Remember that time in the mid '90's when disaster movies were making a comeback? Volcanos and tornados seemed to be the big draw at the box office, but who would have thought that a few raindrops could reach such havoc?

Due to a heavy rainstorm and flooding, the small town of Huntingburg is evacuated. However, there are a few residents who've stayed behind.

Armored guard Tom (Christian Slater) and his Uncle Charlie (Ed Asner) are picking up their last haul from the bank before heading to higher ground. They have three million dollars on them, and Charlie wants to make sure that it gets into the right hands before the town is swept away.

Over at the bar, Jim (Morgan Freeman) and his merrymen are planning on robbing the armored car. He warns an overanxious Kenny (Michael Goorjian) to stop talking about money as his two other accomplices try to act cool. One of them is local teacher Mr. Mehlor (Dann Florek) and Ray (Ricky Harris).

Defying the evacuation order are Henry and Doreen (Richard Dysart and Betty White) who are setting traps in their house. Doreen tells Sheriff Collig (Randy Quaid) that they're not leaving since the last time the town flooded, looters made a field day of their house.

As Tom and his uncle leave town, they get stuck on a washed-out road and after calling for help, they wait patiently for the National Guard. When water starts to come into the cab, Tom thinks it's best to get the money and head for higher ground.

Once the two get out of the truck, they see headlights ahead of them and think help has arrived, but with Kenny being anxious, he shoots at them and kills Charlie.

In chest high water, Tom trudges through the water to get the money as Jim and his men figure out how to get to the truck. When they finally get there, Tom and the money are gone.

Tom manages to hide the money in a crypt at the cemetery while Jim and the others have broken into a store and have a boat and jet ski's. They end up chasing Tom through the school.

After managing to escape once more from Jim, Tom heads over to the church and while there he's knocked out with a crucifix. When he regains consciousness, he's in a call at the police station where he finds out that Karen (Minnie Driver) was the one who knocked him out.

Sheriff Collig is mad that she's stayed behind, but she's been restoring the stained glass at the church and was trying to save her work. He's also holding Tom as a looter, which even after telling him the story, he doesn't believe him.

Collig tells his deputy Phil (Peter Murnik) to take Karen to the evacuation center and on the way, she manages to get away from him. The sheriff and Wayne (Mark Rolston) go looking for Jim and his men leaving Tom alone in the jail.

With the water rising, dam supervisor Hank (Wayne Duvall) has to release some more water and a wall of water heads toward town.

Once the water hits, it rises faster in the jail and Tom notices a set of keys on the desk, but has a hard time getting them. Eventually the water is now up to the ceiling.

With the help of Karen, the two manage to escape and they end up climbing into the second floor of Henry and Doreen's house, where she holds them at gun point. Henry tells the two to take their boat, but Tom leaves Karen behind.

Back at the jail, the officers discover that Tom has escaped and the sheriff calls Hank to get down into the town since they have a situation. Hank tells him that he can't leave, but the sheriff reminds him that he had deputized him and to bring his gun.

Everyone manages to find their way into the cemetery where a shootout ensues and with three million dollars on the line, Tom learns that everyone wants a piece of the pie.

Wayne takes Karen hostage and heads back to her house where he handcuffs her to the banister. As the water continues to rise, he plans on raping her since he's always had a thing for her, but she's ignored him.

She manages to kill him and Tom gets to her just as the alarm for the dam goes off. Karen tells him that the dam is about to collapse and a much larger wall of water slams through town.

While this is primarily a disaster movie, the addition of the heist and who's who makes it really interesting and entertaining.

The chase on jet ski's through the school was original and claustrophobic as they maneuver through hallways and classrooms. I think it just added to the movie.

Of course, stealing the movie is foul mouthed, aggressive Betty White. She steals every scene she's and is basically the comic relief, since you have to scratch your head every now and then and ask yourself which character is good and who will they turn on next?

From start to finish, this really holds your interest and for disaster movie fans, it's very original.
