GH Murses Ball 2017

GH Murses Ball 2017

Six decades of daytime entertainment

General Hospital is one of only three remaining daytime dramas left on network television. The others are The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful on CBS. A fourth soap, Days of Our Lives left NBC this past summer and now can be viewed on the Peacock streaming service. GH was the brainchild of husband and wife team Frank and Doris Hursley and premiered on ABC on April 1, 1963. Doris died on May 5th, 1984 and Frank passed away on February 3rd, 1989. This beloved soap began as a 30-minute black and white show with limited commercial interruptions and the ads were basically for laundry detergent which is where the name "Soap Opera" was derived. The storylines in those early days were centered around Dr. Steve Hardy (John Bernadino) the chief of Internal medicine and his good friend Nurse Jesse Brewer ( Emily McLaughlin). Steve later married Audrey Marsh (Rachel Ames) and they were the backbone of the hospital for many decades. General Hospital now is in living color and one hour long but because of so many commercials the fans only get to see a little over 30 minutes of action in Port Charles.

General Hospital facts

The theme songs for General Hospital have evolved over the decades and you can listen to them all by clicking on the following video link. As I listened to each one and watched the video I felt sadness for all the characters who are no longer a part of the landscape. GH has had two spin-off series Port Charles and General Hospital Night Shift. There are no direct descendants of the Hardy family in Port Charles at this time but the Webber family continues practicing medicine. Jeff Webber (William Moses) arrived in town in 1976and his daughter Elizabeth Weber (Rebecca Herbst ) is a nurse. The Quartermain clan ruled Port Charles but at this time the mansion is filled with people whose last name is not Quartermain or is only a relation through blood. Jane Elliot (Tracy Quarteremaine) is supposed to return to the ABC soap this spring in honor of the 6 decade celebration and she will certainly bring dram with her..

The Nurses Ball returns and a tribute will be made

General Hospital is teasing that some fan favorites will return this spring when the annual Nurses Ball is back in action. Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring who spearheads the annual event has been kidnapped by Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy and everyone is hoping she will escape or be rescued just in the nick of time to make a spectacular unexpected appearance at the gala. GH will also have a tribute episode to Sony Eddy (Epiphany Johnson) who died in December as the result of an infection after surgery.

Who will return for the Nurses Ball

No names have been given yet as to which popular characters will show up but viewers are hoping to see Robin Scorpio Drake ( Kimberly McCullough) Emma Drake and ( Brooklyn Rae Silzer). McCullough has been busy directing and has not portrayed Robin for many years. She di make an appearance on GH for one episode a few years back for the memorial service for Sean Donnelly ( John C Reilly). Fans say it would be nice to see Derk and Drew Cheatwood return as siblings Max and Milo Giambetti for the Nurses Ball and also hope Felix Dubua (Mark Anthony Samuel) will also make an appearance. Lucy began the ball in 2013 and every year something spectacular happens that disrupts the gala. With all the changes that have happened in daytime television over the years, GH has continued to keep the hospital relevant to what is going on in Port Charles. Epiphany was the head nurse and at times sit seemed she ran things including the doctors. She always sang at the Nurses Ball and will be greatly missed. Be on the lookout for updates related to what will be taking place the first week in April when the GH Nurses Ball returns after a two-year haitus.
