Elvis Presley - Haiku

Hips were a swaying
The women were a swooning
We were all cooing

Elvis is the King
Like a puppet on a string
He wore lots of bling

Graceland was his home
Memphis was the stars city
His aura was bliss

In August he died
Elvis had left the building
Never to return

Jan 8th 1935 - Aug 16th 1977

Jan 8th 1935 - Aug 16th 1977

A fab Dad he was
Lisa Marie was his gem
Resemblence is fact

He would croon his song
Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog
we cried all the time

A sexy lip curl
Jumpsuit and jewel studded cape
Oh, suspicious minds

Movies and music
Thirty three successful films
Brought Elvis to life

Gladys, Vernon's son

King of Rock and Roll

Fans still miss him so

What's your favorite Elvis memory?

MG Singh from UAE on April 13, 2014:

Elvis is one of my favorites. he was The King and will live forever. Thanks for reminding all of us.

Suzie from Carson City on April 12, 2014:

Just as they continue to say Elvis still too, your Haiku will live on forever!!

Well it's one for the money...two for the show....three to get go cat go!!!

moonlake from America on April 12, 2014:

So nice had to vote up. Always wanted to go to Vegas to see Elvis but didn't make it in time.

Audrey Hunt from Pahrump NV on April 12, 2014:

Back for another visit. If anyone asked me if a Haiku could be written about Elvis, I would tell them no way. I should have know that here in hubland lives a ray of Sunshine who can do anything when it comes to writing!

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on April 09, 2014:

Sunshine, I am a big Elvis fan and you had me trapped like "a puppet on a string". Loved your haiku. Well done.

Nithya Venkat from Dubai on April 09, 2014:

Came back to read again! A great tribute to Elvis and enjoyed reading your haiku.

Nell Rose from England on January 08, 2014:

I came back for another read! long live the King! lol!

Eli@coachdaddy on January 08, 2014:

Ever heard Ingrid Michaelson's cover of "Can't Help Falling in Love with you?" I have to stop working whenever it comes on my Pandora. It's amazing how his work and music live on through new artists now, and it's a testament to the fact that his music will never die.

Francisco on July 29, 2013:

I didn't understand your reply, but reidang your profile I see you've remastered these videos. Well done, Something sounds great. I'm a home musician and know how hard mixing and mastering is. Proper mastering is beyond me but I often put old recordings through a bit of compression and add gain.

Sannel on March 28, 2013:

Wow, this is such a wonderful Elvis tribute in the form of haiku. Very ingenious and quite brilliant!

Thank you,

Mary Hyatt from Florida on March 28, 2013:

Elvis will live forever through his music. Did you ever hear the song he wrote for his Mother, "Mama loved the Roses"?

Great Hub. I enjoyed your Haiku, too. Voted UP and shared.

quicksand on March 27, 2013:

When I was five years old, I was introduced to Elvis via the album GI Blues. "That gentleman dressed up like a soldier" was indeed very handsome! He was truly blessed with extreme good looks and a voice that can never ever be matched. I also think that the soundtrack from the movie "Blue Hawaii" was the best ever soundtrack for all time.

Great article indeed! Cheers!

AudraLeigh on March 27, 2013:

He would croon his song

Ain't Nothing But A Hound Dog

we cried all the time

That is my favorit haiku in the midst of all the other great nes! Loved how you used / chose your own words and incorporated them with his song titles...clever! Nice tribute to you friend at the end too :)

I bet it would have been cool to see him live! My parents saw him in '76 at Buffalo! They said he was wonderful! What is your favorite song by him? Mine is in the Ghetto".

I loved this today!

Martie Coetser from South Africa on March 27, 2013:

I can never get enough of Elvis!

Who does not like Suspicious Minds?

Sunshine, this is a lovely tribute to Elvis :)

Daisy Mariposa from Orange County (Southern California) on March 27, 2013:

I'd like to see you write more haiku about celebrities. This article is terrific!

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on February 14, 2013:

The King will always live in our hearts and rock n roll souls!

LJ Scott from Phoenix, Az. on February 12, 2013:

Elvis was one of my favorites from childhood... very well done

What to say about the King of rock 'n' roll eh!? Excellent job Linda... Voted up and funny and awesome.

Stephanie Henkel from USA on January 09, 2013:

This brings back some great memories of Elvis! I saw his debut on the Ed Sullivan show on a little black and white TV. Later, danced to his songs at the high school sock hops...oh, my, was there anything more romantic for a teenage girl than slow dancing with her boyfriend to "Love Me Tender"? Elvis lives on in many hearts!

Audrey Hunt from Pahrump NV on January 08, 2013:

Do you know what "The King" is doing right now?

He's singing "You are my Sunshine." Elvis style with a bump and grind just for you! :)

iguidenetwork from Austin, TX on January 08, 2013:

Like the haiku very much. In just a few words they really sum up Elvis' greatness.

His reign still lives on... :)

Nithya Venkat from Dubai on January 08, 2013:

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on January 08, 2013:

Dana ~ Mary ~ Gwen ~ CrisSp ~ Vincent ~ Teaches ~ MrsBKay ... Thank you all for stopping by to wish Elvis a Happy Birthday and to share your memories. He's gone, but never forgotten.

