Weight Loss Motivation: Good Movies to Watch While You are Trying to Lose Weight

Nancy is an everyday woman with a love for staying active, participating in sports, and outdoor activities.

Good Movies Lift Your Spirit

It is true that watching a really good movie can inspire you and cause you to feel uplifted and positive. Like you can do anything, be anything you want to do or to be.

The flip side is that a film can also bring up feelings about past hurts, which can put you in a very vulnerable place emotionally.

When you are dieting to lose weight, it is important to look for ways to relax that do not lead to food. We all need time to unwind and let our imagination take us where it will. Watching a movie, while often associated with snacking, is a form of entertainment that can fit into your weight loss journey easily and harmlessly. All you have to do is get some healthy snacks and kick back and watch one of these movies to amp up your inspiration and determination to stay the course.

Miss Congeniality with Sandra Bullock

This movie is worth watching over and over. If you haven't seen it, it is about a female FBI agent who is fashion backward. A case comes up in which she is ordered to go under cover competing in a beauty pageant. There are laughs galore, as well as an exploration of what it really means to be a beautiful woman. What I really like about this movie, and why it is so motivating for sticking with a weight loss plan, is that Sandra Bullock has a unique ability to step from the big screen right into your living room. She is able to portray the girl next door with a sense of realism that can only come from very honest acting.

Add to that the fact that Ms. Bullock is always listed near the top for her fitness. One of the best bodies in Hollywood. And even if she does have personal trainers and nutritionists, she still has to put in the work to look like she does. And that leads me to my favorite part of this movie, which is when everyone gets their first look at this dowdy agent after her beauty transformation. Very motivating and uplifting.

A Picture of Health: Jennifer Aniston

Just Go With It Starring Jennifer Aniston

The reason this is such a good diet movie is because you can laugh out loud while remembering the fact that Aniston also is known for keeping her body in shape. Just seeing her in top physical condition as she approaches middle age is an inspiration to all of us. It takes effort to keep the muscle tone and you can tell she really works out.

What I like about this movie is that it is a romance without being a tragedy. In this movie, Jennifer plays a working mom, just like you and me. She and her boss participate in a crazy, laugh-out-loud plan to help him impress the girl of his dreams. Along the way you will howl with hilarity as they get themselves into and out of some really sticky situations.

My favorite part of this movie is dance contest. It motivates me to keep tightening those tummy muscles.

Sylvester Stallone

A health and fitness icon. Nobody does it better than Stallone.

The Expendables: Stallone and Other Action Heroes

Expendables one, two, or three can be particularly motivating while you are on a diet. In these movies, Stallone has gathered together many of our aging action movie stars such as Chuck Norris, Bruce Willis, and even Schwarzenegger for these fun movies.

Each of these Expendable movies is based around the lives of aging tough guys. They are action-packed and even offer some good humor as well. These movies divert your attention with the fast pace and you get to see how exercise and good food has kept these handsome men strong and fit all these years. It gets you thinking about how it really is possible to stay healthy and fit as you age. And all of these men are a walking advertisement for what eating a healthy diet can do for you.

Again, we all know that these people can afford to pay someone to cook up their food and watch their nutrition, but they still have to eat the food and do the exercise to keep their bodies in good shape.

For these movies I don't really have a favorite part. I just enjoy them as they unfold.

Kevin Costner Visits Air Force Base

Tin Cup with Kevin Costner

This movie is surprisingly motivating, no matter what life situation you are in. It is a great date movie, as well as being a great diet movie. For those of you who have not yet seen this one, put it on your list.

Kevin Costner plays a down and out golf pro living in the middle of nowhere. His side-kick, Cheech Marin, plays the golf caddy and all around good guy. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so let me just say that this is one movie you have to watch to understand how motivating it can be to watch someone fail. You will cheer right along with the crowd, and you will walk away feeling like you can accomplish anything you set your mind to do.

While I absolutely loved the ending of the movie, I think my favorite part was golf contest between the character played by Don Johnson and Costner.

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read my work. I lost 70 pounds and have kept it off for a couple of years. Then disaster struck and I had a foot injury that has taken about 15 months to heal up. I spent a lot of time watching movies during that time, and found that some really great movies brought me down into a vulnerable emotional state and others lifted me up. So that was the inspiration for this hub.

Thank you for stopping by, Mr. Buc! There are truly movies to stay away from when dieting. At least that is true for me.
