The title of this hub suggests that I am calling the validity of John Edward's mediumship into question. From a journalistic standpoint, indeed I am. I want to examine all available evidence and present an argument both for and against his psychic abilities, particularly his assertion that he communicates with the dead and has been doing so since a young age.
From a personal perspective, however, I will say that I do believe in him. I don't know whether or not he gives cold readings or has accomplices sitting in the audience or microphones hidden in the eaves outside where guests of the show wait on line. But I do know that he provides closure, that the people who have sat down with John Edward for a reading have come away feeling as though they connected with someone they had lost. His universal message is that another realm does exist, that although we cannot see those who have past we must never forget that they are still there, alive and well on the other side, and that they continue to watch over us. He reinforces this fact over and over again, and despite it's legitimacy it provides comfort if nothing else.
After giving private readings at home and at psychic fairs for a number of years, John Edward was eventually given his own show "Crossing Over" on the SciFi channel in July 2000. A hundred or so audience members gather in a studio with John Edward and wait as he receives images from the otherside. The audience is instructed NOT to give him any information or further details, just to either validate or invalidate the messages he is delivering to them. He emerges from backstage, gives a brief intro, then begins talking quickly and "feeling pulled" to a particular section of the audience, saying something like, "I'm getting an M name, like M, like Mary, Marie, Maria...?"
Skeptics unanimously agree that Edward uses a method called "cold reading" during his performances. Cold reading is a mentalist technique that dates back to the Spiritualist movement of the late-1800's. According to Wikipedia.org, cold reading is "a technique used to convince another person that the reader knows much more about a subject than he actually does. Even without prior knowledge of a person, a practiced cold reader can still quickly obtain a great deal of information about the subject by carefully analyzing the person's body language, clothing or fashion, hairstyle, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race or ethnicity, level of education, manner of speech, place of origin, etc." The definition goes on to say that cold readers use high probability guesses, picking up on clues from their subjects to see if their guess is going in the right direction. If it is, the medium will quickly reinforce this information. If it's a miss, the medium will quickly move on.
Mediums who allegedly use the cold reading technique usually assure compliance from their subjects ahead of time by saying something like, "Often the messages I receive will be unclear and fuzzy; I'll need you to help me decipher what it is they're really trying to say." The medium will begin by making a series of probing questions, the subject will reveal further information with his or her verbal or non-verbal replies, and the pattern repeats from there. One cold reading technique supposedly employed by John Edward is called "shotgunning". Basically, the medium quickly offers a huge amount of very general information all in one sentence to a large group of people (the audience), watches for reactions, then narrows the scope down to a smaller section until someone connects with the information. A shotgun opening could sound something like, "I'm getting an M name from a mother-figure, someone above you, this could be mother, aunt, grandmother, older cousin, step-mother even someone who raised you who acted as a mother-figure."
Critics point out that due to the show being edited for television, Edward appears to be more accurate than he actually is. Those who have attended a live taping estimate that he is only correct 10-20% of the time. While this may be true, and certainly John Edward seems to employ these methods of cold reading, some amazing "hits" have been documented. On the website Greatest Hits and Misses of Psychic John Edward, one example of a great hit involves a Disney ring.
John Edward: One last validation. She says to go into the bathroom, Okay and in the bathroom there is something in an unusual spot, forward left. So when you walk into the bathroom, right to the left there, there's something right there she wants me to acknowledge. It's like Mickey Mouse related. It's like Disney related.
Sitter (Mother's older Daughter): - Oh My God!
John Edward: What is this?
Sitter (Mother's sister): That's where my ring is that she got me when she was in Disney World.
Skeptics also latch onto the idea that Edward never says anything negative. The messages from the deceased are always pleasant, letting their loved ones know that they're fine, that they're doing okay. And yet I can remember one instance where he connected with a woman's mother and reported that she was very cold, very negative, with a biting tongue and a nasty attitude. Skeptics are hard pressed to believe that everyone is happy and loving on the other side, but isn't that what Heaven is for? Critics also believe that Edward is immoral for targeting people when they are at their most vulnerable, mourning over the loss of a loved one.
Bottom line, whether his methods of communicating with the dead are valid or not, John Edward is friendlier, and more astute than his crude, harsh counterparts James Van Praagh and Sylvia Browne. The messages he delivers are positive and reassuring, providing comfort and solace in a time of extreme grief. His readings have helped thousands of people find peace in the midst of a tragedy, thereby enabling them to move on and live fuller, happier lives, secure with the knowledge that their loved ones are safe and sound in a place we cannot see, waiting to reconnect with us when the time is right.