Britney from Southern California on January 08, 2013:

Cool! I work in an elementary classroom and we were designing our bulletin board with January holidays. We had a list and as I read "Elvis's Birthday" each one would give me a blank stare and ask, "Who's that?" Ah, youth!

Vincent Moore on January 08, 2013:

Yes indeed a brilliant haiku tribute to the King of Rock N Roll. He has always been my idol, I grew up listening to the King and loved his music. I was shocked when I heard of his death, he would be 78 if he was alive today. To be honest, I'm happy in a way he went as a younger man. I know he's a rockin on the other side, hope to be able to listen to him when I cross over to. Voted Up and shared Ms Sunshine.

CrisSp from Sky Is The Limit Adventure on January 08, 2013:

Love Elvis, love haiku! This is fantastic! I enjoyed it.

Up and sharing!

Thank you, thank you very much (in Elvis tone)!

dreamseeker2 on January 08, 2013:

I loved all of Elvis's songs, including gospel and Christmas. I also was an avid follower of his movies as a kid. : ) My dad didn't like him, of course. he thought he was vulgar. But...we girls...loved him!! : ) Thanks for sharing your Haiku on him, the King of Rock n Roll!

Mary Hyatt from Florida on January 08, 2013:

Great Hub. There will never be another Elvis Presley. The song he wrote for his Mother "Mama Loved the Roses" is so beautiful, and not people have ever heard it. I loved all his songs.

I voted this UP, shared, Pinned and Tweeted.

Dana Strang from Ohio on January 08, 2013:

LOVE THIS. Highlights some of the best things about The King... and reminds me of my Step-Grandma. She loved Evis and her basement was like an Elvos shrine including an Elvis pillow and bust! We always thought it was so weird as kids. :)

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on January 08, 2013:

Nell, Richard, Michelle, Vinaya, Rajan...Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the King!

Happy 78th Birthday Elvis!

The second read gives more meaning to the great artist.

Rich from Kentucky on November 14, 2012:

There's a whole lotta shakin' goin' on up above as someone is cryin' in the chapel over the hound dog that's no longer enduring Kentucky Rain. But, you're too young to remember him! : ) Great job!

Michelle Liew from Singapore on September 24, 2012:

Had to pop in again to say the guy was a pro at making folks jive!

Hi Rich and Janine...Thank you for sharing your Elvis memories. I had just turned 15 years old and had tickets to see Elvis in concert at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island the following month. I was totally devastated. I'm excited because I was playing Elvis tunes the other day and Faith enjoyed the songs! Yay! :)

Janine Huldie from New York, New York on August 15, 2012:

I confess even though Elvis died only 2 short months after I was born in 1977, I have always been a bit obsessed with him. His music and movie career has always fascinated me. I even ended up picking his song, "Can't Help Falling in Love" for our wedding song. That said loved this haiku in honor of the king of rock and roll himself. Still cannot believe he is dead 35 years now! Also voted up and shared too, Linda!!

Rich from Kentucky on August 15, 2012:

Linda -

Great Haiku(s)!

Even I liked Elvis. I once told a barber that I wanted my hair cut like Elvis (I was very, very young). For some reason, I walked out with a flat top and a jar of pink cream to mold it each morning.

It's a shame he left us. My stock value in jelly donuts has never been the same. You might say it's failed to rise over the years.

Loved it! Great Hub!

Linda Bilyeu (author) from Orlando, FL on August 08, 2012:

Nice comment Effer. I'm sure Elvis the Pelvis would appreciate it, I know I do. I just wanna be your teddy bear... :)

Sunshine...A tribute to the KING!! To anyone who doesn't LOVE the King, I say, "Don't Be Cruel".....He was the best, even if he was in Blue Hawaii.....or anywhere in the world. If you don't bow down before the KING....You Ain't Nothin but a Hound Dog!

Great Haiku, GF!!! UP++

Justin W Price from Juneau, Alaska on January 22, 2012:

very nice, Linda. I've been to Graceland and it's kind of funny how unimpressive it is. My fave Elvis song is "Suspicious Minds"

Mary Craig from New York on January 11, 2012:

A great tribute to the Man. I saw him once as he was entering a concert (I was on the outside) and was hopelessly hooked. BTW I was 13 at the time. Saw "Love Me Tender" five times in one day at the movies; just stayed and re-watched. Great haiku bringing back great memories.

Joseph De Cross from New York on January 08, 2012:

He did it his way... until the last second of his breath. I have been lucky enough to live on his time, I'm 49. Mom and aunts loved him and..those hips too. Actually we can do some 'hipping around' The king! Thanks for you and the music you gave to the world! THANKS FOR THIS MAGNIFICENT HAIKU Linda!

Both he and you are "Always on my mind" and of course "He knows just what I need" He "Touched me". I know he can be a "Hound Dog" at times...but he knows how to "Love me Tender" Hope you and I never have to "Go our Separate ways". "You don't have to say you love me"....I know you I do you too!! I am so amazed at the "Wonder of You" Sunshine! Thank you!! xox
