Alissa White-Gluz is a more than great replacement for Angela Gossow
Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy has excited fans such as myself with their strong death metal vocals, great guitar rhythms, good solos, and music that is inspirational and really can help people get into a better mood! I decided to give their album War Eternal a review and analysis mainly because of their new front woman, Canadian born Alissa White-Gluz. She replaces Angela Gossow whom the band had as a constant member since 2001. Also playing on this album is former Nevermore guitarist Jeff Loomis. He takes the place of Nick Cordle. Alissa certainly does not disappoint! I got so excited when I found out that Arch Enemy has a Canadian singer mainly because of my love of Canada. I’m sure that the band members of Kittie will be impressed! That’s a thrash metal group that is recommended to those that are fans of thrash metal. It is time to explain why War Eternal as of 2017 may be this band's best album.
The world should be grateful for the contributions of Michael Amott and Arch Enemy
War Eternal has so much melody that it may be Arch Enemy’s best album in 2017. They have certainly matured a lot as a group. They started out as band playing traditional death metal in albums such as Black Earth and Stigmata. They have evolved into a neoclassical melodic death metal band. They can beat bands such as Children of Bodom, Norther, and the countless Finnish melodic death metal bands. I say this as an avid fan of the genre. The creativity and musical prowess of Arch Enemy must be given praise and the full appreciation. One day when Michael Amott and Alissa White-Gluz retire from the music business, metal fans will be saddened to see them depart. Amott has been one of my favorite guitarists for a long time and I’m really grateful for his contributions to the music industry.

The first three tracks of the Album War Eternal are impressive as well
War Eternal has lots of interesting sounds including three instrumental songs. That is how this solid album starts out. Tempore Nihil Sanat (prelude in F Minor) is a short classical song with chanting style vocals that is similar to what took place during the Middle Ages. Never Forgive, Never Forget is an awesome melodic song that is about someone who is a misanthrope. This person has nothing but hate in their heart for all of mankind. This song is the perfect way to start what is a very impressive album by this veteran Swedish band. War Eternal is the next song in this album and it is about not knowing how to tell the difference between friends and foes. Often times, the military likes to control its soldiers and tell them what to do.

Why is As the Pages Burn such a great song?
As the Pages Burn is a fast song that criticizes the way that people around the world are taught about historical events. The song is actually trying to suggest that revision of history is necessary and that we need people to start writing about the real history of the world as opposed to what media sources try to tell us. This song has speed, creativity, melody, and good vocals.
The song "Down to Nothing" (great fast riff in this one)
The album War Eternal has many important lyrical themes in it
No More Regrets is a song that is about trying to accept your mistakes in life when you choose the wrong path. What is done is already done and cannot be changed so we have to accept the fact that we make mistakes in our lives. We have to strive to make a better choice next time. The song Time is Black has a guitar part that sounds like a song on 1999’s Burning Bridges. The song On and On features vocals that are sort of similar to those of Petri Lindroos (Ensiferum). The song is about going off to fight a war that seemingly has no end to it. The melodic tapping in the song is nothing short of brilliant! Avalanche is a song about what can happen to a person that leads a life of lies and deceit. Karma will come back to bite them in the foot. So be careful how you treat others. Down to Nothing features Alissa’s most brutal, dark guttural vocal growls that would leave any death metal vocalist impressed. I sense that there is some Annihilator influence in this song.

An Analysis of the Album War Eternal Five Years Later
Note: it is now November 2019 and the question on some people’s minds is how War Eternal as an album is five years after its release? The intricate melodies of the song Never Forgive, Never Forget are something to remember for sure. Sometimes we are so full of hate that we have a very hard time forgiving those that have wronged us. Humans are not perfect and that’s one of those things that we must keep in mind. Nevertheless, this second song is one of the strongest in this album. No More Regrets is another creative song as Alyssa continues her growls and the song is about the fact that what is done is done. There is no need for regrets. We cannot erase the past and we must keep moving forward with our aspirations, dreams, and goals. You Will Know My Name has a sort of In Flames influence in it and the symphonic element is present but do not worry! This is not a cheesy experiment but something that works out pretty good. Graveyard of Dreams is another instrumental song in this album and it adds to the creative brilliance of this band. Is War Eternal the best album by Arch Enemy? It very well could be given the strength of the songwriting and the vocals of Alyssa White-Gluz.
Final thoughts: why is War Eternal Arch Enemy's best album?
The album has a cover of Judas Priest’s Breaking the Law but this one is a much more metal version of it. War Eternal is as outstanding as an album in every way that I see little flaws with this one! Arch Enemy did more than just try to rebound after Angela Gossow’s departure. They got better in the songwriting department and the guitar playing has become their most creative to date.
