Country Music Artist Gary Allan and My Apparent Obsession ~ Humor Intended

Theresa shows her humorous side here. She is one who loves to laugh at herself. She tries to not take herself too seriously.

Gary Allan, a country music artist from Bakersfield, California, who is a bit intense, at Cowboys in Kennesaw, GA. I was so close! hehehe

Gary Allan, a country music artist from Bakersfield, California, who is a bit intense, at Cowboys in Kennesaw, GA. I was so close! hehehe

I can Laugh About It now; However, the Madness all Started back in 2001 . . .

Have you ever been obsessed without realizing it at the time? I have been reflecting back on a time when I may have been just a tad bit overzealous when it came to this particular music artist, and laughing at myself. Laughing is always a healthy thing to do, especially at oneself!

To answer my own question, I believe I have!

For over 40-something years, I loved listening to rock-n-roll from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Actually, I love all genre of music, as my Dad listened to a variety of music, some from even the 50s and earlier.

Anyway, one day while driving in my car as usual, listening to those classic rock songs I love so much, it just hit me, I was ready for a change. I have heard all of these songs before probably over hundreds of thousands of times, over and over. I knew every word and every song, and I love them all, but still I was searching for something new and different.

So, I decided to change the radio station, and came across a voice and song that just went straight to my head. It wasn't until I saw the video of that song on CMC (Country Music Channel), then I was hooked in the worst way! I never really listened to country music before that time, but I liked country music. I guess one could say that I had preferred listening to other music.

The following video from back in 2001, is what got it all started for me and my obsession with Gary Allan, a country music artist from Bakersfield, California.

As each Day Passed, It Was Getting Worse ...

Of course, once I saw this video, I would have CMT on all day long on the weekends or on any day I was off from work, just waiting for that particular video. Then I would blast it so loud. If I just happened to be in the back of the house and heard it come on, I would just start running so very fast, so as to not miss one second of that video! .

My poor husband did not know what to think. Especially, after I became a member of Gary Allan's Fan Club. Oh, I was surely in heaven then. I would receive "The Wave Report" in the mail (yes, they mailed it back then), which contained all kinds of great news, upcoming events, great on-the-road tales, photos, just anything and everything an obsessed person needed to satisfy one's obsession. It was great!

Then I went to the local store that sold country attire. I bought a hat, belt and cowboy/girl boots! Woo hoo, now I was ready to further my obsession properly. I even dyed my hair a brighter blond! Yikes!!! Who is this person?

Just staying focused on my obsession and not on me. It is always good to laugh at oneself in life.

A Great Hub by Mollymeadows on Kennesaw, Georgia

Was I Having a Mid-Life Crisis?

Then, I would drag my husband to various concerts across state lines into Georgia, but he did not seem to mind, as it was an adventure. We went to one concert in Macon, Georgia, at The Whiskey River. Then off to Cowboys in the historic town of Kennesaw, Georgia, but do you think I was even interested in seeing the historic sights. (Hi fellow hubber and friend mollymeadows - see link below) Oh, no, I was there to see my obsession! Another time, we traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, and saw Gary Allan perform with a great line-up of other popular country music artists at the time.

After having driven by myself to Mobile, Alabama, just to see Gary Allan perform at Bay Fest, I began to think that I may have a tad bit of a problem. Ohhh, but it was great. However, no one intervened to help me with my obsession madness!

Funny, how mollymeadows does not mention "Cowboys" in her lovely hub about Kennesaw, Georgia.

Gary Allan was playing at Bay Fest in Mobile, Alabama, and so I had no choice but to drive down there to see him, of course!

Gary Allan was playing at Bay Fest in Mobile, Alabama, and so I had no choice but to drive down there to see him, of course!

When Gary Allan started out, of course, he played in small clubs and the like, so we saw it ALL. Then, when he was more well known, he played in Philips Arena in Atlanta, with a great line-up of all the country music stars of the day.

Then one Day I Turned the Channel on the Radio

A couple of years had passed since my obsession began, and then one day I happened to change the channel on the radio. To my surprise, I really enjoyed listening to what I was hearing. It was Contemporary Christian radio. I was hooked. I love all the praise and worship songs. I am glad my new and true One and Only is my Lord and Savior. He literally saved me from myself!

