If you wish to contest American Idol, you have to attain the age of 15, and should not be more than 29.

Contestants Who Are Below The Age Of 18 Must Come With Their Parents:

During the screening process, contestants are made to sign legal documents. For this reason, contestants who are not up to 18 years are required to come with their parents or guardians to sign the legal documents to be on live television.

You Must Be Residing In The U.S:

This television talent show was named American Idol because it is meant for American residents. So do not bother to apply for the contest if you are not living in America.

You Have To Be Screened Online:

Online screening is the first audition contestants face. The audition requires contestants to submit online, tapes that answered a few questions about themselves, and any song of their choice.

Your Callback Could Take Months:

Having submitted an online audition tape, you are required to wait for some months. It could take up to six months before you receive a callback.

You Have To Be Screened By Producers:

When you receive a callback after your online audition, it is left to producers to decide if you got a judge's panel audition or not.

You Can't Be Screened Twice In A Season:

Multiple submission is not allowed. American Idol is a yearly event. If you don't succeed in this season, you still have the opportunity to participate in the next season.

Limit For Past Contestants:

If you have once contested for American Idol, and made it up to the top 10, then you are not eligible to contest again.

You Finance Your Traveling And Accommodation:

Audition is free in American Idol, though you will be responsible for your accommodation and transport.

Sing Any Song Of Your Choice:

You can create your song or sing a song of another artist. The song you sing before the panel of judges must not be your Copywriter. What the judges look forward to hearing is your ability to sing. If you have a limited time, you can creatively select parts of a song, just to demonstrate your potential.

No Group Audition:

As you are screened independently, so shall you perform on the stage independently.

Contestant Is Allowed To Bring In Guitar:

Contestants who can personally play guitar or any other musical instruments are allowed to bring it into the audition room.

Your Dressing Must Be In Conformity With TV Rules:

Contestants are advised not to appear in the audition room in clothes with company logos, sports names, or brands on them.

All Your Performances Will Be Recorded.

All performances, whether monitored by judges or not, are captured on camera.