Not all psychics are frauds my niece went to see tarot medium when she lost her grandad on on my sister inlaws side he was in his nineties when passed but for some reason my dad came through first my niece did know my dad has he passed away when he was 45 years old suddenly the medium was telling her who he was but all of a sudden he got pushed by a stronger spirit this was her grandad or dad of sister inlaw i beleave exist as i have witnessed it too but my experience was different to a mediums i only knew who it was when they appeared in my dream after telling the hotel staff of my experience they told who it was a young girl had fallen from a top floor bedroom window it was a long way down she died instantly a tragic death for some one so young. anyway it like a lot of factors with mediums and psychics you get off days and you cannot just say is there anyone there. It be a bit like somebody visting a friend and theres no body there no matter how many times you knock the door no body gona answer cause the gone out its like a medium demonstration they have to get the word out via guides and other beings in the other realm the only difference they dont have to buy a ticket like us and lucky one get a message and the un lucky ones go home with a long face

John edwards is a FAKE!!. He is a a very calculating person and his gift is reading people. He always asked the obvious question, did someone pass away, did someone commit suicide, did your mum pass away, did you lose a child, everyone has experinced one of these and he knows that these people are there for that reason. I would love for one of these people to find what happened to Madeline mcahnor why was Brianna lopez killed by her evil parents.
MG2012 on March 29, 2013:
@ Renz - I think you're wrong. Whatever you believe for yourself is up to you, but about John Edward, I was there and the reading he did for my sister and me was not a 'cold reading'. He had information that was impossible for him to have attained, except from the other side. If you read my posts above, I wasn't going to attend the show. I didn't buy tickets. I was pretty much a skeptic and wasn't overly interested in going. My sister talked me into it because the person she was going to go with decided against it at the last minute. So, my name wasn't on a roster. But, John Edward knew my name (first and middle), he knew my grandmother's name and...and!!! how she died. No one knows that. Except a few family members. He knew the name of my sister who had just passed away two weeks before the show. My sister's and my reading completely freaked me out. I was shaking. He wasn't fishing around with initials or anything like that. He came right out with my grandmother's first name, my first and middle name, my deceased sister's first name. And other things I can't even remember now (it's been a year). You said, 'Even if you had a good reading by him, it doesn't matter,' and I think that's the key here. I don't think you want to believe in it no matter what, and hey, go with that, if that makes you satisfied and happy. All I'm saying is that I think you're wrong. Do I have a broken heart (as you stated above about the 'suckers' who would be the only ones to believe in this). No. But I do miss my dad, my brother and my sister who have all passed away within the last seven years. I am very grateful to have had the reading.
p.s. - my grandmother died from ingesting something unusual. It's written nowhere. But John Edward started our reading by saying he had someone from the other side whose name was Mary who had died because she ingested this particular substance. And no, it's not on her death certificate. Can you give me any plausible reason he would have been able to obtain this information without our knowledge? I'm actually open to hearing what you have to say. That's how much I think you are mistaken.
Renz on March 17, 2013:
Furthermore, I think any open minded person (believer or non believer) could be convinced of what a snake this man is, after just a few hours of demonstration and explanation on cold reading.
Just out of curiosity, have any of the believers above, actually studied this in detail?
I am not trying to offend anyone or show intelligence, it just makes me sick to see good people with broken hearts wasting there time and money on this greedy sleazebag.
Even if you had a good reading by him, it doesn't matter. John Edwards and the like, are playing a game of chance. For every one person that swears by him I'm sure there's at least another who found it disappointing how off the mark he was.
I hope one day , evidence of real psychic ability will be found. For now, don't waste your money on this clown.
Renz on March 17, 2013:
Psychics shouldn't have to make guesses.
I'm open to the possibility of psychic ability but there are many frauds. John Edwards appears to be one of them. He is using standard cold reading techniques. He is using them obviously and quite poorly.
The only way he gets away with it is because the people that go to his shows are grief stricken and vulnerable, they want to believe.
Raven on February 08, 2013:
It's all been said - by some more intelligently than by others, but that's hardly the point - but I will give my two cents' worth, anyway. I have not been read by John Edwards, so I have no first hand experience, but from what the people are saying who HAVE been read by him, I think it's likely that he is the real deal. This doesn't mean that he, being human, won't sometimes have off days. What I think impresses me the most about these comments is how sad the 'unbelievers' are, and how horrified they would be if they could see how and why their comments are off-base. I use quotation marks around the word unbelievers, because in truth they DO believe - that it could not be true that John Edwards is getting messages from beyond our usual stations. That they so blindly believe it is impossible is almost the same as blindly believing. It is a bit different, however, when filled with such anger - and even hatred (as so many of the skeptics' comments are) - and so devoid of hope or connection to the world of the spirit. Such a flat, dull and shallow way to live. I pray for those of you who are stuck in such a narrow rut, and hope that some day you will be able to crawl out into the bigger world.

