THE MIST Movie Creatures!!!

The Mist Movie Plot and My Review

In The Mist following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist. Local rumors point to an experiment called the 'The Arrowhead Project' conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapor are secondary to the group's overall chances for survival. Retreating to a local supermarket, Drayton and the survivors must face-off against each other before taking a united stand against an enemy they cannot even see.

When I first went to see this movie I first thought it would be one of those typical horror movies with one giant monster that they keep hidden til your around the very end of the movie but was I ever pleasantly surprised about this one! There is not only 1 but numerous creatures that inhabit the mist and each one more interesting then the next! If you have read any of my other hubs you know what a Horror movie creature fanatic I am and after seeing this movie I thought it deserved a creature hub all of its own!

The Mist Male Spider

This creepy fellow has razor sharp teeth and is quite the jumper and when it captures you alive it lays eggs inside the hosts body. During the movie you see one man ripped apart when they hatch as all the baby spiders come spilling out! Gruesome yet Great!

The Mist Female Spider

This little girl is just one the many creepy crawlers running around in the Mist, the male and female spiders look very different but there are way more females then males in the movie.

The Mist Window Bug

The Window Bugs are drawn to the light inside the store they are all hiding in , however they make look innocent enough but once the glass is broken and they start to enter the store they townspeople learn the hard way that a single bite from this bug is deadly. It makes your body swell up with in seconds till you cant breathe and then inevitably die.

The Mist Bird

The Bird is large and in charge! It has a gruesome beak that can cut, slice, and bite as it sees fit. The bird is first introduced to us by eating the window bugs when they are sitting on the window of the store but when one of the birds runs into the window breaking it and then falling through chaos is immediately created as the towns people do whatever they can to get the monster bird back outside!

The Mist Tentacles

We never get to see just who these vicious and deadly tentacles belong to but they certainly to leave a very big impression. The tentacles are the first life form we see in the mist that really prove to everyone that there are very scary creatures alive on the outside of the walls.

The Mist Big Beast

The Big beast can be barely seen walking in the mist but since in towers so high its easy to hide from this monster unlike many of the others but just try not to get crushed.

The Mist Mantis Monster

This creature is huge and during the movie you can really only see an outline of it in the mist but at one point you see it grab someone and tear them apart! With its giants Jaws and Claws this is a very scary creature indeed

Really liked the document but you forgot one thing you didn't mention about the Mist Male Spider, when they spray out there webs it's like acid and can slice through your skin like that one dude who volunteered to go to the medicine store and that line of web

touched his leg.

at the beginning of the movie, at the store,,,just after the mist rolled in... there was a loud kaboom on the roof...the whole store shook...this is also what caused the air to clog up and they had to turn off the generator... because of bad air reversing into the store,,,

a giant creature plopped on the roof and stayed there.. evidently this is where the tentacles in the rear came from,,,

at least that's what it seems to be

htrhtrhr on March 09, 2014:

the mist tentacle was a tongue of a likely subterranean creature due to the acidity of the toungue, maybe a worm

Tootincommon on October 06, 2013:

Yes there was an earthquake when that huge monster walks in front of the Bronco at the end. And it had tentacles. But wouldn't the quaking have been like its footsteps in the end instead of that massive one minute quake at beginning? Plus, i also agree that the humungoid's tentacles were too far off of the ground to have come from 30-40 or more stories high to reach Norm. No that was a different beast altogether, kinda reminds me of the aliens in Dreamcatcher the way the tentacles had teeth. SK's magnum opus was the Dark Tower series and I remember hearing that most if not all of his writings can be tied together via the main theme of parallel universes and different dimensions. The big beast was in one of the Dark Tower books when Roland and friends ride the Monorail through the least.. I think I remember it from one of the paintings in the book....

I agree johnny, how else would the big-tall beast consume its food? The tentacles can be clearly seen hanging from the underside of the creature. It's far too tall to kneel down to ground level and capture its prey. Furthermore, wasn't there an "earthquake" while everyone was inside the store? The tall creature certainly shakes the ground when it walks, which could hint to the creatures proximity to the store... was the bag boy consumed by this tall creature?

johnny on December 22, 2012:

Am i the only one who thinks that the tentacles at the beginning were most likely from the bigbeast at the end because if you look at it closly you can see tentacles.

