'Married at First Sight' Season 8 Has Some 'Firsts'

Margaret Minnicks has been an online writer for many years. She writes about various topics including celebrities and entertainment.

Married at First Sight returned on Lifetime on New Year's night, January 1, 2019. Season 8 might be the biggest season yet. That's because there will be much more to see from four Philadelphian couples instead of the usual three that have been on the reality show in other cities.

Viewers will get the chance to see what happens with eight people rather than only six that have been in the series on the last seven seasons.

Why Four Couples?

It was not the initial intent to have four couples. When the experts were voting on their choices for the matches, psychologist Dr. Jessica Griffin and marriage counselor Pastor Calvin Roberson could not agree on who the third couple would be. Therefore, sociologist Dr. Pepper Schwartz suggested that they should choose both couples who were considered. All three experts agreed.

Fans of the Married at First Sight are reporting that that love the dynamics of seeing four couples. Even though there are four couples this season, it is not certain that there will be that many couples in upcoming seasons.

Combined Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

For the first time, the grooms met the other grooms and the brides met the other others before their weddings. The engaged people met and celebrated in separate parties before knowing who they would marry.

Both parties turned out to be quite raunchy. The men were surprised with women wearing skimpy outfits. They danced and gave the men lap dances.

The women received the same treatment from the strippers who appeared at their party. The brides joined in the dances with the men. At other times, the men gyrated in front of the women as they sat in chairs.

AJ Vollmoeller, a 37-year-old New York native, married Stephanie Sersen, a 35-year-old woman who says she will be devastated if the marriage doesn't work out.

AJ is the President and CEO of Future Force Talent Connection. He said he has spent the last six years building his staffing and recruiting company. Now he is ready to find love and share his success with a partner.

Stephanie has been looking for a man who can travel with her before settling down and starting a family. She might have met her match since AJ is his own boss who can take off and go with her on her travels.

Will and Jasmine

Will Guess and Jasmine McGriff

Will Guess is 37-year-old. He married 29-year-old Jasmine McGriff who didn't think her father would walk her down the aisle in such an unconventional wedding. He changed his mind and is hitting it off great with Will since he found out that Will graduated from Lincoln University, the same college and he and Jasmine did.

Jasmine owns her own house and has a great job. She is very self-sufficient and has supportive family members and friends. She said the only thing missing is a person to marry and start a family with. Her last relationship did not last because she wants a family and her ex didn't want children. That was a deal breaker for Jasmine. She said she signed up for Married at First Sight so she could find "her Barack Obama."

Luke Cuccurullo and Kate Sisk

Luke Cuccurullo, 30, and Kate Sisk, 27, might be the couple to watch. Luke was very uncomfortable showing affection to Kate on their wedding day. Kate didn't seem thrilled the way her new husband was acting. He didn't want to show affection during the photo shoot and at the reception. He shared with his friends that he might sleep on the couch on his wedding night.

Both of them have a similar background. Luke is very close to his mother, but he rarely speaks to his father who divorced his mother when Luke was very young. Kate's parents divorced not long ago. Her father did not attend the wedding, but her brother walked her down the aisle. Viewers will see how the divorce of both of their parents will have an effect on Luke and Kate's marriage.

Luke said he want to be involved in the Married at First Sight experiment because he has exhausted all other avenues to find a life partner.

When Luke first saw Kate walking down the aisle on the arm of her brother, he whispered to his groomsmen, "I know her." Fans were glad to find out the explanation of Luke's remark on the second episode on January 8. He had actually met her before because he runs a speed dating service. He recognized Kate, but she did not recognize him. He reminded her of their meeting after they were married.

Pastor Roberson said if the experts had known Luke and Kate had met before, they would have been disqualified from being on the show.

It is interesting that most of the other couples said they wondered if they would run into someone who would be a match for them on Married at First Sight. Pastor Roberson said they reviewed photos of the couples' exes to avoid this from happening. However, Luke and Kate did not break any rules because at the time they met they did not know they would be on the show or that the experts had matched them.

Keith Dewar and Kristine Killingsworth

Keith Dewar and Kristine Killingsworth's wedding day was just the opposite of Luke and Kate's. The newlyweds had no problem sharing a lot of kisses. They seemed to have made an instant connection. Let's hope the connection survives two problems that came up in the couple's conversations.

Keith, 29, said he doesn't like working out and Kristine, 28, does. Keith said he doesn't cook. Kristine has already said that she is not going to do all the cooking. At least Keith compromised and said he would do the cleaning. Viewers will definitely see more of these two issues as the season continues.

Summary of the Firsts