MG2012 on October 20, 2012:
@ CF - If I had this gift - (which, by the way, I wouldn't want), then yes, I think I would try to find missing people, etc. Actually, I do think that John Edward partners with the police force on some cases - but I don't really know, so don't take my word for it. Might be worth checking out before you say he doesn't. Also, I don't think John Edward has much control over who comes through and what happens. I think it's a bit hit or miss. I think it's the 'other side' who determines what happens / who comes through. So, with that, I can't tell you why he does his shows, and makes money at it in the process. Perhaps he feels he is helping people and in the process making an earthly living. I'm not one to judge. You know the saying, 'don't judge someone until you've walked a mile in his/her shoes'. He's a medium, not a saint.
CF on October 08, 2012:
@MG2012 - Don't avoid the question. Give me an answer.
MG2012 on October 07, 2012:
@ Cameron - I can't answer your questions. I don't know why a medium would or wouldn't do what you say. What I can do, however, is say that whatever it is that Johny Edward can do, is absolutely amazing. I'm a natural skeptic as well. If you read my previous post, you will see that I didn't even want to go to his show. I went because my sister insisted I attend with her since her husband had decided he didn't want to go. I don't know how John Edward could possibly know the things he did. I can't explain it. It changed the way I see the 'other side'. What he said left me flabbergasted, stunned. Since then, when I have relayed the story to family and friends, some have said, "Oh, he must have researched you online." No, that couldn't have been. I wasn't even going to attend. And it wasn't reserved seating. Someone else said, "Your sister must have set you up." Nope, she wouldn't do that, and doesn't know John Edward. I challenge anyone to explain to me how he could have possibly known what he said about my family if he wasn't in fact communicating with the 'other side'.

The comments for this article are more interesting to read than the article itself. Who wrote this garbage?
I'm not religious and I am a huge skeptic when it comes to certain things. Bigfoot is not real, UFOs are fake, and there is no Heaven or Hell. Now, the reason I say that isn't because I have no imagination or because I refuse to believe in the impossible. I say these things because people can not be trusted.
I refuse to believe in the Bible because humans wrote it and most humans are idiots. I don't believe in Mediums for the same reason. Human Beings can not be trusted - pretty simple...
I believe that people can be selfish and cruel yet can also be loving and compassionate. This Edward guy wouldn't be making people pay for tickets if he honestly cared about others. Sure, people have to make a living but hey man - get a real job and help people for free. This rule should apply to ALL Mediums. No one will take a Medium seriously if you have to pay them. I wouldn't...
To the people who believe in this guy I have a question for you -- If you had this gift would you really be doing what John Edward is doing? Wouldn't you use this gift to help people for free? Wouldn't you use it to help find missing children or help catch a killer? Why on earth would you waste this amazing gift the way John Edward is?

MG2012 on July 18, 2012:
@ Sevren - I disagree with you. You say you could do the same thing? Okay, tell me the names of my father and two brothers. That's how accurate JE was. You telling a total stranger some random generic 'advise' isn't even within the same ballpark to what JE did. JE knew my grandmother's name. He knew my name. He knew my sister's name and that she had passed. And most of all, he knew how my grandmother had died (and trust me, it was unusual). No one, except a small group of my family knows. So tell me how he did that? This has nothing to do with reality being what you believe.
Oh, and one last thing - why did you come to this site if you don't buy into any of this? Just curious.
Sevren on July 08, 2012:
I saw J. Edwards before he was on TV. There was no line. I'd say about a 100-150 people were seated. This was in the 1990's. I'd say once a few people were read the general atmosphere in the room was spiritual.
People feed off that. Example; The nut that bought my ticket ran next door and told her neighbor's why their son died. J. Edwards not responsible but an example of his close followers.
In short I used the same method over the phone w/a total stranger and dead on had her crying accidently for not helping a girl who's mother had died.
Anyone with the talent to get in front of the group can do what he doe's. If I could get a chance for the money I feel is made I would. He's as real as we make him. Apparently the majority wins, and so doe's he.
MG2012 on July 07, 2012:
I went to see JE in May 2012. I hadn't planned on going at all but my sister talked me into it. Her husband had purchased two tickets, and then decided not to go.
I accepted at the last minute (actually two days prior to the event). So I wasn't on any roster.
I went into the show being a bit skeptical but expecting to, at the least, be entertained.
The first reading was done and JE was pretty good. I thought, ah, they're probably planted in the audience. (that's the truth, I did. I wasn't sure how I felt about the whole thing).
The second reading, though, ended up being my sister and me. (We were absolutely not planted in the audience. We did wait in line and we went out into the main area afterward - i.e. we were definitely not people planted in the audience as other posts are insisting happens with people who are read).
Anyway, first, JE named my sister's two sons. I poked at my sister at that point and joked, "Hey, that's you." But, then he said he was getting someone who had passed who had died in an unusual way. (I'm not saying how, because it's something my family keeps quiet - it's about my grandmother and I suppose she must not mind too much having people know since there had to be at least 600 people in that room that night - but I figured I needn't mention it here).
Anyway, the way in which she died isn't discussed or written anywhere. At that point, I remember crying out in shock. I couldn't believe it. My sister and I stood up at that point and said, "That's us."
Then, JE said the woman who had passed was Mary. That was correct. Our grandmother's name was Mary (how could he know that?). Then he asked if either my sister or I were Mary Elizabeth. My name is Mary Elizabeth. At that point, I started to shake like a leaf. (How could he possibly know that? I hadn't agreed to go to the show until two days prior to the event.)
He then said he had someone else on the other side who was with my grandmother, Mary, and that this person's name was Eileen. Our sister Eileen had passed just two weeks prior to the show. I was absolutely floored. JE wasn't fishing around and giving general information. This was absolutely spot on. He asked if she had passed recently and we said "Yes, just two weeks ago."
JE also said something about our mother (who is still alive), speaking on behalf of Eileen, and those comments were spot on as well.
The message from the other side - from my sister and my grandmother - was to watch over mom since losing two of her children was hard and that she wasn't doing well. (My brother died in 2007 in a car accident).
So, the reason why I felt I had to post here is for the non-believers. I would say, reserve judgment until you've had a reading yourselves. Then judge. I don't know why we were picked from over 600 other people in the room. But I am grateful. It was amazing. (and everything I've written here is the absolute, absolute truth).
I am trying / hoping to get some kind of transcript of the show, but don't know if that's possible.
p.s. - my sister and I didn't talk much while we waited in line. The only bit of information someone lurking near us could have gotten was maybe our sister Eileen's name. I actually mentioned that I wanted my brother and my dad to come through, and they didn't.
And, the rest of the stuff. Impossible. Had to come from the other side.

