Review, A Christian Perspective: Hocus Pocus 2

Should Hocus Pocus 2 be viewed in the Christian home?

On Friday, Disney released their sequel to the notorious Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus. Much like the original movie, Hocus Pocus 2 has many (and more) dark, spiritual aspects.

In the beginning of the movie, the Sanderson sisters are young teens. The film covers how Winifred comes to discover her powers and how she acquires her spell book, Book. Witchcraft is prevalent throughout the movie, but that is to be expected.

There are many scenes in the movie that display the all seeing eye that is commonly associated with the occult. There are many references to Satan and phrases like, "have fun with Satan," throughout the movie.

This movie is also full of cross dressing and drag queen characters. Throughout the movie, extras are wearing Halloween costumes, which makes sense, because the movie takes place on Halloween night. There are a few scenes were these characters speak and it is obvious they are men dressed as women. Otherwise, this is not super obvious.

There are a few uses of the word "hell" but there is no other foul language.

There are a few references of Winifred and Billy (the Zombie seen in the original Hocus Pocus) being lovers. The movie also mentions Winifred and Billy sharing a kiss. There is also mention of Billy becoming Sara's lover. Some of the characters have low necklines, revealing cleavage. In a scene the Sanderson sisters are flying on brooms and Sara's legs are bare. A garter is seen on her leg. There are no sexual scenes or nudity in the movie.

Over all this movie is thick with occult content and Christian parents may want to consider watching this movie, and praying, before allowing their children to watch. Some scenes in the movie may be scary or disturbing to young viewers.
