Katie Price is a former glamour model who has become a well-known buinesswoman, author, TV personality and equestrian celebrity. She is well known for her marriage to former pop singer Peter Andre and a number of reality TV shows that were based around this relationship.

Katie began riding when she was a child and she was given a pony. She says that her funniest moment on horses was when she rode naked through her garden with her cousin.

Her earliest equestrian hero was the famous show jumper John Whittaker while Katies advice is simply to 'go for it'.The model says that being around horses takes her mind off work, and she 'loves it' - including the fresh air and mucking out.

From having lessons every Saturday when she was a youngster, Katie has gone on to compete in a number of dressage competitions. On her debut in 2008 she came sixth out of 27 riders at Hickstead showjumping ground in Sussex. There were even suggestions then that she could compete in the Olympics.

Deborah Meaden is a businesswoman on the BBC show Dragons' Den. She began riding horses when she was six years old and her mother took her to Minehead where there were ponies on the beach. She was later allower to ride them and became 'besotted'.

Deborah was later given a Welsh mountain cob when she was 16 which was bought for £60. She says he was very 'bolshy but full of character' and liked to bolt through low-hanging braches.

The businesswoman advises people who are considering taking up horse riding to first of all ensure that they have good balance and secondly be comfortable around horses.

Tara Palmer Tomkinson is a well-known socialite in England. She has had public battles with drugs and alcohol.

Tara was first given a pony by her father who had bought it from the circus when she was aged five. She said that she rode the pony through her home.

The socialite says that there is a 'fine line' between animals and man, and that it is a 'rewarding challenge' to be so close to a horse. She was trained briefly by eventer Mark Todd and Oliver Townend for an Express Eventing celebrity jump off against Jodie Kidd in 2008.
