The American Toy - Mr Potato Head
Mr. Potato Head is an American toy consisting of a plastic model of a potato which can be decorated with a variety of plastic parts that can attach to the main body. These parts usually include ears, eyes, shoes, a hat, a nose, and a mouth. The toy was invented and developed by George Lerner in 1949, and first manufactured and distributed by Hasbro in 1952.
Mr. Potato Head was the first toy advertised on television and has remained in production since its debut. The toy was originally produced as separate plastic parts with pushpins that could be stuck into a real potato or other vegetable. However, due to complaints regarding rotting vegetables and new government safety regulations, Hasbro began including a plastic potato body within the toy set.

Elvis Sings Gospel
The Gospel Music Elvis Presley heard in church and at the all-night gospel sings he frequently attended were to influence his music taste greatly.
He would also spend hours listening to the music and songs of the black artists of his time.
The combination of the music influences he had experienced as a child and teenager and his own style made his music unique.

Priscilla Beaulieu Presley
Priscilla Beaulieu Presley was born Priscilla Ann Wagner on the 24th May 1945 in Brooklyn, New York. Priscilla is an American model, author and actress and the only wife of Elvis Presley.
Her biological father, James Wagner, was a pilot who was killed in a plane crash when Priscilla was just an infant. Her mother, Norwegian-American Anna Lillian Iversen, then married Paul Beaulieu, a United States Air Force officer. Beaulieu took over the raising of Priscilla and is known as her father.
The Beaulieus were stationed in West Germany at the same time as Elvis during his stint in the United States Army.
Priscilla was 14 years old when she met Elvis in Wiesbaden. In Germany, Priscilla would hang out at the Eagles Club, a place for eating and entertainment. According to Priscilla, she'd often just listen to the juke box and write letters to her friends. One day, a handsome man looking somewhere in his mid twenties approached Priscilla.
His name was Currie Grant. He asked Priscilla, 'How'd you like to meet Elvis Presley? My wife and I are good friends of his'. Of course Priscilla agreed, and the night she was to meet Elvis, she wore a white and navy sailor dress.

Lisa Marie Presley and Elvis's granddaughter Riley Keough
Lisa Marie Presley (born February 1, 1968) is an American singer-songwriter. She is the only child of singer/actor Elvis Presley.
Lisa Marie Presley was born at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, exactly nine months after her parents' wedding. She lived at Graceland, Elvis' Memphis estate, until her parents separated in 1972. Following their separation and subsequent divorce, she divided her time between living at Graceland with her father and in Beverly Hills with her mother. This arrangement continued until her father died on August 16, 1977, after which she lived exclusively in Beverly Hills.
When her father died, Lisa Marie became joint-heir to his estate with her grandfather Vernon Presley and her great-grandmother Minnie Mae Presley. Following the deaths of Vernon in 1979 and Minnie Mae in 1980, Lisa became the sole heir and inherited Graceland. In 1993, on her 25th birthday, she inherited the estate, which had grown to an estimated $100 million.
As sole heir to Elvis' estate, Presley is the owner of Graceland, the Memphis mansion where her father lived, now a major tourist attraction. She has conducted a long career in the music business and has issued several albums and videos. Her work as vocalist and lyricist has ranged across country, blues and folk.
Lisa Marie Presley has been married four times. In 1988, she married musician Danny Keough, with whom she had a daughter and a son. She was then married to pop singer Michael Jackson and briefly to actor Nicolas Cage, before marrying music producer Michael Lockwood, with whom she has twin girls. In 2010, they moved to Tunbridge Wells, England.
Elvis Presley dies at his home in Memphis.
Elvis Presley completed his time in the army and returned to the United States in March 2, 1960.
He continued his music career and became the King of Rock and Roll. He sold over one million records during the course of his career.
His American sales have earned him gold, platinum or multi-platinum awards for 150 different albums and singles. He toured the USA and then the world performing magnificent live concerts.
Elvis Presley died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977.
He was suffering from multiple ailments. Glaucoma, high blood pressure, liver damage, and an enlarged colon.

Hi Rayne123 I never knew that but it does sound like Elvis alright he always kept himself 'grounded'. It's a pity we lost him so soon.
I did have a link to his daughter singing that song but the link got broken. I am not sure if you can put a link up on the comments box so I will go searching later on and I will put the link back up. I need to freshen up my hubs so this will be a good start.
In the Ghetto is a beautiful song I remember listen to it as a child and it always brought tears to my eyes.
Blessings to you also :-)
Rayne123 on October 19, 2013:
Did you know that when he was called the "king"he became upset . he looked up and said there is only one King.
I thought that was decent and genuine of him to give such respect to "our creator"
Did you see his daughter on Oprah with her daughter (elvis granddaughter) she did the duet her dad and a gospel choir singing
"in the ghetto" it was so heart warming, I almost cried. IF you want I can leave you the link here and maybe you can edit your hub and post it........only if you want

