From Mel Gibson’s racist rants to Russell Crowe’s violent outbursts, Hollywood has its fair share of condescending and ill-mannered celebrities. Yet at the same time, it is home to some of the nicest people out there – celebrities that not only have an easy-going, kind personality, but also help others whenever they can.
#4 - Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks’ nice guy attitude precedes him. If there’s one actor that both fans and film industry insiders say is the real deal, it’s Tom. As typical of most modest, down-to-earth celebrities, Hanks also donates to many different charities. Patient with fans, engaging and entertaining in interviews, and all around classy, Tom Hanks is a throwback to the classic actors of Hollywood like Paul Newman.
#3 - Hugh Jackman
Hugh Jackman is not only one of the nicest Hollywood celebrities, but also a model family man. Unlike most Hollywood leading men who constantly change romantic partners, Hugh has been married to the same woman since 1996, who is also 13 years his senior. He supported his wife through two miscarriages, and the couple adopted children instead. On and off camera Jackman is regarded as one of the most pleasant and engaging actors to interview, get autographs from, and work with.
#2 - Johnny Depp
Coming in at number two, Johnny Depp is all class. Not only does he continually thank his fans for their appreciation, but also tries to make any of his appearances on camera a funny and entertaining affair. Johnny Depp is such a nice guy that even his celebrity friends identify him as a genuinely good person. Here are some highlights of his good guy persona.
Notable Nice Guy Stories:
Back in 2010, a 9-year-old girl wrote a letter addressed to Johnny’s famous “Pirates of the Caribbean” character, Captain Jack Sparrow, asking him to help “stage a mutiny” against her teachers. Depp actually read the letter and showed up at the girl’s school, in the complete garb of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp Surprises Fan in Classroom
In the late 1990’s, Depp was working on the film “Sleepy Hollow”. In one of the scenes, he was to ride a one-eye horse, which was to be killed and sent to a glue factory after filming. Upon finding out about this, Deep adopted the horse.
During filming of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, Depp reportedly spent $ 62,000 to buy jackets for all the crew members, because it was raining.
In 2008, Depp recorded a voice message for a 17-year-old British girl who had been in a coma. Her parents asked him to tape the message because he was the girl’s favorite actor, and they hoped playing the message would wake her up.
Perhaps Depp’s most famous good deed was his outspoken defense of three convicted men, who were believed to have committed gruesome murders, but with no physical evidence. The men were sentenced to death row, yet Deep continually stood behind them by appearing on a number of talk shows.
#1 - Keanu Reeves
Keanu has been through some pretty rough stuff in his life. His dad left his mother when he was 3, leading to constant moving and new stepfathers. His girlfriend delivered a stillborn child in 1999, and then she herself died in a car accident in 2001. To top it all off, his sister has battled cancer for a decade, with Keanu constantly supporting her not just financially, but also in person. You’d think that after this turn of events, he would be a pretty bitter guy, but no. The stories of his good nature would fill a long list, but here are some highlights.
Notable Nice Guy Stories:
Keanu Reeves continues to donate to charities, and even gave away over $ 50 million to the special effects and costumes crew of the Matrix trilogy.
Keanu gave a $ 20,000 bonus to a man working on building movie sets for the Matrix. The guy was having financial troubles and couldn’t support his family, of which Keanu heard and decided to help.
Keanu once helped a woman whose car broke down on an LA highway. Unable to get her car started, he called for the vehicle to be towed. He then proceeded to drive the woman all the way to her home, 50 miles from where he himself was heading. To finish it off, he gave the woman his phone number in case she needed any additional help.
These kind of stories sum Keanu up pretty well - a genuinely good person who hasn’t allowed his fame and rough life to stop him from being nice to others. We can only hope that more Hollywood celebrities will follow in his, and so many others' footsteps - to not only strive for fame, but also for becoming a positive role model.

