Why This Episode Is the Weakest Episode of the Second Season
Even if it has been mentioned that the episode Volcano Island was the worst episode in the first season of the cartoon Inspector Gadget, Gadget in Mini-madness is definitely the worst episode in the second season of this animated series. If the previous episode called Gadget’s Gadgets was entertaining, this next one has action in it but the idea of having gremlin style creatures in a cartoon episode is a bit cheesy and detracts from the overall quality of the episode.
A Brief Description of the Inspector's Mission
In this episode, Inspector Gadget gets a phone call from Chief Quimby as he is getting his car washed in a car wash. Inspector Gadget is “alone” in this episode because Corporal Capeman has been set off to Secret Agent School for the purposes of getting more training. Chief Quimby is actually hiding in the place that has the revolving devices that can wash the car. How does the Chief not even get injured? Nevertheless, the assignment says that there is an attempt on the Inspector’s life.
Is Chief Quimby One Step Ahead of Inspector Gadget?
Chief Quimby offers to take his best agent down to police headquarters until things get settled down. But Inspector Gadget tells him that he will do better than that by hiding in the Gadget family home. In his guess and logic, Inspector Gadget thinks that he will be safe if he locks himself up in the house. But even Chief Quimby knows the dangers of having five gremlins like creatures pursuing his best agent will be very dangerous for Inspector Gadget. I myself was never a big fan of horror themed cartoons or movies as a child because they would scare me to death.
A New Character Makes His Debut In Episode #72
The episode also features the debut of the character Professor Doomkauf, an evil scientist that does the bidding for Dr. Claw. In this episode, viewers are introduced to the Linguinis, a parody of the creatures in the 1984 movie Gremlins. In this episode, the Professor wonders why Dr. Claw isn’t too pleased with Inspector Gadget. Dr. Claw really lets him know about it.
The Gadget Family Dog Brain Really Shows His Intelligence
These Linguinis are five little creatures that try to get Inspector Gadget but thanks to his very smart and loyal pet dog Brain, the Linguini’s cannot get to Gadget. The only thing that they are able to do is to bite his finger which got caught in the door of his Gadget Mobile due to carelessness while closing the garage door of the Gadget family home. The Linguinis are able to wreck the kitchen of the house and throw food all over the place but every attempt by the Linguinis to get close to Inspector Gadget fails every time because Brain is able to use the house remote control to keep these little thugs at bay. Even near the end of the episode when the Linguinis corner Brain, he still finds a way to keep them out of harm’s way. One common theme throughout the series is that Dr. Claw does not really realize what saves Inspector Gadget from his demise.
Are there any positives to the episode Gadget in Mini-madness? Well, the amount of action in the episode is certainly not lacking but the idea of having a parody of the movie Gremlins makes this episode a little less than desirable. The almost full absence of the character Corporal Capeman in this episode may please some viewers.
