The Journey with Journey

"Music has been my loyal and constant companion my entire life." ~ Sylvestermouse Cynthia

Journey of Life

Some of my favorite songs were originally preformed by the band Journey. For generations, Journey has touched hearts with their music.

In the journey of life, almost everyone has a musical artist or band that defines who they are, what they love, how they hurt or what they want.

Music can even shape our thoughts, teach us how to act or react, encourage us, inspire us and sometimes even depress us, but one thing is for sure, it will accompany us though out our days.

Journey "Open Arms"

Journey, the Unforgetable Rock Band

When we hear old songs, we are carried back in time. Some places we may not want to remember, others we never want to forget.

Even though the band Journey was originally formed in 1973, they were not joined by lead singer, Steve Perry until 1977. They received their first platinum album in 1978 for their album Infinity which featured "Lights" and "Wheel In The Sky." In 1979 Journey recorded Evolution, which gave the band their first Billboard 100 Top 20 single, "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'"; and in 1980 Departure, reached No. 8 on the album charts and included the top-25 hit "Any Way You Want It" which is still extremely popular today. In 1980 they also recorded their live album Captured. As with many time enduring bands, some of the band members changed, but their popularity continued.

Journey released their eighth and biggest-selling studio album, Escape, in 1981. The 9 time platinum album went to number one on the album charts that year, and included three top-ten hits: "Who's Cryin' Now", "Don't Stop Believing", and "Open Arms".

In 1983, Journey recorded Frontiers which reached No. 2 on the album charts, selling nearly six million copies. The album generated four Top 40 hits, "Separate Ways," "Faithfully," "Send Her My Love", and "After the Fall."

The band broke up for a few years, but came back together in 1986 to record and release Raised on Radio which went multiplatinum, selling over two million copies. This album gave us hits like "Be Good to Yourself", "I'll Be Alright Without You", "Girl Can't Help It ", and "Suzanne." Although this album was followed by a concert tour and fans were hopeful of future albums, the tour was interrupted and the band once again went separate ways.

In 1988 Columbia records released Journey's greatest hits album which to date was the band's best-selling record. It has sold over 15 million copies in the United States.

Several of the band members, including Steve Perry reunited in 1995 and recorded the album Trial By Fire which was released in 1996.

Journey Without Perry

In 1998, Steve Perry was replaced as lead singer by Steve Augeri and they achieved a respectable amount of success. Then in 2006 Augeri was replaced by Jeff Scott Soto for a short time but Soto was replaced by Arnel Pineda. It was Pineda who sang lead on their album Revelation in 2008.

Although this rock band has seen many changes over the years, changes which included style, band members and fans, they have endured as one of the most successful American rock bands of all times.

A Different Kind of Journey

The immeasurable grief over the recent death of my brother is much too difficult for me to discuss or to even write about, but I felt his gift was noteworthy in this lens.

Throughout my brothers life, he was always compassionate, giving and the first to jump in if someone needed help. A few short years ago, he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Before he died, he gave each of my children one of his Journey albums. We framed them and they are now treasured gifts, ironically symbolic of a different kind of journey.

What is your favorite Journey song?

Fay Favored from USA on August 11, 2014:

Really like the title, clever. Haven't heard these songs in a long time. Don't Stop Believin is one I liked, but there were many.

oddobjective on May 02, 2013:

I absolutely love Journey. I loved it best when Steve Perry was the lead singer but it is a great band. Although I love so many of their songs "Lights" just makes me feel so relaxed and good. Great lens!

Don't Stop Believin' has to be my favourite of Journey's songs. Even in the worst of times, it's a mantra to follow :)

Shelly Sellers from Midwest U.S.A. on September 30, 2010:

Oh, I'm so glad I found your lens! I was a HUGE Fan in the 70's & 80's and drove my friends nuts ;) I would have to say "Lights" was my favorite tune, as it was the first one I heard. Followed by "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" & "Open Arms".

What a tribute you have made for your Dear Brother. I lost my Brother as well, but not the same way. It is still painful and will always be.

BWDuerr from Henrietta, New York on June 15, 2010:

So many excellent songs to pick from, but I'd have to say my favorite Journey song is "Open Arms". So sorry to hear about your brother, but it's a fine tribute to frame the albums that he had kept for all those years. 5 stars for your Journey, and lensrolled to my 80's Power Ballads. Thanks for sharing.

WhiteOak50 on January 08, 2010:

I forgot when it was but it was here recent, I seen Steve Perry on TV singing one of his songs from years ago. I had to go to YouTube and listen to more songs. It amazes me how many memories these songs bring back. Great Lens! Congratulations on becoming a SquidAngel!!

HorseAndPony LM on November 21, 2009:

I loved Journey. I also love that you framed the albums from you brother. What a great lens.

JoyfulPamela2 from Pennsylvania, USA on September 24, 2009:

Thanks for your wonderful lens on Journey. Check out my Jonathan Cain lens. Thanks! Pamela

Heather Burns from Wexford, Ireland on August 17, 2009:

Journey was one of my favorites too. Once when driving across country I saw their tour bus, with the word "Journey" on the destination sign in front. It took me a minute to figure out that it was them, and then I started honking and waving like a FAN! The driver honked back and people waved in the bus so that my day! I passed them:)

after losing 2 siblings, I feel your pain...some day it will be better :)

Carol Fisher from Warminster, Wiltshire, UK on August 12, 2009:

I'd never heard of Journey before, maybe they never made it big in the UK, or I just missed out. I've watched the videos and I think they are great, so much so that I'll look for more on You Tube. Great job on the lens.

Cynthia, I'm so sorry about your brother and can understand why it's too hard to talk or write about now. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Mary Beth Granger from O'Fallon, Missouri, USA on August 06, 2009:

Beautiful music and lens 5*

puzzlerpaige on August 06, 2009:

I'm not the best with remembering which band plays which song, but I do recognize all of these songs as great ones. Thanks for sharing about your brother. My heart is with you.

Seeking Pearls from Pueblo West on August 06, 2009:

Journey holds a place in my journey as well. Music and people become such integral part of our lives, those shared moments together are recaptured when we hear a melody. My heart goes out to you and your family with the loss of your brother.

Alisha Vargas from Reno, Nevada on August 04, 2009:

Journey is one of my favorite bands as well. I'm so sorry about your brother.
