I have been playing the harmonica off and on for almost 60 years. It was self taught and I am not even sure if I am doing it right. I have a Hohner Echo Tremolo harmonica made in Germany. I was looking for a good song book but just can't seem to find one. I decided to write one.

The harmonica is an odd instrument. It is an instrument that can be played by anyone yet it is not as popular as a guitar or a flute. One of the limitation of the harmonica is the range. It can only be played with certain tunes. It lacks some notes. More importantly, the way it is constructed, with inhale and exhale notes, some songs just cannot be easily played if not impossible. The transition from inhale to exhale is just not suitable for certain tunes. Lastly, some of the low and high notes are not well formed. It is the limitation of the reeds that makes up the harmonica.

There are certain songs that play well on the harmonica. These are the songs I list here. Hopefully, it will help other players to practice and promote the instrument to a wider audience.

One advantage of the harmonica is the size. It is small and fits in a pocket. It can go anywhere and it is good to past the time. It is not very loud and can be enjoyed by one and a few close friends.

My Preference

I like the Hohner Echo Tremolo 2509-C. It has 48 holes in two rows. It is in the key of C.

I love playing the harmonica. There is also a side benefit. It helps you control your breathing. For people with asthma allergies, or COPD, playing the harmonica can help. It will build up your lung capacity.
