Movie Review: Batman and Robin

My name is Nathan and I am a very big film buff who loves the art of cinema

"Batman and Robin," follows the title heroes of the film Batman (George Clooney) and Robin (Chris O’Donnell) taking on Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to stop his plan from freezing Gotham City to hold the city hostage in exchange for funding to cure his terminally ill wife. Teaming up with Mr. Freeze is Poison Ivy (Uma Thurman) who plans on taking over the world with plants and her henchman Bane (Robert Swenson). A subplot includes the heroes alter-egos Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson dealing with their butler Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Gough) falling sick and the arrival of his niece Barbara (Alicia Silverstone).

This movie is truly an abomination to superhero movies that should have never seen the light of day. The cast of the film give terrible performances in the film but you can't really entirely blame them as they were given a script that didn't give them much to work on with their talents. Arnold Schwarzenegger gives an over the top performance as Mr. Freeze with many puns and one liners thrown out during the course of the film. Poison Ivy is a character whose motivations don't seem to align much with Mr. Freeze as ice freezes up plants which need sunlight in order to thrive while her henchman Bane is portrayed as a mindless brute. George Clooney looks entirely out of place playing Batman who looks like he doesn't want to be there filming the movie. The look and tone of the film is very ridiculous as Batman and Robin are given suits with nipples and features closeups of their butts and crotches when they are suiting up along with their gadgets which include a Bat credit card and ice skates built into their suits.