I'm really sick and tired of the evil idiots that say John Edward, the medium is a fake he is not John, is the real deal. Well think again there is an Almighty Father, and the Almighty Jesus Christ, Lord and Savior...Son of God. So all i have to say to you non-believers is i try to see things from your point of view but i can't get my head that far up my butt!!! Im sure a lot is true, and a lot may not be. However, we're all convinced of something or searching for something that we are seeking answers to. The simple truth is we have no proof. In either direction. What we have is faith, and love. That love for someone recently passed, the loss and pain of knowing we will never see them again, drives us into looking for an answer. That's not a bad thing. I went to Lilydale last summer in hopes of something from a dead brother, and now my Mom is passed on only a week and Im busy searching for answers. The thing is, we can probably with a little work do a lot of it ourselves. The object is to be unafraid. In truth I've heard politicians do a cold sell that would make John Edward seem like a kindgerartner.

All these people were waiting outside with us before the show, nobody including myself & my daughter were discussing loved ones who have passed over, including tiny details in some instances about a horse, including names & other details only the person who was being read would know! John is compassionate & definitely did mention negative details during some of the readings........it certainly was not all "love & roses"! I don't need to try convince all the cynics out there, & I certainly do not classify myself as an idiot.....I'm actually a pretty intelligent person! I KNOW what I witnessed on 2 occasions is the "real deal". The man must be an absolute genius to remember & know the extreme details & in some cases fairly intimate details that could only be known by the person being read & the person who has passed over! The things he's being accused of are totally ridiculous! Of course there are a lot of "fakes" out there, as there are in every "profession, fraternity" etc., but there also are the genuine people, as I believe JE's is!! Label me whatever you like, I saw him give people closure, knowing stuff about their lives he could not possibly know if not genuine....but oh! I forgot about all the cloak & dagger stuff.....the hidden microphones etc. as for charging a fee,of course he must, he has a family to support, traveling costs to be paid! Trish on January 10, 2012:
I have to say that I agree with the comments of AnduinX. Why is it that when people are open to believing, they are gullible? I think it is the other way around, and that those who refuse to believe are simply close-minded. Or perhaps they are afraid to challenge their religious beliefs. Whatever the reasoning behind it, why insult those who have faith?
I'm sure that we all have something about us that others would question. Why be so judgmental? If you don't believe in psychic mediums, then keep on moving. What people choose to believe shouldn't be any concern of yours. Stop trying to make yourself out to be a superior mind because you couldn't possibly believe in anything as silly as a medium. If you're a skeptic, fine, move on. Don't waste the time of those who stand to gain something.
I, for one, really like the Long Island Medium, Theresa. The fact that she can't seem to control how often or where the spirits come through, leads me to believe that she is right on. Why waste her own time in walking up to someone in a grocery store when she could just get her stuff and go home? She clearly has a gift and shares it with as many people as possible.
The bottom line is that there will never stop being skeptics. At the same time, I undoubtedly believe that there are fakes out there trying to pass themselves off as psychics. However, I do not believe this to be the case with John Edwards or Theresa.

Personally i do believe in it as i have had some experiences of my own. My mom's sister removed them and me and my mother were upset with the idea of her doing that. My aunt explained to us that the funeral homes remove personal jewelry before putting them in the graves. So she took my grandmothers jewelry off of her. When I saw John he brought up the fact that my grandmother was ok with the removal of her jewelry!!! HOW CAN THAT BE A COLD READING??? You who don't belive in John don't have to ever believe in him. I'm just here to say I DO!!!

I went to one of John Edwards shows in upstate NY. I saw hundreds of people who were highly emotional, clutching everything from pictures to their favorite pets toy. I won't comment on Edwards, however, with the millions of people who have died around the planet in the last, say, fifty years, why is it that its only the ones who speak english and happen to have a connection to someone in the audience?