Although, I have always known the Lord, I had gotten off track just a tad and went a little overboard, from just being a fan to literally being obsessed, I think?

I still keep my little treasure box (really nice black silk one) full of mementos from my obsession days of Gary Allan hidden up in the top of my closet, along with my hat, belt and cowboy/girl boots.

My obsession box filled with Gary Allan memories.

My obsession box filled with Gary Allan memories.

I Thought I Had Forgotten all About Him Until . . .

I thought I had forgotten about my obsession from many years ago, until one of my sisters (my middle sister), came up from Mobile just recently and happened to mention this new song, who she said she just loves the artist to death. She said she just cannot get enough of that particular song. She played it for me, and that familiar voice came back to me. She told me who it was, and sure enough, it was my former obsession, Gary Allan!

I told my sister that I could not believe she loved Gary Allan too, and then I went on to explain my obsession with him back in 2001 and a couple of years following. I could not believe that out of all the country music artists, we both love the same artist.

Out of curiosity, we looked up on YouTube the latest video of that song my sister loves by Gary Allan, and whoa, I believe he has gotten even better and is even more appealing than back in 2001 and 2002! Please pray for me!!!

I pulled out my special black box of just Gary Allan memorabilia to show my sister. We still were in disbelief that we both love the exact same artist and did not know it. Well, she just now is hearing of him, and way back when I was obsessed with him, she lived/lives in Mobile, a couple of hundred miles away from where I live.

This new video and song of Gary Allan's has special meaning to my sister right now in her life, so that is why the song is near and dear to her. I told her that we may have to sign up for new memberships (as I am sure mine is outdated by now) and go see him in Biloxi in June. She is all for that, if we can! After watching Gary's latest video, I believe I may be hooked again!

OH NO, please pray for me! No, no, no, I am okay----I think. hehehe

I just LOVE songs about rain and going through storms . . .

Have You ever Been Obsessed?

Do you believe that you may have been obsessed with someone or something before or now in your life? If so, and if you care to share, please do so in your comments.

I still love many genre of music and many artists, but with this particular artist, I truly believe I was obsessed at the time.

Since then, once I changed the music channel and came across Contemporary Christian music, which I love, as I love to sing praises to my King! He is the One, the Lord over my life these days, as he saved me from myself. Praise Him!

I still listen to and love all types of genre of music, but I am no longer obsessed, as I have been set free to just be a normal fan of music, in the good sense. So . . . "I'm right where I need to be!"

Romans 5:1

"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God . . ."

Being Thankful . . .

I am so thankful, especially in my case, that His mercies are new each and every morning!

Hi Lovely Paula! I’ve truly missed you too and all of my HubPages’ Family. I’m officially retired from my job as of February 1st this year, so maybe I can find the time to write again in between traveling and spending more time with my precious grandchildren.

HEY!!! Hello Pretty Lady! I've missed you, Theresa! Paula

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 06, 2019:

Hi Cin!

Thank you for reading of my obsession of back in the day. Gary is indeed easy on the eyes, and truly has that sexy voice to boot. We are in total agreement.

Cin on February 06, 2019:

I feel in love with his voice when I heard Smoke Rings in the Dark, but when I saw the video for Right Where I need to Be my toes curled when I saw those blue eyes. And still today he is my favorite country singer. He just keeps getting hotter with age.

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on July 18, 2018:

Oh my goodness, Penny! That is too funny ... you are truly like me with the obsession of Gary hahaha ... thank you for reading and sharing here: It’s interesting your obsession began similarly to mine with our music choices over the years and later in life hahaha ... I can’t get over the similarities.

Good to know this article popped up when you Googled Gary.

A lot of people outside of HubPages don’t realize they can comment on the articles and think they have to be a member. So glad you’ve taken the time to leave a great comment, which brings a big smile to my face.

