More and more daytime talk shows are coming to an end. There are at least seven daytime talk shows that are coming to an end after this season. The seven shows include:
- Nick Cannon
- The Real
- The Wendy Williams Show
- Dr. Oz's Spin-Off Show The Good Dish
- Judge Jerry
The above list includes two talk shows that have been canceled after only one season. One was canceled after eight seasons. Another is being canceled after four seasons. Two shows are coming to an end because of the hosts' decision and one is being replaced by another host.
Nick Cannon's daytime talk show has been canceled after only one season since it premiered in September 2021. Nick is disappointed, but he is not taking the cancellation too hard because he has been in show business long enough to know how it works. Therefore, he is not taking the cancelation of his show personally.
Initially, Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury was set to put Nick Cannon on a five-week hiatus so Nick could take care of his other obligations, including The Masked Singer and Wild ‘N Out. The organization reversed its original plan and Liongate's Debmar-Mercury decided to permanently cancel the show since the show was already struggling with low ratings.
Nick had taped enough episodes for the show to continue in syndication through the end of the season in May.
The Real has been canceled after eight seasons. Variety reported that Warner Bros. decided to end The Real after Fox declined to pick up the show for a ninth season. The company made it clear that its decision to end The Real has nothing to do with the launching of The Jennifer Hudson Show this fall.
The Real targeted a younger audience with young co-hosts. Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon, Tamera Mowry-Housley, Tamar Braxton, and Jeannie Mai were hosts of the show when it first launched on July 15, 2013. Tamar Braxton was a host for the first two seasons. She was never replaced. Tamera Mowry-Housley departed in 2020 after six seasons and was replaced by Garcelle Beauvais. The Real won three Daytime Emmy Awards and two NAACP Image Awards.
'The Wendy Williams Show'
Wendy Williams' recent health issues caused her talk show to be canceled after 13 seasons. She didn't host her own show at all during the last season. Instead, numerous guest hosts kept the show going by filling in for her.
Wendy battled COVID, Graves disease, and other health issues. Her show got along well without her, but it was an easy decision to permanently replace Williams with Sherri Shepherd who had been a favorite guest host on several occasions.
Shepherd will launch Sherri this fall in the time slot that is being left vacant by Wendy Williams.
'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'
The Ellen DeGeneres Show will end its daytime talk show after 19 seasons. However, it was not canceled. Ellen decided on her own that it was time for her to end the show.
Kelly Clarkson will take over Degeneres’ time slot after it ends on Thursday, May 26, 2022. Then Kelly Clarkson is set to move her show forward one hour into the time slot Ellen is leaving vacant.
The Jennifer Hudson Show is set to make its premiere this fall in fellow American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson's time slot.
Maury will end after 31 seasons as a daytime television talk show. Unlike Nick Cannon's one season, Maury Povich's show was not canceled. It was the decision of the 83-year-old host to retire later this year.
New episodes will run through September. After that, there will be plenty of reruns of the long-running syndicated show that became famous for its paternity results segment. Men would find out for sure if they were the fathers of children based on DNA tests.
'The Good Dish'
The Dr. Oz Show ended on January 14, 2022 after 13 seasons even though it was renewed to end in 2023. Dr. Mesmet Oz ended his show early because he is running for a Republican Senate seat in Pennsylvania. His show was replaced a few days later on most stations by the spin-off talk show, The Good Dish, on January 17, 2022.
The spin-off show is hosted by Dr. Oz's daughter Daphne Oz, a natural foods chef, Gail Simmons, a culinary expert, and chef Jamika Pessoa. The cooking show that aired in The Dr. Oz Show's time slot has been canceled after only one season just like Nick Cannon's show was also canceled after one season.
Sony TV is reportedly exploring options to continue The Good Dish via a streaming outlet or cable tv.
Judge Jerry has been canceled after four seasons. The arbitration-based reality show didn't last nearly as long as the Jerry Springer show that aired for 27 seasons from September 30, 1991 to July 26, 2018.
Judge Jerry premiered in September 2019 as a syndicated court show, but it was canceled because of low viewership. The series will remain on the air until September 2022.
If you still want to watch an arbitration-based reality court, you can watch Judge Steve Harvey which was renewed for a second season in April 2022.