I want to believe so bad, unfortunetly I see nothing but a munipulator. He reminds me of the card trick that you make the person choose the card that's in your pocket. for example, I want you to pick the ace of spades. I will aske you to pick 5 cards from ace to ten.If you said the ace I will say pick 2 of the five you chose if you did not pick it I will say what's left and use those cards and tell you to pick from those until you pick the one I want. I do the same with the suits. Its munipulation. most people die of cancer. He wiil ask if you lost anyone to cancer. If you say no he will say the person next to you is comunicating. I don't understand how gullable people are.
AnduinX on December 09, 2011:
From reading these posts, it seems most of the believers speak of the content of the readings as a reason why they believe John Edward to be genuine.
This is generally the category that the open-minded fall into. The open minded suspend their belief or disbelief, and simply judge John Edward based on the probability of his hits.
Most of the naysayers on the other hand strike me as either closed-minded skeptics who start with the conclusion that this is impossible because it conflicts with the materialist idea that mind is simply a function of the brain, or because it conflicts with their religious belief system.
The tired old 'cold reading' explanation simply fails at explaining the kind of high-quality hits that John Edward regularly produces. The only ones who could believe the 'cold reading' drivel are the ones who were closed-minded to begin with and never looked into the phenomenon.
The ones who claim he gets his hits through audience plants and conspiracy are on even shakier footing. Have any of you who believe this thought of exactly what that would entail?
Think about it like this. What would be the necessary components required for him to use audience plants? For starters he would need to find actors to play the part. That sounds simple enough until you work out the math.
John Edward could not use the same actors repeatedly, as this would make his audience tampering obvious. He would need new actors for each appearance.
Even if John Edward only had a few plants per appearance, he has made a LOT of appearances and a LOT of highly improbable hits. The sheer number of plants that would be required would be enormous.
What is the probability that not one of those actors would come forward with evidence of the fraud? What is the probability that, in the attempt to find actors in the first place, he wouldn't run into many people who thought what he was doing was morally wrong, and thus try to record and expose his attempt to get them to act on his show?
The fact that he has been at it for years, and the internet is devoid of any such evidence of conspiracy makes the audience plant explanation utterly laughable.

This goes back three yrs! John Edwards brings Comfort, Peace and, dare I say, Hope to many who really need confirmation of the afterlife. Who doesn't? For you atheists out there that write on this site to disrespect others for their beliefs should continue to write. WHY? Maybe it will help you to question your own faith in what you believe in.If you believe, pray for John Edwards to have peace, serenity, and happiness to continue on. He is not God, nor does he try to act like God. Shame on those of you that think that.

It makes me shudder when i read this thread. I'm a medium myself and have only just 'come out' fo the mediumship closet because of such fear, rejection and narrow mindedness regarding this subject. At first i just helped close friends, then they recommended me to other friends and i spent hours upon hours doing this for nothing, no cost. I had to get real and after years started to charge a low cost.. but i was happy with it and it helps to pay the bills. i've watched John and i can personally 'see' he is connected to spirit, although i cannot relate to reading for more than a couple of people in one room (i get confused with energies if more than that!) so i wouldn't be able to read to a whole audience, but that doesn't mean to say that he can't.
There are many people born with the gift of mediumship, but unless it is accepted as 'normal for some' it will stay in realms of 'mysticism' and some mediums will charge extortionate fee's for that very reason. My children are like me and they are already using their gifts/talents however you want to label it, for their own growth.. but do not talk about it with their friends for fear of rejection. If all people could connect to spirit as easily as John (or I for that matter) their lives would be transformed for the better, no question.

All of the comments regarding John being a fraud are clearly said by closed minded individuals who have not been involved the amazing experience (or annoyed that they were not lucky enough to have their important loved ones come through)
Don't criticize something just because you do not understand it or you can not feel or see for yourself. We are all entitled to our own opinions which is the wonderful part of what makes us all individuals however he must be a bloody genius if he can stand in a room full of strangers and “con” them. There was certainly no hidden microphones I am not an actor, nor did I have the opportunity to speak prior to John starting his readings.
I was a little skeptical also in terms of how it all works however I took my mum to see him today and we were lucky enough to have 3 family members that had passed come through (My grandpa, uncle and cousin who was only 12 which had unanswered questions around the death). We answered his questions with simple yes and no responses, he continued to draw out accurate and relevant information and messages - there is no way he would have known the intricate details without our family coming through from the afterlife to tell him.
Thanks to John my family is able to move on feeling content, having the missing pieces surrounding their deaths answered.
He is amazing and it was an experience that my mum, who like many has had their quality of life seriously affected with these deaths and I can't find the words to thank him enough. He has given our family the ability to move on knowing that they are all together, happy and clarifying the uncertainties that would have continued to be a burden if we did not see him today.
He is honestly BRILLIANT and again we can’t thank him enough for spreading his wings down in Aus. Thanks John you’re a special angel to many and you literally helped change our lives!!