He’s truly an “Alright Guy” ...

penny on July 17, 2018:

Your story is too funny! As I was reading it, which by the way I happen to run across after googling "Gary Allan", it sounded exactly like a story I could of written myself. From the Christin music to the box of memorabilia. The only thing that didn't fit my story was the sister part. My sisters have gone with me to see him but only once. That was enough for them. I too started listening to Gary Allan about 15 years ago. Although I still listen to a Christian station, I keep up to date with all of Gary's new releases and LOVE them!! My friends and family think I'm absolutely crazy and have heard me say "ok, this is the last concert I'm going to" for the last time. lol I don't know what it is about him...…..but for me to have my first "celeb crush" in my late 40's is pretty crazy and has gone a bit too far!! lol

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on June 04, 2018:

Hi Paula! So great to see you too, lovely lady and fellow hugger ... hahaha

I appreciate you taking time to read all about my obsession ... uh, uh, I mean my being such a huge fan of Gary Allan.

I’ve gone “gaga” over others in my lifetime but never to this degree of insanity.

Yes, I believe the line is long ...

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on June 04, 2018:

Hi Linda, I see I needed to fix that first video!

Got it.

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on June 04, 2018:

Yes, Linda ... “Yum!” sums him up pretty good.

Thanks for reading my yummy obsession!

Suzie from Carson City on June 01, 2018:

Theresa....First of all, it's great to see you, sweet lady! You may have been obsessed but perhaps just an ardent fan! And who could blame you?? Gary is quite the C&W artist and cute as can be!

I have to admit to being a little bit over-the-top about an entertainer/celebrity, a time or two in my life. Even now as a Great Granny, I can still appreciate a stud muffin with a guitar!! LOL.

Thank you for the intro to Gary. I'm looking for the line to take a number!! I'm a hugger too! Peace, Paula

Linda Bilyeu from Orlando, FL on May 31, 2018:

Yum! :)

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on October 20, 2015:

Hi Dear Shyron,

I'm so glad you enjoyed my attempt at a bit of humor by laughing at myself during the time I was obviously obsessed with this artist. I'm not writing about being a normal fan of a particular artist, but actually just thinking of nothing but him and watching his videos over and over ...

I grew up listening to Rock too and still love it, but I had listened to it for 40 years and one day I just changed the radio station and it was all over with ... I rarely listen much to Country music radio anymore, except I love to watch the CMA awards. I am back to listening to my CDs of a variety of music from Rock to Contemporary Christian and so on.

Oh, I do love Dolly and my new favorite young female artist, Carrie Underwood. I love to hear her sing, "How Great Thou Art". Except here in this hub, I am not writing of being a fan of great artists but being obsessed with a male artist ...

Peace and blessings always

Shyron E Shenko from Texas on October 20, 2015:

I so very much enjoyed this, it reminds me of me, I did not have just one single person that I love, well Lynn Anderson held a special place in my heart and still does, I love all music but mostly Country and Rock.

But you can have the best of your faith and country music all rolled into one, just listen to one of my favorites "Hello God" by Dolly Parton.

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on May 03, 2015:

Hi Linda,

Haha ...yes, no obsession here going on at all ...That's what it was, a new adventure, and boy was it an fun adventure.

Wow, I did not know about his third wife, so sad. He is truly humble and does put his family first, which there is a price when it comes to the music scene for sure.

His just has such a unique voice, like no other, plus easy on the eyes. I have always listened to country growing up as my dad loved all genre of music, like Johnny Cash and such, so I have been exposed to a good variety.

Well, I need to get that CD too, but I am afraid to start listening to him again for ... Hee hee

Of course there is no obsession with you, Linda! LOL

Oh, that is a great idea about his name in the title here, Duh on my part. Hahaha I hope he would like it if he saw it. I will do that. I will have to take another look at your obsession hubs, I mean your music lover's hubs and see how you do the titles.

Thank you for the fun visit this day.

Linda Bilyeu from Orlando, FL on May 03, 2015:

Just a add Gary Allan's name to your title, I bet he would enjoy reading this tribute if it comes up on Google! :)

Linda Bilyeu from Orlando, FL on May 03, 2015:

Fun! I do not sense an obsession at all. Haha! I sense a discovery of a new adventure, which happened to be country music courtesy of Gary Allan. He truly gets better with age, not just his looks! His music too. Gary remains a humble guy who puts family first, even if it cost him super stardom, who cares...the man has talent! After his 3rd wife took her life, his music got a bit dark, writing about the pain and agony he endured...his best songs to date came from his CD, Tough All Over. I have been a country music fan for about 20 years, courtesy of Tim obsession there. Haha!