Crummyhand on July 10, 2012:

the tentactles can't belong to the big beast because it is far too big to even reach the ground because the tentacles are on his head..'mist cockraches and the spiders are the same'

Fortress on April 08, 2012:

Mist cochroachs are baby mist spiders. And the tentacles belong to the big beast... Their not separate creatures.

Mr Phoenix, apparently Half-life was inspired by the novella "The Mist." In fact, I hear that the working title, or the original title of Half-life was going to be "Quiver," after the Arrowhead Project. So, you're not wrong in spotting the similarities!

Mistman on March 15, 2012:

To tell you the movie ending is better than the books!

death dealer on February 14, 2012:

the black lawyer ? was destroyed be the mist spiders

josh on February 09, 2012:

wat happened to the black guy

If not for the monsters in this film, the acting alone would've made it an Oscar calibre film. The ending was the single best thing about this movie. As a writer I look to trap my readers or audience in this case, and that's what was done. It pulled tightly at your heartstrings and didn't let go. Whether it was amusement, depression, anger, or sadness, you felt something. And that's what matters. The ending of the film left a lasting impression on me for a long time, even still today. Great movie. And great article.

the mist mantis monster good monster :D

MOHSIN SHAH on September 21, 2011:

absolutely brilliant movie. I can honestly say the

movie has done complete justice to the book.

Andrew McKenzie from Wisconsin, USA on August 21, 2011:

I much preferred the short story by Stephen King called "The Mist" that this came from. I'm not sure why, but it was always one of my favorite short stories and the movie sort of put everything out there and left little to the imagination. I'm kind of a geek that way, in that I picture things much better in my head than can typically be realized using special effects.

Mr. Phoenix on June 25, 2011:

I've read the book before. It looks like the movie is just as gruesome as the book, possibly more so. I don't remember the mist spiders laying eggs in people in the book, although I could certainly imagine them doing that. The Mist Mantis reminds me of the Xenomorph from Alien, and it kind of looks like something from Half-Life. The Tentacles look vaguely like something from Half-Life as well. It is pretty gruesome how the tentacles eat that bag-boy even as they drag him off.

Gordon Freeman would have squished all these creatures beneath his heel. I suppose having an HEV suit helps. That and a shotgun. I remember what he did to the tentacles in Half-Life- "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the rocket propulsion test chamber!"

Kato on May 08, 2011:

Oh I loved the movie and I just finished the book. I have to do a book report about it and make some creative box with pictures and stuff that remind me of it, and I'm drawing the creatures for the outside of the box , so your pictures were very handy, thanks ! :)

Kitty Fields from Summerland on February 16, 2011:

awesome hub...i agree with hairyLGS, though...i hated the end of this film! i love irony, but god that was depressing.

anywho, wonderful write up and awesome pics. thanks!

voted up and awesome!

Those look like something from a nightmare some kid might have

Glimmer515 (author) from Never Never Land on December 04, 2010:

I will give the film credit for not having the "typical" happy ending, but since there was a kid involved the ending just rubbed me the wrong way

Elias on December 04, 2010:

Call me sadistic, but i was absolutely amused at the ending. It doesn't turn out as the typical "happy ending". Loved it.

Gemineye on September 20, 2010:

Nice work! I thought the movie was creepy & intense. The nasty beasties were definitely worthy of the article! The ending also left me really down - a horrible disturbing ending that was "perfect" in the sense that it left you with the "....." feeling. But, overall, I thought it was a good movie.

Excellent work on the baddies!

Richard(Blah!) from Somewhere in the UK on July 18, 2010:

Sounds like I'm the only one who thought the ending was inspired. Great movie.

MrMidNight on June 12, 2010:

Informative and creative, well thought out hub, yes i have to agree wit hairyLGS, i didn't like the ending either, but the movie itself was good excluding the ending.

Glimmer515 (author) from Never Never Land on June 10, 2010:

Yeah I agree wih you , I thought the film was great up until the very end ,but the creatures make it worth watching anyways :)

hairyLGS from Malaysia on June 10, 2010:

Well documented. Although I never did enjoy the ending of the film (even though it was ironic), I finally get a chance to see how many creatures are there in the film. Good job.
