Introduction to Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal - Actors on Actors Review

When this interview appeared as a recommendation for me to watch on youtube, I instantly clicked on it. I had recently watched the Netflix miniseries Halston, and was curious as to how Ewan McGregor who played the title role, thought of his own performance.

The other actor who was also being interviewed plays the Mandalorian, the popular Disney Plus miniseries. To be honest, initially, I had no idea who he was since I have not watched the second season of the Mandalorian.

However, both interviews proved to be not only interesting but informative as well and was worth my time to watch. If you have not yet done so, you too may be interested in watching the Actors on Actors interview with Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal.

Chemistry Between Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal During the Interview

I wanted to form my own opinions about this interview so i tried to refrain from checking the comments. That being said, I could not help but notice that a commenter stated that Pedro Pascal seemed to be starstruck and somewhat nervous while interviewing Ewan McGregor, better known as Obi-Wan Kenobi on the blockbuster movies Star Wars.

I also noticed a hint of nervousness on the part of Pedro Pascal, who I must admit is not as well known as Ewan McGregor. Add to the fact that the Netflix miniseries, Halston had just aired, I'm sure he may have been a little flustered to be interviewing such a huge star -- at least when compared to himself.

A plus was the interview was streamed with Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal interviewing each other via a screen rather than face to face as this series is usually done. I think that Pedro Pascal would have been even more nervous if the interview was held in person with him sitting within inches from the Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi and Halston star -- Ewan McGregor.

By contrast, Ewan McGregor seemed at ease all the time as he sat in a rather rugged looking chair, with a bed shown in the background with ruffled sheets. Of course if you watched this interview, you may glance at his surroundings as he was being interviewed, but nine times out of ten, your attention would quickly revert to Ewan McGregor.

I got the impression that Pedro Pascal may have been in a hotel room, or somewhere other than his own home during this interview. By contrast, his surrounding did not give you the "homey" feel or look but the essence of a sparsely lighted hotel room.

The above being said, I did not sense a lot of chemistry between the two interviewees. In other words they did not seem to become "best buddies" during the interview. Pedro Pascal seemed overly starstruck which may have diminished any interview chemistry the two could have had.

Was the Interview between Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal Fifty-Fifty?

If you watch the interview, it will become obvious that Ewan McGregor is the bigger star and as such, I believe he was given more time to talk about whatever he wanted to. If he went off topic of the movies he made or will make, I think that would have been fine with Pedro Pascal.

At the beginning of the interview, Pedro Pascal was the interviewer and Ewan McGregor was the interviewee. Immediately I could tell that Pedro Pascal had indeed watched the Netflix miniseries, Halston, starring Ewan McGregor simply by the questions he asked

In other words, the questions Pedro Pascal asked did not seem scripted. As he asked questions about the Halston miniseries, I could almost see him visually going back in his mind and watching the particular segments he was inquiring about.

Ewan McGregor seemed happy to provide information about not only the Netflix miniseries, Halston, but he answered questions about his role in Star Wars as well as his interest and sometimes fascination with other characters in the movie.

Specifically, he talked about how when he was on the set of Star Wars, he did not have the opportunity to work with the Storm Troopers. Therefore when he actually saw Storm Troopers on set, he became like a little kid in the candy store. He was really in awe of them.

Personally, I thought this was a humbling revelation on his part because usually some movie stars or celebrities may think that everything revolves around them and would care less about other characters or actors in the film, unless it is a benefit to them.

In regards to the interview being fifty-fifty between the two actors -- the interview questions between Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal leaned heavily towards Ewan McGregor. I'm sure this was not a disappointment to the viewers, especially since Ewan McGregor had been out of the spotlight for sometime. Seeing him back on the big screen was probably a huge plus for Star Wars fans.

Was the Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal Interview an Ideal Actors on Actors Match-Up?

