Movie: The perfect date

Genre: Romantic comedy

Cast: Noah Centineo, Laura Marano, Odiseas Georgiadis & Camila Mendes

Netflix is always coming up with new original movies called Netflix originals. One of their latest movies is The perfect date. I love all sorts of movies but I do have a weakness for romcoms. Besides that, I think that Noah Centino is a great actor so I was excited to see this one.

Brooks Rattigan is an honest hardworking guy. He is not popular but he doesn’t have to be as he has his best friend Murph. Together they work at a sandwich place. Brooks saves the money that he earns to finance his prospective study as his dream is to study at Yale. Unfortunately, he doesn’t make a lot of money so he needs a new job. When he goes on a date with Celia Lieberman, he finds out that he can make a lot of money by going on more dates. So, he goes on a lot of dates trying to make as much money as possible. During these dates, he falls in love but doesn't go about it in the right way. And he neglects his friendship with Murph. Fortunately, in the end, he gets his priorities straight and gets his life back on track.

Honestly, all the actors and actresses did a great job. Especially Laura Marano and Noah Centineo. Laura really showed the rebellious yet vulnerable side of Celia Lieberman.

When it comes to Noah’s acting, I might be a bit biased though. I first saw him in The Fosters. He entered the show during season 2. And now he is popping up in multiple Netflix originals. So far, he delivered in all of them so I had great hopes for The perfect date. And he didn’t disappoint me as he once again proved to be a great actor.

The intro of the movie is great. Brooks is writing his college essay and later on reads it out loud. The heroes and their sidekicks that he mentions are in fact some of the greatest. It gives you a good sense of who he is and where the movie is going. Another thing that I really liked about the movie is that it really goes in on certain details of Brooks’ life. One of them is the scene where Murph explains to Celia that Brooks mother left. He also explains why she left and talks about her new life. A lot of movies only tell that the parent left and that's it. I also liked that the movie was pretty realistic. Sure he goes on a lot of dates and gets well paid but he didn't become rich overnight. And that's nice to see. When the movie was coming towards the end you could easily guess what was going to happen. And a predictable end is always a bit disappointing.

The movie has some great reminders for all. Mostly about friendships, love, and goals. Basically, the standard things but it's always nice to be reminded of them. To avoid spoilers, I will not go into details but if you watch the movie you will definitely catch all of the reminders.

If you like action or want to be surprised than this movie is not for you. This movie is a feelgood movie for preteens and teens to drool over the lead character. If you’re older than drooling over a young guy may not be so appropriate but you might still like the movie. It really is a fun and lighthearted movie for all to enjoy. Of course, you should not be opposed to watching a remotely predictable movie.

The movie is a cute and simple movie to watch if you want to relax. You will not learn anything new from it and you’ll probably only watch it once. It’s definitely not a must-see but I will recommend you to watch it if you don’t have anything else to do.

My rating:

3 out of 5