Hmm is it no wonder that this jon Edwards guy is no longer seen as much on TV like he used to be.I am sorry but from the programs that I used to watch he seemed to use alot of guessing when it came to aquireing information from his guests. That is what is known as Cold calling. I found him to be a disgusting piece of crap who took advantage of grieving people. Just so he could make himself look like he had a great gift.
He has no gift, just very good ay manipulating people to give him the information he needed to make it look like he knew more than he really did. My advice stay the hell awawy from people who claim to have these abilities
If you are grieving and needing solace, seek out a grief counselor or priest who is trained in how to help you through difficult times like the passing of a loved one

God gave us all the miracle of consciousness and free will to know our experiences in the physical world. All life is an energy vibration and everyone has psychic ability to pick up traces of information from that energy. We do not die our soul is eternal. If they are elevated in their awareness anyone can communicate with the other realms but the question is why would they want to. Always question when someone says they can do this for you and decide for yourself from what you see, hear and feel about them and their intentions. Just as an interesting point to note the Devil or Demons do not exist they are a complete and utter false myth - used by man and religion to control others through fear. Parts of the bible were written and adapted by people in authority many years after the events had happened and these have to be treated cautiously because the authors intentions often were to control their flock. The real God who is our creator is not vengeful or to be feared, that is a man made false God. God is pure love and cannot ever get it wrong and to even consider God created a devil and that that devil could in fact damage God or Gods creations is pure fiction and impossible. To believe that quite simply reduces the perception of Gods Glory and Perfection. God has no need to prove anything - God simply is. Look into your heart and you will find God - always question everything and decide for yourself - do not take the word of others whose intentions are quite simply to control by Fear. Ask within for your own signs and be alert - you will find God and the answers you are looking for.

I often wonder if J.E is able to read minds but that is it. He could be gleaming all his information from the minds of the audience and not from the deceased relations.
Also ,I do not think that once one dies they can return to this realm, my opinion, but I do think that there are entities that can realm hop-such as angels and demons. How do we know John E. Is not being used by a demon? You may ask why would a demon do that but , as people have pointed out from his readings, he does not seem to have any messages of sadness- would not a demon want a human to believe they can live sinfully and not have any repercussions? And what about faith- as a Christian I believe faith is important (that is, believing without seeing - but with prayer and the Holy Spirit) By asking for proof, evidence of love ones past , I think, that is taking away the fundamental necessity of having faith ( if
Christian) and something a demon would be pleased with. These are my thoughts as a Catholic Christian. I just do not think we should trust whom might be sending John messages-at best I think it is a mind reading gift , at worst, he is being used by the devil/ a demon.

there is no doubt that our loved ones are ok in the afterlife but contacting them ,or them contacting us is another thing? i myself went to the afterlife by accident in a near death experience and although i saw glimpses of the future and my whole life, i cant contact the other side? i was given the choice to stay there or come back which i did as you can see by this text and i can verify an afterlife exists. all i can tell anyone is that no one on this side of life can penetrate the barrier gate as once you enter all communication ceases. ghosts are in another department of the 6 realms and are traces of energy that didn't cross over or reincarnate. if you believe that john edward and other mediums can contact the afterlife with their physical senses then you are fooling yourselves , the afterlife is strictly a soul environment and we become solid again when we cross over , if we do wrong god reincarnates us till we get qualified for immortality. if i cant contact them in the afterlife after being there once then how on earth can these frauds claim they can.

all these mediums are fakes, no way can they talk to the dead as they are in another realm that god made unreachable for anyone to make contact with while still alive? only people who have had near death experiences can have glimpses of the spirit realms but talking to those that have crossed over is impossible even for them to communicate. its all about conning money out of the bereaved and strictly speaking this fraud should be outlawed and illegal.in england we have colin fry , tony stockwell, derek acora, and sally morgan all who claim these gifted powers but none of them can really do what they claim to do. they have had hidden microphones in the audience and plants were friends act as strangers, i saw the same person at one venue and then at another disguised but it didn't fool me? these people are parasites and are very good at deception especially to the gullible which there are plenty of. there is an afterlife but we only see it when our time is up not through mediums,

I saw Jon Edward live in New Brunswick, NJ a few years ago. I believe in psychic phenomenon because of a couple of personal readings I had with local psychics that were dead on with details that they could not possibly have known.
I liked Jon Edward's TV show and was impressed many times by his hits. But the live show I saw was not remarkable. The readings were sometimes apparently accurate, but the people being read were so willing to go along that it was hard to tell, as they were volunteering information and making it too murky. Also, there is no way to validate how accurate anything he said was without doing actual research into the validity of his hits. Just because someone says, "Oh my God" or "That's exactly right" does not mean Jon was actually right on the money. I think I just caught a bad show. I would give it another go.

Ok, Just saw John Edwards Yesterday In Rosemont, Illinois. He Charges about a $100.00 a ticket which is less than I paid for Metallica a few years ago, It's not $1000..as someone said. I was a sceptic but brought my Wife and Mother who had limited knowledge of JE. We are not actors, nor did we talk about our life story during the brief time before he came out. He explained his background and then the readings began. I'd say that out of about 10-15 detailed readings over the course of the 2.5 hours he came up with names, relations and cause of death on the 1st time about 90% of the time. I don't know how he does it but at the end my wife asked a question and he said there was a male presence who just passed from lung cancer. There was no way for him to know my father just died from lung cancer. We were stunned to say the least. It was reassuring and if that is wrong, oh well. He still tours the world and he has a website. Johnedward.net .His appearance dates for the world are on there. BE the judge yourself instead of just listening to people complain. I too watched crossing over and was on the fence about his abilities, but after seeing him with about 750 people and having him pick me out with a spot on reading I have to believe he has a gift. Why not?
It's worth a try. Metallica concerts never did anything for me like his group reading did.