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on October 06, 2014:

LOL, yes, Nell, for sure ... I am up for it! I am past due on a really good obsession LOL. It would be soooo much fun. Life is short, and we must make fun times happen when we can. My hubby may be too afraid to relive another obsession with me dragging him over state lines LOL, so he will be fine with us having a "just girls" night out ... hee hee

Nell Rose from England on October 06, 2014:

Now thats a thought! lol! maybe we should all get an obsession again, I mean, how fun is that? LOL!

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on October 04, 2014:

LOL Nell!!! I am laughing so hard now too. It is great to laugh at ourselves and, shoot, I tend to get one of these obsessions more than I care to admit hahaha. So, glad you enjoyed reading this true story of my hilarious obsession.

Oh, now I am going to have to look up Robconventgarden too ... and I am not laughing because I truly understand ... hee hee more than you know. Woo hoo, I will check his concert schedule out and maybe you can fly over sometime! LOL

I have plenty more of these stories, as you do too, with your wonderful Go Go Girl days you have shared. I think it is great to share about the wacky and fun times in our lives, as I think many can relate and it truly makes for interesting and fun reading, as opposed to the same ole' boring stuff.

I guess I can open up a bit more and share some really good ones from when I was very young, as you did.

Thank you for the laughs this night and great reading your hubs of late too.

I appreciate you sharing about my true obsession everywhere LOL. I hope it doesn't start an epidemic.

Nell Rose from England on October 04, 2014:

Oh Faith, I was crying with laughter! especially when you said you went out and bought the boots the hat and dyed your hair! LOLOLO! so darn funny! thanks so much for the laugh, I have to share this everywhere! its hilarious! the funny thing is, don't tell anybody, but I am getting that way too at the moment! Haha! its a guy called 'Robconventgarden' on facebook, he is a busker there and the second I heard him I went bananas for his music! lol! I even,....please don't laugh...I even went onto the radio show web page when he was on playing the other night, thursday this week, and we could click on the live web cam and watch him play! and of course there were comment boxes underneath where we could comment directly to the dj as he was speaking to Rob! LOLOLO! oh dear, i caught your obsession! No I am not going up to london to see him play....he has actually been signed up this week with a major record company over there in the States, so I bet you get to see him first! lol!

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 04, 2014:

Oh, thank you so much, Anna! It was intended to be funny, so thankfully it came off that way. I wrote a parody once and it was well-received, but I kind of felt funny for the other person.

I am so glad you dug this one up and thought it brilliant and it is your favorite of mine! Wow, thank you so much. My children think I am hilarious LOL I used to tell them that I was going to go on the road and ... instead of doing "stand-up" ... I wanted to do "sit-down" as I was so tired. LOL That is not good to laugh at my own jokes!

Maybe I will try more humor.

Have a great day and thank you for putting a smile on my face. It had taken me several days to hit the publish button hehehe

I don't think you were obsessed you were just being a good fan. This was really funny and interesting. You wrote it brilliantly, I have never managed to write anything funny, ever. Well not that I actually intended to be funny! :)

I had a huge crush on Michael Munroe back in the nineties. He was so pretty! I still like his music but have overcome my devotion. :)

This is my favourite hub of yours I have read. You have a naturally witty and comfortable narrative style.

This was very cute. I used to be obsessed with country music star Gary Morris back in the day. I never got as close as you did to your obsession, however. Lucky! I have a male friend in Nashville where I went to college who has always been able to weasel his way backstage into any country concert, including at the Grand Old Opry.

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on June 25, 2013:

Hi AliciaC,

Thanks so much for visiting my former obsession here! he he he

I am glad you enjoyed this hub and thought it funny, as this was my attempt at humor. Something about him must have struck a chord with me back then, and now with my sister. His latest video now has well over 4,000,000 views, so he is doing well.

