Dadi Amma Dadi Amma Man Jao

This song is great because of the many aspects of life it depicts. It is a song not just for children. It is a song of a nation which, having been freed from the shackles of colonialism, was trying to get on its feet. While doing so, it faced challenges, frustration, and injustice but the path it was carving out for itself focused on values. This number represents the hardships, resolve, and aspirations of young India. The voices of Asha Bhonsle and Mohammad Rafiul do full justice to excellent music composed by Shankar Jaikishan. Mera Jahan

This song is the tale of a 21st century kid. He must live and adapt to an immensely complex modern life in which technologically led, politically confused, and chaotic, impersonal collectivity take their own toll on children. Like other children, this boy has little time to understand what is going on around them. His reactions to life around him are a reflection of this age and society. The song's soft music is composed by Shankar Ehsan Loy. The lyrics were written by Prasoon Joshi and the singers are Adnan Sami, Ananya Wadkar, and Auriel Cordo.

Shree 420 (1955)

This song is food for thought and food from the soul from a documentary about the cultural history of India.

Ichak Dana Beechak Dana

A classic in every sense, this song addresses the way riddles help kids imagine and learn, but there is a lot more to it. There are many subplots unfolding side by side, in the form of a love story. Open sky schools are still a reality in many villages, but in the '50s they were almost a universal phenomenon. School teachers were not discouraged, however, as in this number. Some of the former students of such schools can vouch that some of the best teachers they ever came across were in such schools. This riddle-loaded musical composition was created by Shankar Jaikishan, lyrics were written by Hasrat Jaipuri, and it is sung by Lata Mangeshkar. An eternal classic!

Juhi Ki Kali Meri Laadli

This great song has an unforgettable melody sung by Suman Kalyanpur, a singer whose full potential was probably not exploited by Bollywood. It reflects the touching love of a mother for her dear daughter, and how the Indian family pampered its children with all their affection and love. The on-screen presence of Meena Kumari is equally authentic. This musical melody was composed by Shankar Jaikishan and its lyrics written by Shailendra.

Chun Chun Karti Aayi Chidiya

The movie Dilli Door Nahain is about a child who wants to go to Delhi to meet the Prime Minister and tell him that his father, who has been accused of a murder but is actually innocent. The child is determined and on his way is escorted by a man who has developed a strange affection for him. The movie depicts how older India had a lot more to offer for all children, unlike the modern urbanized societies of today. This song has highly hummable beats and lyrics that easily stick to your toungue. The great voice of Mohammad Rafi makes it a real treat for everyone in the audience. Rail Gaadi Rail Gaadi Chhuk Chhuk

Many consider this number to be Bollywood's first piece of rap music. The fact that the song is primarily for children does not undermine its spontaneous, innovative creativity. Not exactly in the classical mode, it befits the child entertainment where it proposes to belong. It also brings out the singing abilities of Ashok Kumar, a Bollywood veteran, who used to sing in his early years in Bollywood during the '30s and '40s. This number was and remains a favourite with children, though the appeal of child numbers is not the same today, an age of animated movies and video games. The music was composed by Vasant Desai and the lyrics were written by Harindranath Chattopadhyay.