I love Elvis. Have to be honest though, one didn't know it was Elvis week myself and never knew they had a Mr. Potato head.
In the book his wife wrote "Elvis and Me" she mentions that he became even more famous the second time around. He was off stage for years before he performed the second time.
There is one video you have to see, he has a jam sessions and just few fans gather around the stage. His band and him jam to several songs and it is awesome. His voice so sexy and out of this world.
There is one gospel song I love (cant think of the name right now but will check it out)it is a beautiful upbeat song.
I for some reason would love to meet his daughter and his wife. I would also love to visit Graceland.
Thanks for great hub
Christine (author) from Dublin on November 19, 2012:
Hi thewritingowl welcome and thank you for taking the time to comment.
Yes I remember looking forward to Saturday Mornings, this would have been in the middle 70's to watch the Elvis Movies. I was fasinated with them.
My father and mother where great Elvis fans and I was brought up with his music always playing in the background. I love his music and have up to now not come across anyone close to his talent.
He also sings gospel music beautifully.
August is Elvis week. Maybe on of these days I might be able to travel to Graceland for it :-)
Thank you again for your comments and hopefully will catch you again along the road... Garlic Angel
Christine (author) from Dublin on November 19, 2012:
Hi sgbrown thank you for visiting and your kind comments. Yes I agree Elvis was an "exceptional" person. One of a kind I think. Besides his stunning good looks he was a very talented man. I do not think anyone has or every will come close to him. His voice was so amazing. I love his music and never tire of listening to it.
Yes it was such a waste to lose such a talented person so young :-(
Thank you again for your comments.. Garlic Angel
Mary Kelly Godley from Ireland on November 19, 2012:
I didn't know it was Elvis Presley week. My aunt and other relations were huge fans of his always and were very upset when he died. I remember seeing a lot of his films when I was young. Back in the day when Video Recorders first came out (God I am showing my age now) my parents got a copy of Blue Hawaii and we watched it in fascination many times. I think that was probably one of his better films and it made me interested in his life story. Must delve a bit deeper into his life story because I am sure he must have been very troubled underneath to die so young and having battled with so many addictions. His talent lives on though and he was one of a kind. Voted up.
Sheila Brown from Southern Oklahoma on November 19, 2012:
Very nice hub! Elvis was an exceptional person in his younger years. It is such a shame that he allowed himself to be taken down by his fame and fortune. There will never be anyone that comes close to Elvis! Voting up and interesting. :)

11/22, hello, Garlic Angel...Amazing read here! Voted up and away. Masterfully-written. Nicely-said and presented. Probably one of the best stories about Elvis and Lisa Marie I've read in years. YOU, my new friend, have gained a fan and a follower in ME. And I wish YOU a Happy Thanksgiving 2011 and Extend a Personal Invite to YOU to visit and read my hubs if you like to laugh. I would appreciate it if you would follow me too. That would be great! Higest Regards, Kenneth Avery, from a rural town, Hamilton, in northwest Alabama that resembles Mayberry, the sweet town on The Andy Griffith Show. I was so nice to have met YOU!

Hi resspenser thank you and welcome. Yes I came across that song, love me love the life I lead on youtube. I had never heard it myself and I must say it is a beautiful song. Mind you I think no matter what Elvis sings he can make anything sound good, he was such a great artist. It is a shame we lost him so soon..
I will indeed take a look at that hub, Time to face the music...
Thank you again for visiting and I hope to cross your path again soon...

Ronnie Sowell from South Carolina on July 01, 2010:
Love your hub! I thought i knew all the songs but I don't remember ever hearing: Love me, love the life I lead. Thanks for putting that one one here. Check out my hub (short story) when you get time: Time to Face The Music I think you will like it.
Christine (author) from Dublin on June 29, 2010:
Hi viking yes Elvis is for sure The King of Rock and Roll. It is such a shame we lost him so early in his life. He has left us with some great music though. To this day I don't think any other artist has come close to been as good as Elvis was/is. I love the old photo's myself, he was so handsome in his early years before he put on so much weight. I hated to see him going down hill like he did in the couple of years leading to his death.
I feel the same way about this Mr. Potato head launch for his anniversary. It does't seem appropriate! But then like I say I am sure Elvis will see the funny side of it.. I don't think I will be buying one myself..
Thank you for your comment and I hope the music brings you as much pleasure as it has for me.. Garlic Angel :-)
L M Reid from Ireland on June 27, 2010:
Listened to Elvis songs as a child all the time because my father loved his music. Enjoyed the hub and the old photos of Elvis.
Not too sure whether making Elvis a Mr Potato Head is a very good idea. As a fan I certainly would not buy one lol.