I believe the gist of the Actors on Actors series is to conduct an interview with your actor peers instead of someone who is not in the business. Pedro Pascal, who plays the role of the Mandalorian, is of course working inside the film industry. Therefore he fits the bill of being qualified to interview Ewan McGregor, who appears to be more established in the business than he is.

That being said, even though he seemed nervous, I do not think the notoriety of Ewan McGregor deterred Pedro Pascal from asking and answering questions. To his credit, he seemed as if he actually wanted to know the answers to some of the questions he asked.

Since both are from popular streaming miniseries, personally, I believe the match-up of Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal was a fair one. However, as a viewer, I was more interested in the answers Ewan McGregor gave simply because he has more of a history in the movie industry and I am more familiar with him as well as his films -- more so than those of Pedro Pascal.

Commonalities between Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal

There are a few similarities between the two actors, Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal. For example, they both worked with Yoda in some form -- Ewan McGregor acted with the older Yoda and Pedro Pascal worked with baby Yoda whose name is Grogu.

They each talked about how they interacted with Yoda, whether it was the old or young Yoda. It was interesting to hear how they acted alongside the different verions of Yoda. They both acknowledged that they preferred to work with Yoda as puppets instead of the Computer-Generated Images (CGI) even though there were advantages in using CGI. For example, emotions can be easily displayed using CGI rather than on puppets.

According to Ewan McGregor there is a sense of comradery between himself and Yoda, the puppet, operated by a human of course. He admitted that he missed this connection when Yoda was eventually replaced by CGI images.

Other similarities is the age factor of the actors. They are from the same generation. However, since Ewan McGregor started acting before Pedro Pascal and is more well-known, he seemed more confident to me.

I noticed that topics discussed by Ewan McGrego were not mirrored by Pedro Pascal with the exception of the puppets discussion. For example, when Ewan McGregor discussed how the miniseries Halston was started, Pedro Pascal did not counter with an explanation of how the Disney plus series Mandalorian got its start.

There were other topics that were discussed that Pedro Pascal either did not talk about maybe because of confidential clauses or non-disclosures that they both are faced with when working in the movie or film industry.

The Dream Team Actor on Actor Interview - Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen

Some people are saying they wish this was an actor to actor interview with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen instead of Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal. I agree that the two prior Star Wars stars would be the ideal match up to interview each other, especially since they worked together in some Star War movies.

But do not fret. I discovered that either in the latter part of 2021 or 2022, there will be a match up with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen acting together again. There is talk of an upcoming miniseries where Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen will reprise their roles in Stars Wars -- which will stream on Disney Plus. There is no talk of an Actors on Actors segment with the actors to follow -- but if one does, I will be all for it.

The draw of the Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal Actors on Actors interview was without a doubt the appearance of Ewan McGregor of Star Wars fame.

Assessment of the Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal Actors on Actors Interview

The draw of the Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal Actors on Actors interview was without a doubt the appearance of Ewan McGregor of Star Wars fame. I liked that he was honest about his past, including drug obstacles he overcame previously. He also mentioned that he was happy that the drugs that were displayed in the movie, Halston, were not real.

I was surprised that he did not discuss maybe the controversial part of him playing a gay man. In fact they both seemed to skirt around questions of this nature and instead, talked about the mannerisms of Halston including the way he spoke.

Of course, they both have agents, so I'm sure they may have been steered away from this discussion and maybe this omission was not of their own choosing. I think the interview would have been well-rounded if these attributes about Haltston were discussed as well.

Regarding Pedro Pascal starring as the Mandalorian, unfortunately, he had to take a step behind baby Yoda better known as Grogu. It's not a surprise that Grogu became so popular that his image is on just about anything that can be sold. Even during this interview, he seemed to outstage the actor, Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian.

I think the interview would have been more interesting if Pedro Pascal talked about how he got selected for the role of the Mandalorian and if he was happy with his decision to play this character.

The above being said, I enjoyed this Actors on Actors interview with Ewan McGregor and Pedro Pascal. If you get the chance to watch it, I think you will too.
