Haunted Castle marks the third consecutive episode where Inspector Gadget does not receive a phone call, the two others being Health Spa and The Boat. Your question may be how does Inspector Gadget discover the Chief's whereabouts?

How Inspector Gadget Discovers the Whereabouts of His Boss Chief Quimby
Inspector Gadget, his niece Penny and their loyal pet dog Brain, approach the place called Skull Inn and knock on the door. Someone opens the door and that someone happens to be Chief Quimby who was hiding in a costume. Chief Quimby asks Inspector Gadget if he was being followed and the Inspector just laughs at his question because he thinks that the Chief was or is playing a joke on him. It is at this moment that Chief Quimby explains that law enforcement officers from all over the world are planning to meet up in Count Dracula's former home for the convention. The Chief also says that people have been hearing strange voices up in that castle. However, Inspector Gadget thinks that the idea of people hearing voices is just nothing more than superstitions. Interestingly enough, both Inspector Gadget and Penny do not believe in ghosts at all. Haunted Castle is one of those episodes in which the Inspector’s phone doesn’t ring.

Why is Haunted Castle So Popular? 2 Guesses
It is possible to surmise that perhaps the reason why the episode Haunted Castle is so popular is probably due to the Halloween style theme that there is in this episode. The episode may also be popular because this is one of the few times in the history of the cartoon series that Inspector Gadget proves that he is useful and dependable. Here are a few examples that illustrate that inspector Gadget actually is able to prove his usefulness:
How Inspector Gadget Proves That He is Useful and Dependable
- Inspector Gadget saves Penny and Brain from certain death after the Gadget Mobile runs into some spikes and the car careens off the road and lands on a tree branch. If the Inspector had not acted quickly enough, the Gadget Mobile would have fallen off of the tree branch and it would have fallen many feet all the way down to the ground.
- When the Gadget family enters the castle and Inspector Gadget is taken down to the basement of the castle by Brain, he thinks that some doors must have secret buttons. He discovers a secret door just like Penny had discovered a secret passage earlier in the episode when she went down to the castle’s basement.
Memorable Quotes From the Episode Haunted Castle
"Were you followed?"
"Were we followed, that's a good one!"
This dialogue takes place when Inspector Gadget reaches Skull Inn.
Final Thoughts on the Episode Haunted Castle
Even though the episode Haunted Castle and Eye of the Dragon are two of the most highly rated Inspector Gadget episodes on IMDB, there are several other episodes in the history of the animated cartoon series that deserve much more consideration. Haunted Castle is at least somewhat interesting because of the way that Inspector Gadget is able to prove that he can be useful and logical.
