What does Oprah believe?

The $64,000.00 question that is on the minds of many these days has to do with Oprah Winfrey and her faith-based beliefs. The business mogul';s fans want to be in the know regarding her faith. In an interview about the OWN series titled Belief, ” Winfrey said the following: “Through his broken body on the cross and his resurrection, they have hope beyond the troubles of this world and the promise of eternal life.” This sounds like the media mogul is a Christian who believes that Jesus is the only way to heaven. She spoke of His death on the cross and resurrection and eternal life, so should this not indicate that she truly believes? Those who watched the series finale of Greenleaf might have the same impression considering, Lady Mae preached about the cross and salvation, and her grandson AJ gave his life to the Lord. Oprah was the executive producer of the show alongside creator Craig Wright. Oprah has said she is a Christian but decades ago she stated that Jesus can't possibly be the only way to heaven. You can hear this for yourself when you listen to the video. One might assume that anyone who brought forth a show about the church and who spoke of Christ's broken body must be saved, but not necessarily. This can be deceptive.

Michael Landon and Jane Fonda

I was sitting in the dentist's office one day waiting on my grandmother and began reading a Newsweek Magazine. An article about Michael Landon intrigued me and I can recall it to this day. Excerpts from it can be found in various places on the Internet. I will share one like here. In the interview, Landon, who was dying of pancreatic cancer said his children were begging him to accept Jesus as Lord and Saviro so he would go to heaven. The actor replied that he believed Jesus was a good man but not the son of God. This shocked many who had watched Michael Landon on Little House on the Prairie, Bonanza, and Highway to Heaven which all had Christian themes. Landon observed Christmas in his programming and on Little House they talked about Jesus during church services. In the episode finale, the townspeople of Walnut Grove walked away singing Onward Christian soldiers. This lets us know that a Christian production can be displayed on the small or large screen without those who are in charge necessarily actually ever having confessed Jesus as the Son of God. Romans 10:9 tells us: If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, though shalt be saved. Actress Jane Fonda proudly proclaims she is a Christian but says she has a problem believing that Christ died for her sins. She insists she is a Christian but the Bible teachers otherwise.

Oprah's choice

Some fans say they believe that Oprah must now truly believe or she never would have given the green light for Greenleaf. Something to consider is that Christianity was portrayed in the show as a way of belief but not once did anyone ever emphasize that Jesus is the only way to heaven. Only Ms. Winfrey knows what she believes deep in her heart and if she has chosen Jesus, I'm sure she will share it at some time and place. What we cannot do, is assume where someone is with the Lord based on a television program. Oprah's statement regarding belief and the way Greenleaf ended would seem to suggest a certain direction, but unlike Merle Dandridge, Keith David, Laamon Rucker, and Lynn Whitfield, Ms. Winfrey has not made a public declaration recently of what she believes and it's possible she never will. Oprah's statement that Christ cannot possibly be the only way, could indicate that she believes He is for those who choose Him, but that others can find God through different paths. Oprah says she is a Christian but has never said personally if she believes Jesus is the only way for her own salvation. This is where people get tripped up. You might say that none of this matters as faith is indeed personal. That is true to a point, but many enquiring minds desire to know the heart of the woman who is putting their faith on television. Considering Michael Landon's situation, anything is possible. The Bible says we are to know people by their fruit, but perhaps we need to inspect the fruit a little closer. If a nonbeliever like Michael Landon could fool so many, there obviously is much more to bearing good fruit than family-friendly "Christian" entertainment. In the meantime, those who want to know what Oprah believes will just have to watch and wait.

The way of salvation is a mystery, and except one sees the way to God in that light one would continue to make different postulations about the way leading to God base on morals.

Morals have been in existence for long, but God finds it insufficient to get people back to him.

People need to know this and understand it.

Good work ma.
