The Coldest Anime Characters

Author:
coldest-anime-characters

These guys are not just cool, they're damn cold.

9. Tsukimori Len/Ren

coldest-anime-characters

Tsukimori Len is a violinist with a cold appearance and a cold personality. He looks like a dead kid walking around with his instrument around the campus (literally, I mean he doesn't talk to anyone nor does he seem to be interested in anything except playing the violin). He is outstanding in his chosen field though but he doesn't show any interest in interacting much with people around him.

He is surely one cold guy

EXCAPT THAT... his only salvation seems to be Kahoko, as he slowly shows his warmth (but with very slow progress I must say) not only through his music also but when socializing with other people as well. Way to go, Len!

8. Echizen Ryoma - Prince of Tennis

coldest-anime-characters

Echizen Ryoma can be regarded as one of the coldest anime characters out there. He is cold, cocky and too focused in tennis to care and to show his affection for other people. However, his indifference and arrogance actually appear to be his charm, attracting lots of female fans, including me!

He is most certainly cold

EXCEPT THAT... he will sometimes realize he is being way too cold and will do little favors for Sakuno. And oh, he extremely cares for his cat, Karupin, too!

7. Mizutani "Dry Ice" Shizuku - Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

coldest-anime-characters

I actually haven't seen a girl as cold as Mizutani Shizuku for a really long time. When the series began, she doesn't have a single friend around her and her former classmates even gave her the nickname "dry ice." Her only goal in life is academic excellence, and nothing else matters, which is the reason why she never invested emotionally on anything or anyone.

She is most definitely one of the coldest female characters ever

EXCEPT THAT... she eventually develops a soft spot for Haru.

6. Natsume Hyuuga - Gakuen Alice

coldest-anime-characters

Natsume is usually alone and detached and cold towards everyone except his best friend Ruka. He usually skips class but whenever he does not, still refuses to mingle with other people, even if those people really cared for him. Although he developed this kind of personality for a reason, it cannot be denied that he is not just unmindful of others, but he can be very mean to anyone, for no compelling reason at all.

You may definitely call him one mean guy

EXCEPT THAT... he would die for Mikan, so don't :)

5. Vegeta - Dragon Ball Series

coldest-anime-characters

This extremely arrogant Saiyan prince can be really annoying most of the time especially his self-centeredness, overconfidence, and extreme sense of superiority. He is aggressive, serious and a good number of times ruthless that I never imagined he would be able to live peacefully with the other DB characters on earth.

He actually almost made it to the top three coldest anime characters ever

EXCEPT THAT... just when we were so sure he was the type who will die alone in life, he marries Bulma.

5. Sesshomaru - InuYasha

coldest-anime-characters

This handsome demon oozing with sex appeal prefers isolation more than anything else and will kill anyone on his way in his search for power - even if it is his brother. His evil nature seems to stem from his obsession with power and strength but can only be expected from him, a full-blooded demon. He is most of the time emotionless, if not annoyed or angry.

Some may even say he is as evil as Naraku

EXCEPT THAT... for the first time in his life, he cared for a human girl - Rin.

3. Yuki Nagato - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

coldest-anime-characters

Yuki Nagato may be very well the epitome of an icy, emotionless human be-, sorry, just being. Nagato is actually an alien possessing supernatural capabilities. Her social skills are almost parallel, if not very close to Full Metal Panic's Sagara Sousuke (social skill = 0). She looks as if she is incapable of speech, and whenever she does speak, she does so in monotone. She also claims she doesn't fully grasp the concept of emotions.

She actually had a good chance of topping this list

EXCEPT THAT... she is the exemption. She was programmed to not have feelings. The only reason she did not win is because the two other characters who bested her were way too evil.

2. Hibari Kyoya - Katekyo Hitman Reborn

coldest-anime-characters

Hibari Kyoya likes being alone. However, he appears to like beating the crap out of others more than being alone. As student council president, he is dedicated to protect the peace in Namimori Middle School, whatever the cost. However unlike Nagato who doesn't feel a thing, Kyoya appears to possess feelings - feelings of anger usually caused by people who disturb the peace in his school and people who disturb his ever so precious sleep.

He is a point away from the title "the coldest anime character that ever lived"

EXCEPT THAT... he is still alive and he is also an exemption. He will bite you to death whoever you may be. You can go kill yourself in front of him and he'll just yawn while you're at it. However, he will come to respect Mafia boss Sawada Tsunayoshi in the future and will become one of Tsuna's most trusted guardians, so there... goes the point.

1. Yagami Light / Kira - Death Note

coldest-anime-characters

Now, do I even have to explain why Yagami Light is our winner?

I know I don't have to anymore but I still have to. Light won because he is just pure evil, even without a trace of demon blood flowing in his veins. Throughout the entire series, nothing weighed more than his own sense of bringing divine justice unto the world, not even his family. He seemed to care for his sister, but not to the point where he will give up his desire for her sake. He never truly loved anyone, not even Misa.

No doubt, he is the coldest anime character, ever!

Help me turn this into a Top 10 list!

Who did I miss? I missed someone, didn't I? :)

Agree or Disagree?