My sister and I overheard someone talking about him at the gym and that he would be at the Crawfish Boil in a city nearby, and so we went in April. It was fun to go with my sister. It was an outdoor music festival with other bands, etc. But, of course, we just only came to see Gary! he he

I believe my obsession has not reared its ugly head again this time around though : )

I guess I need to scan that ticket and add it to the collection too.

And you are always right in your blessed introduction: the answer indeed is love. Especially when someone as special as you is sharing your love with us and spreading it all over hubpages . God bless you.

And yes this fabulous hub story of your life as well made me think of my love with country and western (preferably the older stuff from the 40's , 50's , 60's 70's ..... although I love the music of Dwight Yokum and Dale Watson and the Mavericks to name just a few but my roots go back to the Carter Family and Jimmie Rodgers and Hank Williams Sr and Roy Acuff ....

Quite a hub postcard of memories here though and I am obsessed with music in general and my favorite Elvis is his gospel music and I adore black gospel music because in its essence it's the roots of rock and roll.

My sister just told me that, now Gary Allan's latest hit song, "Every Storm Runs Out of Rain," now has over 3,764,000 +++ views on YouTube! So, it seems I am, I mean, was, not the only one among the almost four million others you now are "fans" of his. LOL

I appreciate you joining in and being a good sport.

Have a lovely evening dear teaches.

Hugs, Faith Reaper

Dianna Mendez on March 07, 2013:

I can relate to your story, Faith. I had a liking for Davey Jones of the Monkees. Looking back, I think it is so hilarious that I had such an obsession. Today, like you, I prefer my Gospel music which ranges from rock to classical to jazz. Enjoyed your post!

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on March 07, 2013:

LOL, Suzette!

Thanks for visiting my past "healthy" obsession. LOL It is all in fun no doubt! His music is great to me with that unique voice. My sister just told me yesterday that his lastest video has over three million views already, so there must be a lot of others with a continued "healthy" obsession. LOL

This hub is written for the intent of humor, so I am glad you found it to be so, whew!!! LOL

I appreciate your visit as always, and hope your day is lovely,

Fatih Reaper

Suzette Walker from Taos, NM on March 07, 2013:

Faith: This is hysterical. I have seen worse obsessions! I can see why you like him - he is cute and his music is very good. I bet this was fun also. I see nothing wrong with a "healthy" obsession!

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on March 05, 2013:

Hi ignugent,

Thanks for stopping by to read of my past obsession, hehehe. I do enjoy a lot of his songs, but not all. His latest hit is good to me, the one my sister told me about . . .

I appreciate the visit.

God bless, Faith Reaper

ignugent17 on March 05, 2013:

It is fun to read Faith. I am sure you enjoy his songs.

Have a great day!

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on March 05, 2013:

Hi CrisSP,

Yes, I really never listened to country music before and really not now even, but during that small time period, I believe I was just a tad bit over zealous about this one particular country artist. LOL I really love all genre of music, from jazz, blues, rock, contemporary christian and still a little country now and then.

I can laugh about it now, LOL. Gary is pretty awesome, and now my sister re-introduced me to him, as I thought he had gone away. Oh No!!! LOL Kidding . . .

Thanks for enjoying the hub, and the laughs, as it is my intention for it to be humorous and laughing at myself back then. It is good to confess too.

Hugs and love, Faith Reaper

CrisSp from Sky Is The Limit Adventure on March 05, 2013:

Oh, what a very entertaining hub! I'm not that big on country songs but I remember listening (and liking) Kenny Rogers' country music (with Dolly Parton) and then recently liking Keith Urban (I think he's hot mama Faith. Lol!). Well, I enjoyed reading this and sorry, I was laughing at your crazy obsession including owning some cowboys stuff. Ha..ha...ha..Faith! You are so cute!

Thanks for the fun read and for introducing me to Gary Allan.

Happiness always!

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on March 05, 2013:

Hi LaThing,

So glad you came to visit the witnessing of my past obsession. LOL

You can go to his website or YouTube an watch all of his videos . . . no, no no, better not as, you know . . . LOL Kidding He is a really different kind of country music star, and I had no clue he has a new CD out until my sister brought it up. His voice is what gets me.

I think I was just an over zealous fan at the time. He is really talented though, seriously.

