When young Gabriel Drummond joins the insurgency, he soon finds himself under careful scrutiny from a shadowy figure who's trying to crush the rebellion and its plans for freedom
Disappointing. That's the only word I can think of. This film was very disappointing. It was painful for me to sit through.
Captive State is the perfect title for this film, because that's exactly how I felt while watching it. I was just stuck watching this mess.
The plot was so messy, and the film as a whole was just so confusing. I didn't know what was happening most of the time. They say certain things throughout the film, but I had no idea what they were talking about. I thought I fell asleep halfway through because I was so lost. There's an opening scene that gives you a little insight, but that's it. Captive State was extremely hard to follow. There was some poor world building.
They introduce certain subplots put abandon then almost immediately. We're introduced to certain Characters, but they don't get any development. I honestly don't remember most of their names.
This film didn't do anything exceptionally good. There's sci-fi, but not a lot. There's a few thrills, but none worthwhile. This film just never quite figured out what it wanted to be, and never got it's feet under it.
Captive State was highly disappointing.
The acting was 100% without a doubt the best part of the film, but even then I do feel like some of the cast is wasted. Ashton Sanders gives another solid performance and John Goodman is John Goodman, but I felt like both of them were under used.
Vera Farmiga was in this and she wasn't bad at all, but she's on screen for about five minutes. MGK was introduced as a main character, but after a few minutes his character gets dumped.
As a whole the acting was solid but man there was so much wasted potential, and no one really got the necessarily time to shine
The plot was so messy and confusing. Which was unfortunate because the story itself seemed pretty straight forward. They just didn't put any time to actually explain the world. Up until the end I had no idea what a "Roach" was.
The plot was linear and simple, but they try to do so much that it just crashes and burns. The main character player by Ashton Sanders gets lost halfway through. I actually forgot that he was in the film.
Certain things happen, but I had no idea what they meant. They should've added five minutes to explain the fundamentals of the film, but they don't. Your left guessing what certain things mean.
There is little to no fountain here and the film really suffers because of it. Characters do things that I just couldn't comprehend. Subplots get randomly dumped, and characters are introduced then barely mention ever again.
The plot (at least from what I understood) wasn't good. Simple but so confusing and heard to follow.
Captive State is a truly disappointing film. They just didn't do any great. There are a few good things like the acting and there are some really good shot scenes, but as a whole just disappointing.
I found the score to be alright, but it did get a little excessive and annoying at times. The CGI was good, but there's barely any in the film. The even messed up the sci-fi. There wasn't a single memorable moment or character, and I really didn't like the ending. The film became frustrating because I had no idea what was going. I honestly didn't know who the heroes were.
If your looking for a decent sci-fi film you won't find it here. It your looking for a coherent story look somewhere else. Through and through Captive State was a huge disappointment.

Yeah the movie really disappointed me. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I could not agree with you more. Do not waste your money with this boring movie is not worth it. It does not make any sense and it is all over the place. If not the worse movie I ever saw it is among the top three ever made. Weak poorly written plot that was hard to follow most of the time, mediocre cinematography, depressingly dark, no special effects, no thrills of any kind, few sloth/porcupine like alien encounters and awful acting. Some gory implant removal surgery, torture, drug use, brothel, lots of chaos and stressed out people running aimlessly. Captive Nation struck a match and it only managed to ignite boredom.
