Ranking All of the Harry Potter Movies From Worst to Best

Worst: Deathly Hallows pt 1(2010)⭐

This movie could have been good if it was combined with Deathly Hallows pt 2.They could have made a longer movie instead of splitting the book into two movies. This may have resulted in less filler and more plot development. There was not much plot for the first movie which resulted in a very slow pace throughout the entire film besides the first 30 minutes. It was a pretty boring movie and the only thing that stands out is the cinematography and the racey scene with Hermonie and Harry. I know they wanted to get more money and this is why they split the last book into two movies. But this resulted in a lackluster script, acting, and slow cinematography which made for a boring movie.

Worst: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban(2004) ⭐

The prisoner of askaban plot is the most confusing in the Harry Potter franchise. This movie deals with time travel and new characters with glossed over character development. It is a missed opportunity by Warner Brother's to make a good movie about time travel. It is only if a person has read the book that they would understand what is going on. A movie should be able to stand alone on itself and not have to rely on the book to entertain and provide the plot. This movie may be a fun watch if someone is not looking too closely at what is going on especially during the time travel scenes.

Bad: Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince(2009)⭐⭐

The acting specifically stands out to me when it comes to Half Blood Prince. If they did not have as many cringey moments within this film it would have been more enjoyable. The other awkward part of this movie is the romance and dating aspect. This could have been such a fun movie but there was a lot of push of romance between the characters. Harry and Ginny have the least amount of chemistry on screen and it really shows. The love triangle between Ron, Hermonie, and Ron's new girlfriend can be funny during some parts but overall is lackluster. It is unfortunate that the acting is cringey in this movie .

Somewhat bad: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix(2007) ⭐⭐

There is not much leeway between Half Blood Prince and order of the Phoenix. This movie is more about preparing for battle against the dark Lord. Some sequences were the kids learn how to fight with magic is entertaining and fun. The actress playing Umbridge does a fantastic job at portraying this psychotic and menacing mistress of hogwarts. She plays a better villian than the dark Lord himself. The ending sequence can be considered underdramatic but it touched the heart nonetheless.

Somewhat bad: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows pt 2(2011)⭐⭐

The last movie of the franchise could have been better but it only included scenes from the final battle. The kiss between Ron and Hermonie is so very awkward and did not feel natural in anyway. There is a lot of death in this movie because of the war. The way they shown the dark Lord die was probably the worst special effects I ever seen. It looked like confetti was covering his entire body. The fighting scenes can be somewhat enjoyable but also make the audience uncomfortable especially scenes between Harry and the Lord Voldermort. This movie did an okay job ending the franchise but there was something lacking and that sucks because it could have been a better ending. The ending battle was a fun watch especially when it comes to the fighting scenes between characters. If they combined pt 1 and 2 they could have had a better pace and be able to cut out unnecessary stuff to the overall plot. This movie felt like it was jumping all over the place with the plot and characters.

Good: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)⭐⭐⭐

The Goblet of Fire does a better job at having a pace that is not too slow or fast. This helps provide a balance for the plot which also works for book to movie adaption. The Goblet of Fire is about a tournament between the magical schools. It is fun to see the difference between the schools and meet new characters outside of Hogwarts. The tournament's challenges have difficultly and magical elements. It is a fun ride to go on throughout the film. The ending of the film really helps the viewer see the transition between this fun magical world to now this dark and evil world that Harry and his friends now have to face. This is my favorite Harry Potter movie and book because of the fun plot.

Better: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets(2002) ⭐⭐⭐⭐

What makes Chamber of Secrets better is that the director concentrated more on the story and character development. These are severely missed in the later Harry Potter movies starting in the third installment Prisoner of Askaban. It is evident that this movie concentrates on the plot from the book with extra care that could have helped the later movies be better overall. It is unfortunate that the director was different moving forward after the second installment. The Chamber of Secrets is a longer movie but it does a good job at capturing the magic that we all want from the Harry Potter franchise.

Best: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone(2001)⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The first Harry Potter movie was able to capture the magic that we all look for in Harry Potter. It may be nostalgia or that this movie does an overall good job at setting the scene for the next 8 movies. We meet Harry Potter and we go on this magical adventure with his friends. We see the magical wizard world for the first time which is inspiring. We are met with evil first hand but this does not deter us from the good part of magic. That is what makes the first movie a good kid movie. As Harry grows up, the movies tend to get darker in themes but the first movie really sets the stage for the rest of the franchise.
