Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Strict Rule For Friends

Meghan Markle, 37, and Prince Harry, 33, have a lot of friends. Most of them showed up at their wedding on May 19, 2018. They have been in the public eye a lot since then. They were in the news a lot as singles but more so as a married couple. These days, almost everything they do, say and wear becomes news.

Both of them have always been popular. Meghan grew up in Los Angeles and has a lot of celebrity friends. Besides, she was in the public eye because of her starring role as an actress on the legal drama Suits for seven seasons. Of course, Prince Harry has been in the news all his life.

In order to have a little more privacy, the royal couple has come up with a strict rule for their close friends and those in their inner circle. This is to keep some things involving their personal lives out of the newspapers, magazines, off every television set and from every social media site.

The Strict Rule

Today, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are the most talked about members of the royal family. News about them just keeps coming.

The happily married couple has reportedly come up with a rule for their friends. If they do not follow the rule, they will be dismissed from their inner circle, according to a top royal source.

The rule is that their friends must not talk to the press about them. They are trying to keep their lives private as much as possible.

Both Prince Harry and Meghan have agreed that if their friends talk to the press, then they will no longer be welcomed in their inner circle.

Code of Silence

According to Vanity Fair, the code of silence is more to protect Meghan because Harry really doesn't care about what is written or said about him. When they first started dating, Harry asked the press to back off and stop harassing Meghan. He never did it for himself, but he is defensive when it comes to his wife.

Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl says Prince Harry thinks there is just too much "hysteria" around Meghan and he wants some of it to be curtailed.

A Hard Rule to Follow

It might be a little challenging for friends not to talk about Prince Harry and Meghan, but the strict rule is for friends not to speak to the press about them.

Meghan's friends have to be very careful because most of them have a very large social media following. For example, one of Meghan's best friends Jessica Mulroney posted a black-and-white photo of the two of them together on her Instagram page. She wished Meghan a happy 37th birthday on August 4. The caption read, "My favorite birthday girl."

The post went out to Jessica's 229,000 followers. It was public knowledge that it was Meghan's birthday. However, the photo was quickly deleted without an explanation. Apparently, Jessica had second thoughts after being made aware of the strict rule. After all, she and Meghan have been best friends for a very long time, and she doesn't want anything to ruin that relationship.

Being Very Careful

More and more friends will have second thoughts before they post anything on their social media accounts about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Even if something is innocent, it could be considered breaking the code of silence.

The consequence will be too great to take a chance. Therefore, friends are being very careful about what they post on social media.

  • Meghan Markle's Best Friends
It is good to have close friends, and Meghan Markle has plenty of them. In fact, when she got married there were too many friends to choose from to be her maid of honor. Therefore, she chose neither one of them.

Apuchu, I agree with your comment.

Thanks, Rose, for your comment about the strict rule the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have for their friends.

Rose Goodwin on August 14, 2018:

I think they have every right to ask their friends not to say anything, yes they are in the public eye, they knew there was always going to have something said about them good or bad. They don't need their to be as stupid. This is my family, and I don't like things to be said.

Norma, I agree with you. Now Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will definitely find out who their true friends are.

Teresa, I also agree with you about what you said about Meghan's dad. He keeps giving interviews and every time he says he would not speak to the press again, he does it again. Meghan's mom is moving to London next month and that will probably tick him off. So, he might speak out how he is being left out of his daughter's life.

Good for them, now they will know their genuine friends. Wanting to see them for private satisfaction and not for gains.

Donna and Louise: Yes, true friends will follow Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wishes.

They have so much to deal with, but they will be fine because they have each other.

Louise Powles from Norfolk, England on August 13, 2018:

I can understand why there is a strict rule for their group of friends. It must be very hard for Meghan to be married into such a family. However, you cannot help the man you fall in love with. But she seems to be coping well.

Donna on August 12, 2018:

It is not hard for true friends to follow.
