Photographing flowers is so much fun!

One of the most enjoyable past times for a photographer is taking photos of flowers, at least it is for me. Of course there are also awesome sunsets, sunrises and of course wildlife to capture as well.

Floral photography is one of the most popular forms of photography because flowers can be found everywhere. It's not difficult to locate these amazing beauties, and below I will showcase the Iris, magnolias, rhododendrons, azaleas, hydranges and tulips, which are all from my garden, how cool is that. Or in spring time, we head out to the tulip fields in the Skagit Valley in LaConner, Washington. This is a must visit place for any photographer wanting to get close and personal with these beauties of nature.

In photographing flowers it is best that you take the photographs during early morning or late afternoon. The reason is, if it's too sunny you will have a lot of shadows and glare. Ideal lighting for flowers is diffused light of open shade or even a cloudy day. You can also use warm filters to create certain soft moods as well. For fun, I will take a black backboard and place it behind my flowers to get a beautiful effect, as seen in the "White Lilies" photograph, this helps make the flowers pop out at you.

I use the Canon Digital Rebel XT EOS, it's the older version but it works quiet well for me. The lens I use is the EFS 18-55 mm for most of the close up photos and use the built in macro mode. This will give give you such vivid and bold close up detail each and every time. Also, if you can afford a tripod it's a must have to avoid getting blurry photographs. The table top tripod works wonders and is easy to carry with your other photography equipment.

Things you can create with flowers - endless possibilities!

If you are like me, I am always looking for ways to dispay or possibly even sell my photography. Some of my art and photography is featured on FineArtAmerica. That is a great website for print on demand. They also create many different products with my artwork such as pillows, phone cases, canvas prints, throws and so much more. Another option is an online fabric printing company called Spoonflower, they print your artwork onto different types of fabrics. There you can order as much or as little of a piece of fabric as you like. The fabric panels I had made of my photography came out amazing and I have sewn some beautiful pillows and quilts. I have some photos below showing some of the artwork on fabric.

So do not limit yourself to just the photographs - step out of the box and start venturing out into different areas where you can display or use your photography to create beautiful things, photography is an art so why not take it to the next level.

God's signature is on each and every petal!