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on February 25, 2016:

Well, lucky Hibird, right? I want Hibari too have a soft spot for me too

Rina on February 24, 2016:

Well, Hibari also has Hibird. Reborn wikia states that he has a soft spot for small animals too.

kitsune on January 11, 2016:

Ciel Phantomhive??

sid on May 01, 2014:

I think sebastian should be first

lulu on September 12, 2013:

Where is lelouche? You can't forget lelouche. He literally killed of most of his own family.

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on August 13, 2013:

I agree, most of the characters on this list are both evil and cold at the same time after all. But there really are cases where a character is cold just because he/she is cold, not necessarily evil. Take Echizen Ryoma and Mizutani Shizuku as examples :)

Alex on August 13, 2013:

Depends on where you're looking from, in the last few Railgun episodes he was sub-zero cold. And there doesn't always have to be a difference between evil and cold, they fit quite well together.

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on August 12, 2013:

yeah, accelerator was pretty cold too but I think was more evil than he was cold. haha :D

Alex on August 11, 2013:

Accelerator would be up there, but he lapses into insanity too much... I agree with Light, he's worthy of the #1 spot, although I can see a few others who might equally deserve it.

Michelle Widmann on July 31, 2013:

I was expecting Light to be number one on the list. He was just so cold-hearted in Death Note. But I found his character to be interesting, because he didn't seem to be cold in the beginning. He seemed to have good intentions, and the power of the notebook just got to him. Amazing character development!

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on May 09, 2013:

Haha, I agree with you on Naoki. Haven't seen the entire series though so I did not include him, yet. Thanks!

Emily Nemchick from Phoenix, AZ on May 09, 2013:

For that matter, L is pretty cold too. Yours is a good list... the only other person who jumped to mind for me was Naoki from Itazura na Kiss. But he does, on occasion, show he cares.

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on April 28, 2013:

I'm a fan of Light too, I think he's handsome and cool and intelligent and even if he goes around killing random criminals and other people, I still love him. But that doesn't change the fact that he's cold. Can't remember an instance when he showed his affections for anyone (remind me of there is one).

And sure, Ill check that Afro guy out. Thanks :D

Diablo Del Derek from East coast on April 27, 2013:

I agree Afro,and sasuke r so icy!

nufoundglory from Asia on April 27, 2013:

WAIT! I forgot about another ice-cold a-hole in existence! Afro Samurai! The main character, Afro, is probably much much colder than all the five characters in your list combined together.

In short, any ice-cold character that chooses revenge over family and friends are always THE coldest characters (Afro, Sasuke).

nufoundglory from Asia on April 27, 2013:

Why isn't that annoying ice-cold a-hole Saucegay in this list? I would list him in top 5. Other than that, I agree with Hibari and Echizen Ryoma being in the list, but I don't really think Nagato and Light should be in the top 2. Top 10 yes, but not top 2.

When I watched Suzumiya, at first I couldn't care less about Nagato, but through to the end of the series plus the movie, she displayed a more human behavior that gave us insights to her "feeling" and "empathy", so she shouldn't be in the top 2. As for Light, maybe I'm biased since I'm a fan of him.

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on April 16, 2013:

I remember Vicious. As for why he did not make it on this list, hmmm... Vicious was both vicious and ruthless alright but the way I remember him, he was more of a bloodthirsty person he was a cold person. I don't know, maybe he didn't have enough airtime so I couldn't remember too well. But if I had an "honorable mentions" segment guess I can put him there.

Diablo Del Derek from East coast on April 16, 2013:

What about Vicious from Cowboy Bebop The Guy was ruthless!

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on April 10, 2013:

Hi peachpurple! From this list I made

https://reelrundown.com/animation/Highly-Recommend...

I'd recommend One Piece because its really really funny :D But that's rather long so you might want to try Lovely Complex instead :)

It is not on this list, but I also like the humor in Gintama.

Hope that helps! :)

peachy from Home Sweet Home on April 08, 2013:

Thanks for the recommendation. What comedy like anime would you recommend?

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on April 08, 2013:

Bubblegum Senpai, yep I've seen the Disappearance. Kyon also believes that she isn't as emotionless as she thinks too :) I haven't been reading the light novels though. Thanks for mentioning, I will have to check that out so that I can make necessary changes on my EXCPET THAT notes. Haha, and thanks! :)

Thank you too, Jamal Ahmed! \m/

Jamal Ahmed on April 08, 2013:

EPIC LIST XD and fitting ending :P Light is coldest ever. +1 for the list :D nice work

Nigel Kirk from Calgary, AB, CAN on April 08, 2013:

Have you seen the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya? or read the more recent light novels? Trying to be spoiler free, but Nagato isn't as cold as the audience is lead to think. (By the way, once my -dere hub finishes review, I'm totally forwarding readers to this. This makes an awesome companion to the module on Kuuderes)

Ayu (author) from Sorajima on April 08, 2013:

Thanks Willsummerdreamer and Namels Reviews!

And it seems that I really have to watch Evangelion now :)

Christopher Gordon from Massachusettes on April 08, 2013:

Hmm...I think I would have to agree with the #1 choice for sure.

A good contender for this list would have to be Commander Ikari from Evangelion though. The way he treats his own son throughout the series is just ice cold.

Will English on April 08, 2013:

ah Vegeta....you are always awesome XD. Nice list.