Without faith we have nothing to hold us complex beings together !! For the critics, floating around in the air sounds a little rediculous but you should really do some studying on the things you don't know about before making judgement!! Regardless of religion ( To me is a cult )we are complex beings with thoughs, feelings and emotion !! We cry when were sad ,we think of the future and passed events,we mourn,we laugh and go through some of the most trying times in life!!I myself lost my sister in 96 and shortly after i left my own body with the help from her as i felt her energy pull me out of the chair!! Long story but i communicated with her and it was the most exciting ,warm, most incredible thing, nothing here on earth could ever compared too! After this experience i was reassured she was fine and in a good place!THIS WAS NO DREAM ! Right after that i was able to begin my mourning for her in a much better way then what i was previously before this happened! All i felt was LOVE, nothing more , nothing less !!We are all made of ENERGY , something you can't kill so where does our energy go when we die?It has to go somewhere and i truly believe we live on (since this is not our natural home anyway)!!Has anyone ever thought about when OUT OF THE BLUE depression hits you for NO REASON at all, everything in your life is just so perfect but you just can't seem to pin point why you feel the way you do!!Well from my reading experience and human experience i know this is not our natual home and there is much more to us then we think !! We go knowing everything from a baby and slowly forget everything as we get older and we most certainly go back to where we came from!! I also believe we make the most hardest choice to come here in the first place and for those of you who don't believe maybe you should think of your own mortality !One day we all will be in that position and believe me you will think hard what's after this !!!Some of you might not care now but i promise you ,you will......for all you younger generation who don't believe i'm sure you've seen all sorts of videos on little childern doing some of the most incredible things, things like never before seen in childern, they;re talent is most astonishing and they're doing things better than the adults, where does this come from ?With no training, start singing from they're high chair or do something else totally astounding ect and this stays with them for life! They are showing us that they came from somewhere that we as adults forget !They see family albums never seen before and seem to know that, that's Uncle Frank or aunt Susie!! They talk of seeing them and or talking with them and just know who they are!!Always believe a child!!They're never wrong!!What ever GOD is to you , there is no dought in my mind he works through people!! Now is the time he is working through our childeren but we still don't see! Here is a couple of little skits i'll personally hold on too! Do you believe in GOD,look its all around you......random chance,i think not, people look but they do not see!!I seen this engraved into a picnic bench,(usually its nothing but swearing and bad remarks)so this really made me think a little more about the beauty that surrounded me since the picnic bench was in the woods! My other quote i'dlike to share goes like this......I'd rather live my life as though there is a God,and die to find out there isn't,then to live my life as though there is not a GOD and die to find out there is!!Something for us all to think about!!JE definatley has a gift, and its from somewhere, whatever that somewhere is to each and every one of us, know that this is just a pit stop and there will be much more after this!!Truly love John Edwards and we need more good mediums just like him!!Way to go John, keep doing what you do best, you have an awsome heart, and people, that counts for something!!Baaa to all you critics and anyone to selfish to look what's in front of you, like the old saying goes.....you can't take it to heaven with you!!God Bless !!!!!

I find it interesting that all the critics of John base their arguments on conjecture and those are based on the hypothesis that none of this can be real. They proffer up no proof, mind you. I can only gather from these sceptical posts that they are "engineered" explanations from materialist nay-sayers motivated by the amazing performances of JE. On the one hand, they insist the performance be excellent and when it isn't, they cry, "FRAUD!" And when it is excellent, they again cry, "FRAUD", and then set about to devise all sorts of materialist explanations with no materialist proofs that those explanations are sound. It's unscientific, really. And for the record, JE along with several other mediums, was tested at the University of Arizona for his abilities and the success rate was astounding. Also, there was a phenomenon recorded on EEG and EKG that was and is replicable-a phenomenon not exhibited by non-mediums. Eat that!

If John Edward is a physic, how the hell does he "miss" on readings at all?
John Edward is a Douche on July 30, 2010:
This is why I think that John Edward is a douche. He may argue that he hears voices of dead people in his head; however that's just called intuition. He needs to get over himself and let people know that he's playing a trick on people, however he can get a lot of money and fame. So he still argues that he gives people closure and a way of life, but really he is giving them false hope and a belief in something that isn't real. Since he trys to make people believe that he hears voices in his head he is also a stupid douche.
Even me, a 12 year old boy could do a psychic reading on someone. They use a "psychic" method called cold reading which has been used over hundreds of years to make people believe them. However some of his fans will just say things like "He is for real, because he knew my dead mother's name and when she died." Here is the technique to cold reading; I can say that I want to acknowledge the name "Peter". Somebody may say that their husband was called Peter, so I could then ask them "Does the month December mean anything significance to you?" That person could then say "Yes it's my Birthday in December." Then I would reply "He says Happy Birthday!” This gives me the applause from the audience and the fake reassurance I would of given that poor widow.
John Edward even has the whole studio wired to hear what people are talking about before the show, plus he sometimes pays actors to be on his shows as well.
John Edward may say that he gives people positive and gives them hope, so how does that make him a douche. I can answer that very simply with, because the big questions in life are "Why are we here?" "Where are we from?" "Where are we going?" If people believe in asshole, douchey liars like him then we are never going to find the real answers to those questions. He isn't just lying he's slowing down the progress of all mankind. What a douche.
Now at first I thought you people were all just stupid listening to this douche's advice, but now I understand it’s because you're scared. You want to believe in his lies because knowing that you're dead relatives are floating around everywhere trying to comfort you gives you hope, but think about it. Is that really what you would want? To float around when you're dead, having to talk with that asshole John Edward. We need to recognize life for what it is. Because what's really going on in life and death gives us the meaning of life, trying to find out what we're all doing here, and I think that's much more amazing and exciting than what that douche John Edward is saying.
There is nothing special about John Edward; he needs to get over himself.