The ones who complain about their fans should keep in mind, there will come a time when no one will know who you are or care if they found out "thats who ? (yawn) wow

I think you forgot Steve Carell, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Robin WIlliams, Ryan gosling, Daniel Radcliffe, Tom Hiddleston, Jon Hamm and even Tom Cruise.
Your list is okay. But I can only agree with Jackman, Hanks and Reeves being in the top 5. Johnny should not be in the top 4 but yes definitely inside top 10.
I'm not judging, just explaining the names you've missed.

I think Justin Timberlake is a humble nice guy...When filming Lone Ranger in NM...Depp would not talk to anyone. I do not see that as being nice.

Celebrities are like the royal family in America because we don't have royal families like many European countries do.

You should treat what you read on the internet the same way you would treat what a stranger tells you on the street. Keanu Reeves gave a woman he didn't know his phone number? Celebrities have unlisted phone numbers to prevent strangers from calling them but a celebrity is going to personally give a stranger his phone number? You can't believe everything you read on the internet about celebrities or anything else. Frankly the only way to know if a celebrity is nice or not is if you know them or have met them. It would be fantastic if fans could find out on the internet but the internet lies all the time. Only celebrities' families, friends and people they work with know if they are nice or not, not the public, all us fans know is what we see when they are in the public eye and that is only a show, behind all that in their private lives we know nothing about them and their private lives are none of our business. Their job is to entertain us, no further than that. There are rumors and lies told about celebrities all the time. Tabloids twist things and make up stories to sell to people. There is one thing us fans do know about ALL celebrities-they are human beings just like everyone else, and they are just as much entitled to a private life as we are.
Jacob Young on November 23, 2013:
I am not calling anyone a liar, but is what you read on here about these celebrities guaranteed to be true? I believed everything I read but then I thought to myself, just because these things are written on here about these celebrities does it mean it's true? I'm not saying anything I read on here is true or not true but you don't know if things written on the internet about celebrities is real or bogus. Can you find out if a celebrity is nice or not by what the internet, magazines, and TV says? When you read on the internet saying celebrities are so nice it makes you happy but the sad truth is you don't know if what you are reading is really true. It may or may not be, but you don't really know.

From accounts I have heard from people who have actually met Oprah is that she is not nice. Not to mention Oprah herself has said she is not nice, she is kind but not nice. She gives a very good description of the difference and compares herself to Gayle.
To be clear no one is saying she is a bad person just that nice is not her thing.

I've actually heard oprah tried to rip off her camera man by not giving him back the pictures licensed under hks name. There was a whole trial and everything

i saw alan rickman in a car once i was staring at him cause i was like unsure then he turns over to my side and waved to me and i was like oh my goodnessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss and now i know it was him cause he was doing a brodway way show that afternoon and he looked like exactly like him, i think he should be on this list cause he seems like a really nice person
HeadlessHorseman on August 14, 2012:
The problem with saying someone is nice or not nice depends on how you see someone, or should I say when you see someone. Let's say Vin Diesel is a nice guy(not that I am judging him) and one day after filming long hours and in need of some rest at home, you spot him in the street on the way to his car. You ask him for his autograph and picture. He decides not to take a photo with you, but signs your shirt and hits the road after saying to your face "no photos". Would you say his nice or not nice? Celebs are human like everyone else on this earth. Some days we can be nice and some days we can be rude. Does that define who we really are?

Here is a guy who became a celebrity from being nice. He saves lives for a living-- cardiologist Dr. Oz. Oprah had her whole staff become vegan for a month. Dr. Oz paid for all of his staff to learn Transcendental Meditation that Oprah also does.

Several months ago I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Hugh Jackman on WWE Monday Night Raw. Needless to say he has been my very favorite celebrity to work with! He is a genuine, down to earth guy. Just an absolute sweetheart. Having worked for WWE for quite some time, I have met a lot of celebrities and the nicest are: Hugh Jackman, Snoop Dog, Mickey Rourke, Mccullay Culkin, as well as the wrestlers John Cena (huge sweetheart!) Chris Jericho, and many more. There are a lot of celebrity a-holes out there who spoil it, but the ones who I listed are the ones who truly make it great to meet them :)
