Born March of 1985, in England to a playwright mother and an acting father, Keira knew exactly what she wanted to be at an early age. She asked her parents for an agent at the age of three, according to Wikipedia, and had one by the age of six when she was also diagnosed with dyslexia.
Keira is absolutely slated to be a timeless beauty and great actress of all time. In my heart she is already held in much the same esteem as Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett. As she ages she will probably even compare to my all time favorite, Katharine Hepburn, we’ll have to wait and see.
Don’t miss watching her in “Bend It Like Beckham”, a 2002 movie role, in which she is a soccer player opposite Parminder Nagra, excellent feel good movie. In the Pirates of the Caribbean series, starting in 2003, she played Elizabeth Swan, the love interest of Orlando Blooms character Will Turner, opposite Johnny Depp.
She has so many great films accredited to her name already that it’s hard to choose just three. It took much deliberation and thought but here they are.
Georgiana Duchess of Cavendish 1787
I love Keira in this film, a moving portrayal of the Duchess of Devonshire who, in fact, was Princess Di’s Great Great Aunt. It’s a shame that over two hundred years later, Princess Di faced the same heart break her glorious ancestor faced in her time.
Ralph Fiennes, as the Duke, is a believable, self centered egocentric aristocrat accustomed to having his own way in a man’s world. He makes his ownership of his wife and her emotions as well as her personal life perfectly clear to her and even keeps his mistress in the same residence as well as at the same table. A disgraceful act of thoughtless selfishness, something I can only cringe about.
This is a magnificent, opulent bit of cinematography. The detail to history as well as the authenticity of décor, dress and social inequity of the time is fabulous. A must watch for history buffs.
King Aurthur 2004
This portrayal of King Arthur and his Guinevere seem to follow history more effectively than any past movies have. Other King Arthur movies seem to dwell on the adultery of Guinevere and Lancelot as well as the magical realm of Merlin. While those attributes are fantastical entertaining additions I have always wanted to know the true history of Arthur, a quest many a historian have ventured upon only to fall short of the mark.
The fact that stories were written, much later, about Arthur’s Battles during the beginning of the Dark Ages, Medieval times, and the fall of the Western Roman Empire in Britton is heartening. Arthur was portrayed as a great Roman British warrior in the fifth and sixth centuries, most likely fighting for what he had built during his occupation there as a Roman presence in Britton.
Because of the lack of or loss of written accounts of that time we may never know the truth. For me this movie runs closest to the probable truth that can be taken from the era and future written acclaims of the man.
Keira Knightley, Clive Owen and Stephan Dillane are a perfect warrior trio in this film. I love the fact that Keira is playing an authentic western European woman of the time not only fearless in battle but thriving on the excitement of the bloodlust running through her veins.
Pride & Prejudice 2004
Who doesn’t love a great Jane Austin novel put to film? The beauty and innocence of her writing could not have been enacted better than here with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. The sparks that fly between the two during the filming of this movie is magnificent to watch. The perfect timing, the intellectual heartfelt banter between the two is breathtaking, a novelty in movies today.
This movie is full of brilliant Actors/Actresses that give the movie a stunning warmth of family and love, a place I could live if a woman’s future didn’t depend entirely on her choice of husband. Mrs. Bennet is the perfect mother of the time fighting for the best interests of her four delightful daughters.
The setting is lush and vibrant with historical perfection as well as cutting wit and challenge by each and every word uttered here. I have watched this movie many times over just for the comforting feeling it generates.

Nice picks on Keira Knightley....I have seen all three of the ones you mentioned.....I think P.O.C. Curse of the Black Pearl and Love Actually would round out my Top 5. Sadly it looks like her career has slowed since her Pirates trilogy ended. Voted up and interesting.
