'Creed II' Review

Creed II is a 2018 sports drama film directed by Steven Caple Jr, and written by Sylvester Stallone and Juel Taylor from a story by Sascha Penn and Cheo Hodari Coker. A sequel to Creed (2015) and the eighth installment in the Rocky film series, it stars Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone, Tessa Thompson, Dolph Lundgren, Florian Munteanu, Wood Harris, and Phylicia Rashad. Creed writer-director Ryan Coogler serves as an executive producer on the film.

In 1985, Russian boxer Ivan Drago killed former U.S. champion Apollo Creed in a tragic match that stunned the world. Against the wishes of trainer Rocky Balboa, Apollo's son Adonis Creed accepts a challenge from Drago's son, another dangerous fighter. Under guidance from Rocky, Adonis trains for the showdown of his life, a date with destiny that soon becomes his obsession. Now, Creed and Balboa must confront their shared legacy as the past comes back to haunt each man.

Creed 2... Wow. I was not expecting that. Creed 2 was a great film. It is an excellent follow up to the original Creed, and a worthy successor to the Rocky franchise.

I loved Creed and I didn't think this one could be as good. I am happy to report that this one was just as good and at times even better. This is one of the best boxing films I've ever seen.

The acting was fantastic. The characters were great, and the development they get was surprisingly good.

This film is pretty predictable. It follows the same Rocky format like the other films. Halfway through I knew exactly how it was going to end, but even knowing that I found Creed 2 to be so powerful.

Steven Caple Jr's directing was amazing. I thought the fight scenes in the original were amazing. The ones here are shot differently, but their just as good.

Honestly there is very little I found wrong with this film. Yes it was predictable and I did find it to be a little slow at times, but as a hole this is definitely one of the best boxing films I've seen.

The acting was phenomenal. Michael B. Jordan gives an Oscar worthy performance. He proves again why he's one of the best actors out there. His performance was powerful, intense and authentic. He'll make you cry then he'll make you want to stand up and cheer all within a split second. This is one of his best performances to date.

I also really enjoyed the supporting cast. Sylvester Stallone gives another great performance as Rocky. Tessa Thompson was once again great. She and Michael B. Jordan shared great chemistry together. I also really enjoyed that she had a bigger role in this one, and that her character had a lot more to do.

Florian Munteanu was definitely the least experienced, but it didn't really show. I thought he really held his own especially in scenes with Michael B. Jordan.

As a whole the cast and acting was nothing short of amazing.

Creed 2's plot and story it's what sets it apart from the rest. It is very predictable, and it does follow the same Rocky formula from the other films. They could've called this Rocky 8, but with that being said they embraced it to give us a great story. It was a personal, authentic, and at times heartbreaking story about redemption.

The four main characters (Rocky, Creed, and the Drago's) have such a personnel story and connection to one another that every scene they share just had so much natural tension. In every scene with them whether it be a fight scene or just them talking you could feel the emotion.

Another thing I really loved about the plot and probably my favorite part was the amount of character depth and development that the Drago's got. It's very rare for a boxing film to put so much in the opposing characters. The Drago's had a heartbreaking story to tell, and as to story went in I starting caring more and more for them.

The climax and that final fight scene was amazing. It had such much depth and weight to it. Towards the end of the fight I started rooting for Drago. Both Creed and Drago had so much to fight for that you didn't want to see either of them lose. When the fight is over you just want to stand up and give them both a round of applause.

The ending was beautifully crafted. The story was just amazing.

Creed 2 exceeded all my expectations. It was a beautifully crafted film. The acting was amazing, the score was also great, and the story was amazing. Steven Caple Jr built off of what Ryan Coogler did with the original, but he added his own style to it that really paid off.

Although this is a fairly predictable film, and it does follow some of the same boxing film clichés it was great to watch. The passion that went into it is second to none. This is probably one of the best crafted boxing films you can find.

Creed 2 truly is a great film, and one of the best boxing films you can watch.

Nice review, I really liked the first Creed movie so will check this one out. I like Stallone as a coach more than as a boxer.