I saw John in Columbus OH a week ago. We did not sign anything, there were no microphones or any of his assistants lurking beforehand. In one of his readings he even got the name of their dog "Butch". The only disappointment for me was in not being chosen for a reading. I still enjoyed watching the people that received theirs and the comfort that it brought to them.

I have to say the only psychics that convince me are The Psychic Twins and medium Lisa Williams. They are amazing at what they do, and they prove the gift on TV and radio all the time. Check these women out. They are the real deal.

I watched his show the other day and TV, and I have to admit that he uses this tactic quite often in his show. He guesses. I believe he is a fraud, a scam artist. I believe that Lisa Williams, or Mia Dolan are real mediums.

This is a great story, debunking psychic mediums and getting inside their heads to see what really goes on.
It is set in a TV studio during the filming of a psychic medium show...

There are a lot of you out there that are cutting down the psychics and mediums...yet you can't spell worth beans. That tells me how ignorant and closed minded you are. there are things out there that are beyond us...have you ever lost a loved one that was close to you? have you ever wished to have one more chance for them to let you know that they're ok? even if you think the psychic is a fraud, if they were to give you that one last chance, wouldn't you take it? wouldn't you feel comforted by it? i know i would. i have never been to any psychic shows...yet. i plan on going though, just so i can see first hand the powers that they have. because i do think that they have powers...i don't care what the rest of you skeptics think...that's my opinion and that's all that matters to me. i am planning on going to see john edward in portland in august. i am looking forward to it. i am hoping that i will get a message from my grandparents...but if i don't that's ok too. that just means that they are all good and don't need to tell me anything else. i am very excited about seeing john.

I wish this kind of thing were really possible; I can imagine millions of people need/want that opportunity to talk to someone, even just one more time.

Seeing psychic Tony Stockwell last yr changed my life!..After 17yrs of going to church hoping 4 comfort & receiving none... I was drawn 2 his event locally & in front of an audience of 410 he straight way brought my mother thru with endless validations, loads of info, even reminding me of things I'd 4gotten.He didn't know me or the fact I was coming that night..but what I did do was summit I'd never before done..I spoke aloud out to my mother in the house saying this was the only time I was gonna visit a Medium & if she was around,to plz let me know.I said the opening time of the Mediumship performance & guess what?Mother came thru on the dot!asking me about 2 things presently going on in my life!.Such utter relief & joy 4 me!tinged with some annoyance I'd taken any notice of certain old testament readings about contacting the dead..as Tony Stockwell confirmed..when something is done in love...yes absolutely! his night was warm & loving! no funny sweating dramas, just humble and warm.God bless people with this precious gift! The world needs you! Lynne Murch

Why does he have such trouble relaying the name of the dead person yet he has no trouble relaying messages from them?

Heidi, where did you come up with this "That is the law of the universe" stuff? Did you make it up? Did you hear it from aliens? Were you abducted when they told you about it? Were you also abducted by elves and fairies? Did the elves and fairies use an anal probe on you when they told you about the law of the universe?
How did you accidentally end up at a psychic? Did the psychic use her mind to lure you there?
Where did you hear that John Edward gives all his money to help other people in other countries? Did aliens tell you this?

recently my partner was misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, medicated and incarcerated. These findings were false. They had to medicate her to get her off the meds they had given her. Apologies were made, so sad too bad. Is this Psychiatrist and others in the community frauds. does this make psychiatry fake. The government backs up this system so dont bother fighting it or trying to disprove it pick on someone trying to help using methods other than overmedication. Try sueing a psychiatrist for misdiagnosis.

I, too, was at a taping in Queens before the show was cancelled. Myself, my mother, and my aunt were very careful to talk about neutral things while in line. By the way, he doesn't immediately start shooting things off like it shows on TV. The place was FREEZING while he meditated for 10 minutes on stage, standing quietly with his eyes closed.
I went in as a skeptic and didn't tell anybody how I felt but I personally focused on him the entire time he meditated, doing visualization techniques (which I've never done, was expirementing) and he immediately shot up to my group w/o asking vague questions, like the cold reading you're referring to. Although I didn't understand anything he was saying, we were able to validate everything after we left, including finding the exact photograph he referenced when speaking of my dead grandmother. Not a fake....
And to be honest, those 10-15 folks that were read? That literally took 3 hours. So people complaining that they weren't read so 'obviously' it's a fake....who has that kind of time?
