Indian Film Actresses 3 - With Chitrangada Singh, Celina Jaitley, Dimple Kapadia, Charmi, Dia Mirza and more
Here we are with my third article about the beautiful women of Indian cinema.
Like the two before it, this article has some actresses you may know, and some you may not be so familiar with.
And like the other two, this one not only has Bollywood actresses, but actresses from Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada films as well.
You probably wouldn't associate a name like Carol Gracias with Indian cinema, but she was born on December 28th, 1978 in Mumbai, India.
Carol has only appeared in two films so far, and she was on Bigg Boss, the Indian version of Celebrity Big Brother, in season one, where she came in first runner up.
But Carol is really famous for an "accident" that makes Janet Jackson's Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show controversy look tame in comparison.
At the 2006 Lakme India Fashion Week in Mumbai, Carol was going down the catwalk when her halter top slipped off, and since she wasn't wearing a bra.....
Well you get the point.
The incident ignited a firestorm with some of the public accusing the organizers of doing it on purpose.
The matter went before the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, and members condemned the organizers of the show.
Then Prakash Rajdev, a social activist, lodged a complaint against the organizers of the Lakme India Fashion Week and all the models involved that prompted a a local court to order police to investigate the incident.
Indian actress and former Femina Miss India Universe (2001) Celina Jaitley was also not born in India, but in Kabul, Afghanistan on November 24th, 1981.
Celina made her acting debut in the 2003 film Janasheen.
Since then she has appeared in nineteen films.
The rumored Hollywood film, The Quest of Scheherazade, that she was supposed to co-star with Sean Connery and Orlando Bloom in, seems to be just that, a rumor.
Indian film actress Charmy Kaur was born on May 17th, 1987 in Vasai, Mumbai, India.
She is also known as Charmee, Charmy or Charmi.
Charmi made her acting debut in the 2003 Telugu film Nee Thodu Kaavali.
She has gone on to appear in over thirty Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada films.
Charmi won the Santosham Best Actress Award in 2005 and the 2005 CineMAA Award for Best Actress for her role as Sahasra in the Telugu film, Anukokunda Oka Roju.
In 2007, she won the Nandi Award for Best Actress for her role as Mantra in the Telugu film, Mantra.
Chitrangada Singh was born on March 28th, 1982 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India.
She started out as a model, then began acting in music videos, then moved into acting.
Chitrangada made her acting debut in the 2005 film, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi as Geeta Rao.
The film was actually made in 2003, but it wasn't released until 2005.
She has been nominated for the Apsara Award for Best Actress (2005), the Zee Cine Award for Most Promising Debut - Female (2005), the Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer - Female (2006) and she won the 2006 Bollywood Movie Award for Best Female Debut.
Deepa Sahi is an Indian actress, screen writer and producer who specializes in Alternate Hindi Cinema.
She was born in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India and later when her family moved to Canada, she stayed in her homeland.
Deepa made her acting debut in the 1984 film Party, directed by Govind Nihalani.
Party had a huge ensemble cast comprised of the leading actors in Parallel Cinema or Art Cinema.
As an actress, Deepa appeared in fourteen films, but then turned her attention to producing.
Besides producing seven movies, she has produced 12 TV series.
Deepika Padukone is another actress that I have done several entries on.
She was born on January 5, 1986, not in India, but in Copenhagen, Denmark, though her family moved to India when she was less than a year old.
While Deepika was in high school, she played badminton at the state level which is only fitting considering her father Prakash Padukone was the the first Indian to win the All England Open Badminton Championship in 1980.
Deciding not to become a pro badminton player, Deeplka went into modeling, then acting.
She made her acting debut in the 2006 Kannada movie Aishwarya (not about Aishwarya Rai, it was actually based on the American film Memento).
Deepika went on to appear in twelve films and has been nominated for a lot of awards.

Actress, model and TV star Deepti Bhatnagar (also spelled Dipti Bhatnagar) was born on September 30, 1967 in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India.
She made her acting debut in the 1995 film Ram Shastra, and went on to appear in fifteen films.
One of those films was the 1997 film Inferno with Don "The Dragon" Wilson that has the infamous "Waterfall scene".
She also hosted Yatra, a religious travel guide television show.
Tamil film actress Devayani was born on June 22nd, 1974 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
Although mainly a Tamil star, she has appeared in Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali films as well.
She has appeared in over fifty Tamil films, ten Malayalam films, three Hindi films, one Bengali film and four Telugu films.
Dia Mirza was born on December 9th, 1981 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
She was the second runner up at Femina Miss India 2000 and she won the Miss Asia Pacific 2000 pageant.
Dia made her acting debut in 2001 film, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein.
This lovely young lady has gone on to appear in over forty films.
Dimple Kapadia was born on June 8th, 1957.
In 1973, she married actor Rajesh Khanna and they had two daughters who both became actresses, Twinkle Khanna and Rinke Khanna.
Dimple made her acting debut in the 1973 film, Bobby.
She went on to appear in over seventy films, and is still acting today.
As a matter of fact, she was just nominated for the 2009 Filmfare Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Female) Award for her role as the pushy stage mother Neena Walia, in Luck By Chance.
Indian actress Divya Dutta was born on September 25th, 1977 in Ludhiana, Punjab, India.
She made her acting debut in the 1994 film, Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna and has gone on to appear in over sixty films so far.