I am sure if one were truly obsessed in the true sense of the word, it would not be good at all!!!

I am glad you enjoyed reading this, and thank you for the vote up

Hugs and love, Faith Reaper

LaThing from From a World Within, USA on March 05, 2013:

Oh, this is so cute, Faith! I don't know Gary Allen, but I can understand your obsession, LOL...... THANK GOD, I never had an obsession, I would go crazy! I have a phobia of becoming obsessed with someone and than ruining my life, LOL, LOL.....

Nice hub, really enjoyed reading it! Voting up and everything.....

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on March 04, 2013:

Hi Sue,

Yes, he kind of does his own thing, but he was very popular back in 2001 and 2002, and then after I had gotten over my obsession, I don't know what happened to him. However, he has a hit this day, and that is the last video on here that my sister told me about, and now . . . here I go again . . . LOL Kidding

I appreciate the visit.

Blessings, Faith Reaper

Sueswan on March 04, 2013:

Hi Faith,

I never have heard of Gary Allan until I read your hub. I just finished listening to his video , "Best I ever had." I can see why you like him.

When it came to country music stars, I went through a period of listening to Clint Black. Never did see him in concert though.

Thank you for sharing your obsession with us. Loved it.

Voted up across the board and sharing.

Hi Mary (Till),

So glad for your visit here to witness my obsession of the past! Oh, I really love Elvis. My mother once saw Elvis in Walter Reid Hospital in Washington, where my dad happened to be after contracting Malaria in the war. She was just as calm as can be, but if I were there, I don't know. LOL Elvis happened to be there too with Malaria.

Guess we all can be hooked on a certain music artist at some point in our lives. They are many more for me too of a different genre of music, but this one was pretty bad in my case. LOL

I wish you were in the South too! That would be great fun.

Thank you for reading and leaving a great comment as always, and I do feel much better now.

I appreciate the vote up.

God bless. In His Love, Faith Reaper

Mary Craig from New York on March 04, 2013:

OH sweet girl you are far from alone, why do you think they have fan clubs and sell memorabilia? I was a die hard Elvis fan (I'm a tad older than you) but back in the day there was a country singer, Marvin Rainwater...for me to go to a concert back then was a big thing...I did and I was hooked, I played his music over and over. Guess we all have our obsessions from time to time but the Lord is our constant and I think He smiles at us as we act like children!

Wish I was down south so I could join you girls in June! Looking forward to some great hubs from that trip. Hope you have a fabulous time.

Voted up, funny, and interesting.

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on March 01, 2013:

Dearest Maria,

Thank you so much for your visit today, and I am so glad to know I am not alone in such things (I feel better now). LOL Oh, I love, love, love Chris DAUGHTRY too, and so many more, and could go on and on, but I won't!!! Oh, you can find him (Gary) everywhere of course . . . on Twitter, YouTube and his Facebook page, well, really just anywhere you may roam in cyberspace. LOL

I do love his voice, and I kind of wish that I had not found out about his latest video/song . . . just because of . . . oops, here I go again. hahaha Kidding.

I appreciate you and the vote up. Have a wonderful weekend!

Hugs and love, Faith Reaper

Never change and now I intend to look much more into your country cutie...what a voice! Voted UP and ABI. Love, Maria

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on March 01, 2013:

Hi PS,

Thanks for witnessing my confession as to a past obsession. LOL I thought I would mix things up a bit, and relate how we can truly get our eyes off what is really important in life. However, it is good to enjoy life too, but just don't go overboard. LOL

When certain habits start to take over, then you may have a problem. I love music of all kinds, which is healthy, but not to constantly be focused on one artist as I was way back then.

Thanks for reading and sending Angels my way. I am sending Angels back to you too as always, and have a blessed day.

God bless, Faith Reaper

Patricia Scott from North Central Florida on March 01, 2013:

Sending you many Angels this morninng :) ps

Hi Vickiw,

LOL, thanks for the fun comments! We would get into big trouble trying to get a lock of hair. LOL I believe I am over my past obsession of over ten years ago, thank goodness, and can now just be a normal fan, I hope?

It is good to confess about such things and look back and laugh at oneself.

