Sometimes she "binge-watches" movies and shares her thoughts about them.

Inception is a science fiction directed by Christopher Nolan. The starring actor is Leonardo DiCaprio Supported by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard, and Ken Watanabe.

Great psychological thrillers, whether books or films, have a away of making you start to question reality.

You know it is just fiction, but when it gets gripping, you ask yourself whether some of it is true.

You might even change how you perceive people around you, life, or yourself.

Inception is that kind of movie.

Inception reminds me of Edgar Allan Poe's poem, "A Dream Within a Dream."

In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

The Inception Movie Plot

Are you awake? Are you a figment of someone else's dream? Has someone stolen your dreams, or inserted fake dreams into your mind?

When you wake up, do you really wake up, or are waking from one level of dreaming to another?

Inception takes you on a man's travels to change a past through dreams. What if what you think is reality is actually a dream? It's a movie about, dream theft, dream extraction, and dream inception.

The film begins with a scene whereby a man is washed ashore and found by agents. He only has a gun and a unique totem in his possession.

He is Dom Cobb. He informs Mr Saito that "once an idea has taken form in the brain, it's impossible to eradicate."

"In a dream, your conscious defences are lowered and that makes your thoughts vulnerable to theft."

The premise that since ideas can be stolen from the mind, they can also be implanted, is what lands Dom on Saito's hands.

An idea is like a virus. Resilient. Highly contagious. The smallest seed of an idea can grow. It can grow to define or destroy you.

Dom and his team set out to accomplish Saito's mission: implanting in a son the idea to bring down his father's empire.

The team comprises of a chemist, forger, dreamer, and an architect of dreams.

They face various challenges during their mission including falling into limbo (unconstructed dream space) and getting stuck in dream state. You can get stuck in a dream for months or years. If the sedation is too heavy, the dreamer might never wake up.

Also, the more time spent in dreams blurs a person's perception of dreams versus reality, hence putting their life at risk .

Furthermore, there's the risk of the dreamer they are trying to sabotage realizing they are in a dream. In some cases, someone can have his subconscious mind trained to defend itself from dream invaders.

Dom's wife, Mal, experiences a blurring of reality versus dreaming. She made irrational decisions as a result, leaving Dom aggrieved and without access to his children.

But did she really lose touch with reality? What if she was right and was "going home to her real children?" Watch the movie to make your own judgement.

There is a way out of the trap when the reality-dream boundary becomes thin; a totem. It's important for everyone to have a unique item that can pinpoint whether you are dreaming or are in the real world.

"Inception" means "the beginning of an organization, official activity, system, or agreement."

In the context of this movie, inception is a program that was initially designed for military use for dream extraction.

Therefore, Inception it is a fitting title. Every main event and the main character of the movie, lead to the issue of inception.

The dream has become their reality.

Inception is an enjoyable movie if you like fantasy, Sci-Fi, and psychological thrillers. It will keep you at the edge of your seat, waiting for that moment when everything is revealed and you understand what is going on, wondering which of the characters is in the real world.

The most memorable scene to me was when Saito is advised to buy the entire first-class cabin and flight attendants, he responds, "I bought the airline. It seemed neater."

It's fast-paced, with action scenes, some humor, and heart-stopping moments. It's a cleverly written script, that requires the viewer to pay attention, lest you miss key points. The movie has brilliant graphics especially in regard to world-building.

Although on the surface Inception seems focused on entertaining the viewers, deeper themes are evident.

For instance, it seems Dom is motivated by the thoughts of his family; his wife and children. Also, the team is a show of strong friendship bonds.

Furthermore, the villain brings about the theme of greed and power since he is determined to do whatever it takes to see rival empires fall.

Therefore, my rating for Inception is 5 out of 5. Around a decade later since its release, I can still recommend it to the relevant audience, or probably rewatch it a few times.
