Park Bo-gum is a Psychopath in "Hello Monster"

"Hello Monster" is a South Korean action-crime television series that also goes by the title, "Remember Me." It was aired by KBS2 on June 22, 2015.

A criminal named Lee Joon Young (Choi Won-young) escapes from prison, murders a police inspector and separates the dead inspector's 2 sons Lee Hyun (Seo In-guk) and Lee Min (Park Bo-gum), whom he takes with him. 20 years pass and Lee Min's identity as Jung Sun-ho, a successful Lawyer meets his brother Lee Joon Young, who's known as David Lee in the present time. David Lee doesn't recognize the younger brother.

David Lee's vast intelligence about crimes and criminals earns him a slot in the investigation team and crosses his path with Cha Ji-an (Jang Na-ra), a police inspector whose father has also disappeared mysteriously with Lee Joon Young. They work together to solve crimes with a goal to find Lee Joon Young but along the way, David Lee finally recognizes that Lawyer Jung Sun-ho is his brother Lee Min. He gets disheartened at his discovery because upon investigating a crime, he finds out that his brother is a killer psychopath who was raised by Lee Joon Young. This becomes a big hurdle for David Lee to imprison Lee Joon Young because he's also protecting his long lost brother, whom he believes has become a psychopath because of him.

"Hello Monster"

I was intrigued with the title itself, "Hello Monster" which also goes by the title "Remember Me." Either way, whichever title they want to use, I was struck with an enormous curiosity as to why it received poor ratings from TNmS and AGB Nielsen, both nationwide and in Seoul National Capital area. I have seen some reviews both from the audiences and critics and I have only seen praises and good feedback on the show. Since I am a sucker for mystery thrillers, the ratings didn't stop me from watching all 16 episodes and it was so good that I only watched it in 2 days.

From its first episode, I had a strong inclination that I would indulge in it and I really did. This TV series is too addictive that I didn't even want to stop watching. I learned way too much about psychology. The lines, delivery, characterization and the whole story just gave me so much admiration and at the same time, more curiosity. The series just flat out presented existential-humanistic theories where it understands criminals, serial killers and psychopaths by digging into their motivation, genes, development, traits, subconscious and even their unconscious minds! This is unbelievably impressive! I even learned how forensic science works and it was really surprising how the detectives, lawyers, police officer and forensic scientists put their acts together during criminal investigations to identify bodies, motives or to collect evidence. Just how they did their brainstorming or researches made my jaw drop from the thrill and excitement. The writer is a complete genius!

Park Bo-gum is a psychopath?

This TV series really showed how diverse Park Bo-gum is as an actor. Everyone knows how sweet, innocent and overly polite he is so I was completely shocked of his portrayal as a psychopath in "Hello Monster." This was really a different genre for him and he gave everything that he's got to spook the audience with his evil grin, criminal mind and wicked looks. Hiding that sweet personality of his must've been a big challenge for him but he didn't just wow me, the audience and critic recognized his hard work and has won Best Supporting Actor and Popularity Award during the 29th KBS Drama Awards in 2015.

My words couldn't express how very much impressed I am at his character as Lee Min, most especially that he switches characters from being sweet and would all of a sudden give me goosebumps for being evil again. He did looked like a psycho on this series, not just because of the way he looks at people but most especially with how he delivers his lines. The acting seemed real to me that I almost believed he was evil. But then of course, Park Bo-gum is someone nobody could ever hate. So while watching him as a psycho, I still gave benefit of a doubt that the story would turn around and show his good side...I was right.

The Mother? It's not a classic movie though so I just took a guess.
