Turning 50 years old is a milestone event for most people, traditionally, it is the beginning of the transition from middle age and a sharp line in the sand between young and old. By today's standards, 50 isn't necessarily "old" yet, because people are living longer, healthier lives. However, in the youthful eyes of vanity, 50 is "over the hill" and women who are staring at the big 5 0 are thought to be beginning to lose their looks...well, here are six beautiful black female celebrities who are turning 50 in 2020, and they are challenging vanity's silly notions...
Taraji P. Henson
Most folks may know her as the bold, brassy Loretha "Cookie" Lyon from the Fox TV hit show, Empire. However, many of us have been aware of Henson since the early 90s, and especially when she caught fire as the classic "Baby Mama," Yvette, from the film, Baby Boy (2001), opposite Tyrese Gibson.
Taraji was hot then, and she's hot now. Born on September 11, 1970, Taraji P. Henson will turn 50 in 2020.
Fresh faced black actress, Regina Hall has been known to black audiences dating back to her early appearance in the film, Love and Basketball (2000). Although she was always on our radar, her fame hadn't really begun to cross over to general audiences until she appeared in Girl's Trip (2017).
Hall has a gentle beauty that was perfectly characterized in the film, The Best Man (1999), and her gentle beauty has endured to this day. Regina Hall turns 50 on December 12, 1970.
Nia Long has long been a standard of beauty, so it was a no-brainer that she would be on this list. Ever since her days as Brandi from Boys in the Hood (1991), Long has been a staple for black audiences. She is the type of actress who seems to have morphed into someone everyone "knows" and loves and she is amongst one of the first black actresses to come to mind for the traditional "cute girl" role.
Indeed, Long was cute back in the day, but she has grown into an incredibly beautiful woman today. Nia Long turns 50 in 2020, as she was born on October 30, 1970.
Elegant and radiant are two words that perfectly describe Audra McDonald. Although she has appeared in on screen in projects since the mid 1990s, most audiences know her best from the Broadway stage. Because of her strong theater presence, McDonald has been known to general audiences for decades. She has won more performance Tony awards than any other actor/actress in history, and most folks already know that she can sing her butt off...
Most folks also know that McDonald is a gorgeous woman, and she has always presented herself as such. Audra McDonald was born on July 3, 1970, so she will turn 50 in 2020.
Everyone knows Queen Latifah. Black audiences know her from her days as a female rapper in the late 80s and early 90s, general audiences know her from her slew of movie and TV gigs, heck, even your mama and grandma probably know who Latifah is.
However, because she is so popular for her music, acting, and comedy, it seems that most folks either miss the fact or take the fact for granted, that Latifah is a stunningly beautiful black woman. She's been stunningly beautiful since we first met her back in the day, and she's even more stunningly beautiful today. Queen Latifah was born on March 18, 1970 as Dana Elaine Owens, so she will turn 50 in 2020.
Now, this is one of those "duh" moments. Obviously supermodels are ridiculously gorgeous, and they seem to stay ridiculously gorgeous from cradle to grave. Naomi Campbell has been known to all audiences since the early 80s when her modeling career first took off as a 16 year old. Campbell first appeared on the scene in the late 70s in Bob Marley's official video for, Is This Love when she was only 7 years old - she was a cutie pie then, but no one could have guessed she would grow into the raging beauty that she would become.
Ridiculously gorgeous back in the day, and even more still today... British born, Afro-Asian Supermodel, Naomi Campbell was born on May 22, 1970, so she turns 50 in 2020.
2020 is a year that many celebrities will turn 50, clearly the same can be said of any year. The reason beautiful black celebrities are pointed out in this article is because they defy the American standard of beauty. Immediately following this article, I will publish another article to highlight the mainstream beautiful female celebrities who will turn 50 in 2020 as well.