Maybe there will be a good deal on a flight and you can join us too. I am reminded of that sign in "The Wizard of Oz" . . . "I'd Turn Back If I Were You" hahaha.

Have a lovely night, and I appreciate you stopping by to visit me and my former obsession.

I am now staying focused on keeping my eyes looking up to the One and truly Divine Love above. Plus, my husband of 34 years is a keeper, obviously.

Hugs, Faith Reaper

Vickiw on February 28, 2013:

No fair!!! Way up here in Canada! Can't join you girls on your date. Maybe you could bring back a small memento , maybe a lock of hair or something? . . . I thought it was so lovely that you can have such deep feelings for your love of the moment! I can't imagine anything more fun than you girls out on a date together. Yes, you would need a chaperone.

Great Hub, lighthearted and full of music, just what we need!

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 28, 2013:

Hi Mh,

Noooo, surely I wasn't. hehehe

I appreciate your kind words and taking the time to read, as well as for especially understanding that surely I was just a "normal" fan of the music!

Thanks for the visit here.

Great job on this. Bless you

Hi Rosemary,

Thanks for visiting here with my past obsession! LOL I am glad it made you smile. Smiles are good. Yes, I hope that it was a healthy obsession, but I'm not too sure. LOL I really love all music just about, which always makes me smile. I could not imagine life without music.

Have a lovely evening dear Rosemary.

What a fun hub Faith, just what I needed today, a burst of happiness energy. A healthy fun obsession and one most of go through when something we really like pops up. I too love CW

Thank you for the smiles.

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 27, 2013:

Hi Marlene (lovedoctor),

I am so glad you enjoyed this hub. I needed to laugh at myself, as it is always good to do so in looking back and then thinking, what in the world! LOL I feel better knowing others have had some sort of obsession or experience such as I had. I hope my past obsession is not flowing over to Debbie, as I believe she is hooked already now. LOL

Oh, I have tons of these types of stories (I need to write about them and call them my series in humility), which all have led up to the person I am today, thank goodness, and it really was all innocent and just good fun. As kj put it, music is soothing to one's soul, no matter what genre of music, as it depends on what one is needing at the time.

Oh, I should have mentioned in my hub that I am a great "woo hoo'er" from my rock concerts days, well, actually, it was just "woo." I may be the best around at that. hahaha

I wanted to change things up a bit here, and let everyone see another side of me, the real deal side of back then. LOL

I appreciate you and the vote up!

Hope you are having a lovely day in Florida.

Hugs, Faith Reaper

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 27, 2013:

LOL Debbie, you are selling it, girlfriend, and have your bags packed and ready to go!!! is where to get tickets. You are too cute! It would be great fun no doubt----do we need a chaperone! LOL

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 27, 2013:

Hi kj,

Wow, what an awesome and lovely comment you have left here this day my dear friend!!! You're right, I was in no way obsessed at all!!!

Music is all that for sure, and you put it so very eloquently, as only you can! You are so very kind in your comments here to me and you have a precious heart of love to others. You are also very wise my dear!

I love all genre of music, i.e., blues, jazz (you name it), and it does all depend on what I am needing to listen to for that soothing and healing of one's soul. If there was a button to push for amazingly beautiful comment, I would!

I appreciate you so much. Have a lovely day too.

I can call Leslie.. Let's make a date..

girls night out..

We can all wear our cowgirls hats.. now you know we all have one.. lol

lovedoctor926 on February 27, 2013:

Faith, you're so funny! I really enjoyed this hub especially the part where you mentioned that you went to the local store that sold country attire. I bought a hat, belt and cowboy/girl boots! Woo hoo, now I was ready to further my obsession properly. I even dyed my hair a brighter blond! Yikes!!! Who is this person?" LOL... I feel so much better now! Whether we want to admit it or not, I think the majority of us have some type of obsession. I really enjoyed this and I voted up awesome & funny!

kjforce from Florida on February 27, 2013:

Faith Reaper..the definition of " obsession " is an idea, thought, emotion that occupies the mind continually...and the gift of music comes from above and in various genres..

consequently you were in need of the " voice" of Country..which are stories of Life..

