Mortal Kombat (2021) - Rated R - Directed by Simon McQuoid
Plot Summary from (IMDB): MMA fighter Cole Young seeks out Earth's greatest champions in order to stand against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe.
Review: Unlike the fighting scenes, the movie overall is not flawless. The movie had a great start! The first 10 minutes were full of action, character establishment, and plot. However, the more you watch the less interesting it becomes. Sure, all the fighting scenes were mostly well-executed, with fun references to the games, and coupled with a great soundtrack. But there was no real plot to the movie nor a character worth rooting for.
All the actors did a decent job, but Josh Lawson (Kano) stood out. The movie did not build any character in any way as a character to associate with or support. At best, you will know the "good guys" and "bad guys" that's it. But there is nothing to engage with or look forward to.
The movie was fun to watch. Much better than Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997) but if I had to choose, I will watch Mortal Kombat (1995).
