One More Sleep Until Amy Rose Is Back On the Radio With New Christmas Single

Shannon is a passionate country fan who enjoys getting to know the artists and their music. She also loves spreading joy through interviews.

Country singer Amy Rose is full of both sass and class, she knows how to make someone laugh, and I always learn something new each time I have a chat with her. This time around I learned that Canadians say zed instead of zee, Canadians refer to Veteran’s Day as Remembrance Day, and that I have an accent she can’t understand when I talk too fast. So I had to look up the history of zed versus the zee to find out that zed used to be a thing in the U.S. too. I’m so worldly that I had to also confirm that Remembrance Day in Canada is on the same day as Veteran’s Day in the U.S. And I lose an argument with friends up North who tell me that I’ve acquired a Texas accent. Ah, good times, yes indeed. But the real fun began when we started talking about Amy Rose’s new Christmas single called “One More Sleep.”

Only a few selected stations received the song ahead of its scheduled release on November 12th because it was important to Amy Rose that the veterans received all of the attention they deserve. But now that the 12th has arrived, it’s safe to get into the Christmas spirit (for most of us, that is). Some of you in the United States may have to wait until after Thanksgiving turkey is served and your favorite football team wins to fully appreciate the more melodious sounds of the season. However, I’m all for a Happy Thanksgiving tree that obviously doubles as a Christmas tree, and especially all for the release of new Christmas tunes! Hopefully, you’re ready as well because Amy Rose was kind enough to discuss her new single and share her idea of a perfect Christmas. Take a listen to the song as you read all about it. Enjoy!

"One More Sleep" Lyric Video

Why Did You Choose This Particular Song to Record?

“One More Sleep” was written by Leona Lewis, Richard Stannard, Iain James, Jez Ashurst, and Bradford Ellis. Leona Lewis, the winner of season three of the X-Factor in the UK, originally recorded the song. She released it six or so years ago, somewhere along that line. I heard it and I fell in love with it. Her version sounds like a mix of Motown and pop. I can remember saying that I wanted to do a country version.

This year we took a bit of a hiatus after “Put a Lime In It” was released two years ago. We were working on other things and my schedule was pretty crazy, but in the midst of the hiatus I was still doing shows and traveling on tours. I figured what better way to come back to radio than to come back with a sparkling new Christmas tune.

Is There an Entire Christmas Album in the Works?

Just the one single. I would love to do an album in the future, though. I love Christmas!

Are There Any Music Videos Planned?

There will be a teaser video released the day after Halloween. The lyric video will be released on the 12th with the official release of the song to the US, the UK, and Canada. This is the first single for which we have had three divisions of promoters. There’s a team for each region. The song will also be released for sale on all the major social media outlets on the 12th.

When Did You Record “One More Sleep”?

It’s funny because we started talking pre-production in July. It’s when we officially started saying let's get a move-on on the song. We just got the master back two weeks ago, though. My vocals were recorded in mid-September and early October.

Is It Hard to Get Into the Spirit So Far in Advance of Christmas?

I remember being down in Florida learning the song to the way that I was going to sing it and then coming back from Flordia doing more pre-production. But, I mean, Christmas is one of my favorite holidays so as hard as it was to get into the Christmas spirit in the heat of the summer, it’s definitely my favorite holiday. Christmas was the one holiday where holiday we were spoiled to death. I know Christmas isn’t about that and it’s about the traditions and giving to others. We’ve certainly got a lot of that in our family, too. I just love it.

“Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime.”

― Laura Ingalls Wilder

What Are Some of Your Favorite Family Christmas Traditions?

What we normally do. . .Well, for the last five years or so we always hosted a Christmas Eve party with 50 or 60 of our closest family and friends. Starts at 3 p.m., and it used to be that people come in for appetizers and drinks and then left. But it turned into a big, big party where people left at 11 p.m. or midnight. This is the first year in a while we’re going low key and stay family oriented. We plan to get up and go to a Christmas movie at a theater then go to The Mandarin Chinese buffet for dinner. Every year I buy matching Christmas jammies for the entire family. We will get into them and make cookies for Santa before we snuggle up.

When I grew up we used to have an artificial tree that we put up. And then I met my husband. I’m a city girl. My family is really, really redneck. A cross between Duck Dynasty and Honey Boo Boo, but we also grew up in the city. My husband grew up in the country. Where he came from is like population 20, you know? Small town. So we’re like complete opposites, but when I married him I said on our first Christmas we’ll just go buy an artificial tree. He had none of it. So the first Saturday in December we go to the tree farm and we walk around forever and a day and the kids pick out the perfect Christmas tree. We cut it down and bring it home. We’ve been married now for nearly 15 years, but we’ve been together for almost 20 years. So for the last 19 ½ years we’ve been doing the real Christmas tree. I can’t imagine an artificial tree now. I love the evergreen smell.

Snow White Christmas or Warm Beach Christmas?

No, I couldn't imagine it not being a white Christmas. I think it was a few years ago when it didn’t snow until the first week of January. I remember being outside and don’t remember it happening in my lifetime except for that year. I remember being outside in the backyard in our T-shirts, it was so warm. It didn’t feel like Christmas. I’d like the snow to come like two days before and then leave the day after Christmas. The first snowfall of the year is always exciting and then I’m done. If I could walk around in sandals all year long that would be ideal. My toes would not like that, though.

Following Christmas, the New Year Comes Quickly. What Are You Most Excited About For the Coming Year?

We’ve got a lot in store for 2019. . .The new single and video for a tune releasing in early 2019. March or Aprilish. A fun upbeat rocking country song. We’re going to hopefully go on a tour. I have some writing dates in Nashville scheduled. My oldest daughter graduates high school. Not happy about her going away to college, but happy she’s graduating. We plan to focus more on music. It’s going to be a great year!

Stay Tuned, Folks. . .

Amy Rose has teased me with the title of the new single coming to country radio early next year and teased me even further with a little of what it’s about. Let’s just say that I can’t wait to write a teaser for everyone else just as soon as the time is right. After, you know, you enjoy this Christmas ditty here, that is.

I'm out of touch with country music. At one time that's all I listened to. That's the long way to say I've never heard of Amy Rose. :( Thanks for sharing a little of her here.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 12, 2018:

I know, AB, right? I did this interview before Halloween, which got me a little amped up. Now I am really ready for Christmas. Maybe it's just because I have no plans for Thanksgiving this year. But also I love giving gifts to others. Such fun. Everything about the season, including the music.

Amy Rose has more music and singles on YouTube and you can also find them on other interviews I linked at the bottom of the page. Thanks for reading and for listening!

Angie B Williams from Central Florida, USA on November 12, 2018:

Thanks for this Shannon.....I am officially in the Christmas spirit now!

Amy Rose has a beautiful, booming voice and I am looking forward to hearing more from her in the future.

Well done.

Shannon Henry (author) from Texas on November 11, 2018:

Thanks, John. It was funny because she was trying to spell the name of a writer so that I got it correct and I couldn't understand what she was saying. She even spelled zed and I was clueless until she said zee. LOL

It is a nice Christmas song. Sort of has a nostalgic feel to me and, speaking of Remembrance Day, reminds me of a wife or girlfriend missing a deployed soldier.

John Hansen from Australia (Gondwana Land) on November 11, 2018:

Nice Christmas song, Shannon. I enjoyed the Amy Rose interview too. Here in Australia, also being part of the British Commonwealth, we have Remembrance Day as well, and call the letter Zed. We have a lot in common with Canada I guess. Good article.