Music has always soothed the soul/spirit..regardless of the genre..Kudos on an extremely interesting personal experience..great photos too...enjoy the day

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 27, 2013:

Okay, Debbie, I just clicked on Gary Allan's Official site above, and it had his schedule of performance dates. The one in Biloxi, MS is on June 1st. You can go to the link above in my hub too, as far as fan club membership, if one wants to be able to go and meet and greet! LOL

Hugs, Faith Reaper

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 27, 2013:

Okay, will do . . . I will confirm for sure about the dates!

Deborah Brooks Langford from Brownsville,TX on February 27, 2013:

Okay faith give us dates and links. we can make plans.

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 27, 2013:

Hi xstatic, and I am so ecstatic you have shown up to view and read of my shameful obession of the past! LOL I am laughing now, but it was a pretty bad obsession to say the least. I am healthy-minded now enough to enjoy music artists in the normal sense of how one should ---I pray!

Well, after seeing his latest video and hearing all of his new songs on his latest CD, I am praying so very hard that I do not backslide into my old ways. HAHAHA Just kidding, I think?

No, I will keep my eyes looking up for strength in my weakness. We all do have those weaknesses, as we are human.

I think it is healthy to laugh at oneself and be real about our different phases in life we all go through no doubt! Hmmm, maybe I will do a series on humility . . . now that is an idea, as I am full of all sorts of stories of my former self. It is good to confess.

I appreciate your great comments, which are also so very kind indeed. You're the best!

Hugs (without the tummy pat, lol), Faith Reaper

Jim Higgins from Eugene, Oregon on February 27, 2013:

Really a funny (and confessional) hub Faith Reaper, and delightful too.

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 27, 2013:

Okay, it's a date. Oh, that would be out of this world fun no doubt!!! The dynamic trio and then me. LOL It would be a great girl's night out, as we all need that too. It is healthy to get out every now and again. As they say in the South, that would be a "hoot!" The men would understand, but they are welcome too. You should check out his latest CD, as it is really amazing. Or just go to YouTube, it's all there! You would love all of his songs.

I must renew my fan club membership so we can, you know, meet & greet, and I can do my hugging thing with the pat on the tummy habit of mine! LOL

Deborah Brooks Langford from Brownsville,TX on February 27, 2013:

Faith lets do it. I wil tell love doctor. And leslie.. it's a date

Faith Reaper (author) from southern USA on February 27, 2013:

Hi my sweet southern friend, Jackie,

I believe we may be! LOL Yes, I went berserk over many artists, rock and otherwise, growing up throughout my lifetime, but not as berserk as with Gary Allan. LOL I loved Alan Jackson too until . . ., as you say. Oh, I love so many Contemporary Christian artists right now, and have many of their songs/videos in my hubs here. Yes, Love Song is great, and that song is amazing. Thanks for the reminder about Love Song. Yes, AJ's gospel songs are really beautiful. I understand about those beautiful blue eyes of BJ Thomas too ----oops on my part too. LOL

I appreciate the fun comments here. It is funny how we go through our phases.

Hugs, Faith Reaper

Jackie Lynnley from the beautiful south on February 27, 2013:

Wow, we may be twins! lol No, really I love the old rock, I went berserk over Alan Jackson for many years (until he two timed his wife, even though I didn't like her). I guess we go through changes sister, let's just hope we are done! In contemporary Christian music the ones I really loved was Love Song and they had a song by that name most beautiful song I ever heard but I can only find them old now. Still you are right we can find good things in the things we should be doing. Actually AJ does some very beautiful gospel song and BJ Thomas does with the beautiful blue bad.

Great write!

Hi Debbie,

IT'S A DATE!!! Clear your calendar for June in Biloxi! LOL Invite more girlfriends, and my sister and I will join you.

Thanks so much for joining in the fun here, and maybe more fun in June too. God surely does a fine job on His creations, as He has done here with Gary no doubt, with his gift of music! And He always wants His children to be joyful concerning His creations in a healthy way. I believe I will enjoy seeing Gary Allan once again, but in the normal fan sense and not in the obsession sense. LOL

Girlfriends on an adventure of fun no doubt!

Thanks so much for the great comments sweet friend.
