'Celebrity Big Brother 2': Interesting Things About Olympian Lolo Jones

Margaret Minnicks has been an online writer for many years. She writes about various topics including celebrities and entertainment.

Lolo Jones, whose real name is Lori Susan Jones, just completed Season 2 of Celebrity Big Brother on CBS. When she was younger, people called her Lolo to keep from getting her mixed up with her mother who is also named Lori. Throughout her life, the athlete has still been referred to as Lolo.

Lolo is an American hurdler and bobsledder who specializes in the 60-meter and 100-meter hurdles. She participated in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics and was the favorite to win a medal, but she tripped on the next to the last hurdle and finished in seventh place. She also competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. That means she is one of few athletes who competed in both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. She has never won an Olympic medal. However, she is a two-time gold medal world champion.

Lolo's Background

After seeing how Lolo behaved on Celebrity Big Brother 2, this writer did a background check to find out some more information about her. It turned out to be quite interesting.

Jones was born in Des Moines, Iowa to a Caucasian mother and an African-American father. She attended eight schools in eight years while her single mother often worked two jobs to support her family of six. Lolo's father was not around much when Lolo was a child. He spent many years in the United States Air Force and also some years in prison.

When Lolo was in the third grade, times were tough for her family. They had no home, so the family stayed in the basement of a Salvation Army church.

While in high school, Lolo separated from her own family and lived with four different families so she could run track. She continued to live with one family while she attended college. She trained for track and worked part-time at a local coffee shop. Jones worked her way through college and graduated in 2005 from Louisiana State University with degrees in economics and Spanish.

Jones has always had to struggle to meet her financial obligations. She was thinking about giving up her track career when she did not qualify for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. She did what she could to make ends meet. For example, she did not use air conditioning during the hot Louisiana summer days to save money on her electric bill. She worked several part-time jobs at a time including being a waitress, working at Home Depot, and being a personal trainer at a gym.

Today, Lolo resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She has two sponsors: Asics and Red Bull.

Lolo Jones' Time on 'Celebrity Big Brother'

After knowing about Lolo's background, fans of Big Brother can understand to some extent her behavior on the reality show and especially some of the details that were seen on the Live Feeds.

Lolo shared with the other houseguests about her financial situation. She said she wanted to win because she needed the money for health insurance to keep training. Even though she tried hard to win she was in a fight with five of her houseguests. She and Tamar Braxton were in quite a few quarrels.

Once she flew off the handle when Tamar made a note about on her sea bass order. Tamar said the crew would bring in a truckload if there was no quantity stated. Lolo did not appreciate Tamar writing the amount of sea bass to be brought into the house. During the airing of the argument, most of Lolo's conversation was bleeped out. However, her curse words were heard on the Live Feeds. She cursed worse than a sailor during many of the arguments she had on the show.

During calmer times, the 36-year-old athlete shared that she has done some online dating, but she can't find anyone who is compatible with her. She told the houseguests that she is a virgin. She said the same thing in a 2012 segment on HBO's Real Sports. Lolo brings the subject up quite often. It is a part of her profile on Wikipedia.

Lolo's Criticisms of Houseguests and the Show

During the show, several houseguests concluded, "It's just a game!" Apparently, Lolo had more invested in the show and thought of it more than just a game. Head of Household Ricky Williams voted her out during the first tie-breaker of the season on the last night of the season. Lolo was steaming mad when she was evicted from the house and when she sat down with host Julie Chen Moonves for her exit interview.

Even after the game was over and Tamar Braxton was crowned the winner unanimously, Lolo Jones has not been silent. She said something negative about second-place winner Ricky Williams during the finale when he didn't choose her to go to the finals with him.

It seems as though she couldn't wait to get to her Instagram account to blast her former ally. She called the second-place winner a "false prophet." She said she is not talking to him anymore and they could never be friends. She wants the haters to know that she is not mad because she lost the game. She says she is mad with Ricky because he was not loyal to her.

"Live Feeds Don't Lie"

While in the house, she claimed that Olympians should stick together. According to TMZ, Lolo described Ryan Lochte as "Olympic disgrace."

She even made a comment about Tom Green being awarded the $25,000 for getting "America's Favorite Player" votes. She screamed, "Don't America know Tom Green is Canadian?"

Lolo has gone so far as to tell Parade magazine that the production team edited the show to make her and Natalie look like they were bullying Tom Green and Kato Kaelin when it was just the opposite. She admits there were times when she and Natalie were in arguments with Tom and Kato, but she said the show was edited to make it look like she and Natalie were the bullies. To this allegation, one person tweeted, "Live Feeds don't lie."

The athlete accuses YouTube of deleting videos of Tom Green. She said they "edited and scrubbed" the videos that showed the real Tom Green.

Social Media Responds to Lolo's Behavior

Some people on social media called the athlete "Loco" instead of "Lolo." They described her as argumentative and volatile with a foul mouth.

Many fans of the show said they used to like Lolo as an athlete, but now they can’t stand her, and they are glad she did not win. One person said Lolo needs anger management and needs to stop being a sore loser.

Some viewers said her behavior was not that of a devout Christian that she claims to be. They pointed out that she was holding the Bible in one hand and curse words flying from her mouth at the same time. They concluded that Lolo is not a credible witness for Christianity. She talks the talk, but she doesn't walk the walk. This was evident by her behavior on the second season of Celebrity Big Brother.

Most viewers agree with one person who tweeted, "Lolo played this whole game with emotions. She evicted with emotions. She voted with emotions. She was emotional all through it. Not a good way to play."

This is not the first time Lolo Jones has been a sore loser on a reality show. She was the first person voted off of Season 19 of Dancing with the Stars with partner Keo Motsepe on September 16, 2014. She claimed there was a technical error and she couldn't hear the music in the only dance she got to do.

Fans of that reality show criticized her for her rude attitude. They mentioned how she was rude to her partner and didn't respect the judges' comments.
