Studio Ghibli animated films. Which one you love?

Animated films! Everyone has their own way to de-stress. A fresh air at the beach, nature tripping, shopping, who doesn't like to shop and food trip afterwards? And of course who would say no to an animated film filled with adventure that never fails to summon one's imagination as the story unfolds?

As kids, even as adults, we spend hours staring at the tv screen watching cartoons, even watching old favorite anime series, yes I know you do too. Dragon Ball Z, Ghost Fighter, and Hunter X Hunter are just few and I still do play their theme songs once in a while.

And when it comes to animated film, it's like that portal that brings you back to childhood, of being captivated and letting yourself to be taken into otherworldly places and experience the adventure, taking the lessons back with you into reality. Well, that's how it is to me when I stumbled into one of Hayao Miyazaki's animated movies years ago and since then, I have been watching more of Studio Ghibli films. Which one of these captures your heart?

Spirited Away trailer

Be brave with "Spirited Away" and conquer your fears as you find yourself in a different world.

Although I can hardly remember which Studio Ghibli film I've seen first, I'm pretty sure that Spirited Away isn't the first one. But it is my favorite of all. It has something special that awakens your imagination as you let the movie take you into an adventure where spirits exist, and you, being different from the rest.

Produced by Studio Ghibli in year 2001, every scene and the magic in this film is just captivating. A very well done animated film. And in fact, I've watched this movie more than once. It's magic.

Just about to settle to a new town, 10 year old Chihiro got the adventure of her life by being trapped into the spirit world with her parents being transformed into pigs.

Kiki's Delivery Service

A film about the courage to live on her own to train as a young witch and the adventure that comes along with it. This is another good animated film to watch for the whole family. I had a good laugh specially with the talking black cat. There's not much action in the movie but the lesson is still in here for the young kids to learn, even for adults.

Kiki's Delivery Service was released in year 1989 and the English dub was made in year 1997 by Disney. From the year it was released, we can say it was an older animated movie but still, the fun of watching Kiki's Delivery Service as she tackles challenges is a must see which is why I watched the movie more than twice and I still enjoyed it.

Howl's Moving Castle

A movie about love and magic, Howl's Moving Castle is a great movie and would keep you focus on the screen. An animated movie to fell in love with, with a handsome wizard. With that said, yes the movie revolves around magic as you learn the importance of trust while having an adventure with the cast.

The movie was released year 2004, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and was considered one of the most financially successful Japanese film as it earned a total of $231.7 million.

Like other Miyazaki films, I got hooked in this one as it travels me to strange and beautiful places in the movie. It makes me feel like I'm in there with the characters having the adventure of my life.

Princess Mononoke

For those who loves adventure and action, Princess Mononoke is another family animated film that's great to watch. It is that animated film that will teach you to love and care for mother nature. Let Princess Mononoke take you away and meet San who rides a wolf, the nature spirits kodama and the Great Forest Spirit.

Princess Mononoke was released 29th of October 1999 in the United States and on the 12th of July 1997 in Japan.

My Neighbor Totoro

For those who are looking for fun and that inner child within, My Neighbor Totoro would be just a perfect.

Released from 1988, My Neighbor Totoro was the fantasy movie just right for those who loves this type of film and was produced by Studio Ghibli. Share some giggles with the two characters Satsuki and Mei and meet the "forest keeper" Totoro.

The Cat Returns

A fantasy type movie, I bet this one would be enjoyed by cat lovers as it has a really good story. Let yourself be taken into the world of cats in The Cat Returns.

At year 2002, this animated movie was released in Japan and the English by Walt Disney the following year, which was 2003.

Back to the movie, the girl on the photo was Haru, a shy girl who is currently in high school and has the ability to speak with cats. Her journey to the Cat Kingdom started when she saved a cat on the street one day from being hit. It happens to be that the cat she saved was the cat prince! She then got the offer to marry the prince.

Let Haru take you along with her in her journey into the cat kingdom along with Muta and Baron.

Whispers Of The Heart

Watching this movie, I remember the saying, "The more you hate, the more you love." There's just that one scene in this film that made me laughed which is one of my favorite part. Who would know that there would be love at the end? This is the movie for people who likes drama, or for those who enjoys love story, as this movie is a good one made into an animated film.

Written by Hayao Miyazaki, Whispers of the Heart was produced by Studio Ghibli year of 1995. Yoshifumi Kondo directed the film whom three years later had passed away because of aneurysm.

Ponyo On The Cliff By The Sea

A Studio Ghibli film that Hayao Miyazaki had written and directed. This movie was released year 2008 in Japan and in US the following year.

The animated movie's character might be just a 5 year-old boy but it's a family movie that anyone can enjoy. I did. Kids would love this movie specially seeing the two characters, the 5 year-old boy named Sosuke and the goldfish that he spotted, stocked on a small glass bottle drifting on the sea. I love seeing good animation and when the movie has some magic in it along with a story about friendship, just like this film, it's hard to resist.

Castle in the Sky

Castle in the Sky

La Puta: Castle In The Sky

Another animated film written by Hayao Miyazaki that he also directed. This was a 1986 film. I can hardly believe it's been that long since the film was released. I was merely 2 years old and I've just watched and enjoyed this movie 24 years after the release. Anyhow, I still love the animation and the story. Everyone deserves some "me" time and used their imagination to explore magical places and that's how this movie was to me.

Laputa is a castle in the sky hidden from human civilization but the girl named Sheeta has a pendant that might be the key to finding the way to the castle in the sky.

Her adventure started when she tried to escape both the pirates and the military who were after her pendant as both parties believe she would show them the way on how to get on the floating castle.

Nausicaa Of The Valley Of The Wind

This was the third movie I watched. Another animated film that was created by Hayao Miyazaki that was released in 1984.

An adventure film, might be the oldest of all movies by Studio Ghibli as the movie was created before the studio was founded but the making of the movie and the graphics was good.

This was the story of a girl, the princess of the Valley of the Wind who has to stop another kingdom from using a destructive weapon just to eradicate the mutant giant insects that was occupying the Toxic Jungle.

Tales From Earthsea

Tales From Earthsea

Tales From Earthsea

An animated movie that was released in year 2006 and was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's manga.

As with watching the movie, I love all Studio Ghibli films, fantasy and adventure type of movies can keep me lost track of hours. And Tales From Earthsea is one of those. The part of the story I enjoyed was the wizard in the movie, Sparrowhawk and of course the young Prince Arren. But then later on as the movie goes on, another third character,a girl named Therru showed up and became another companion for the young prince. She's a bit mysterious which makes the movie more interesting to watch.

The Borrower's Arrietty

When I saw the movie trailer, I got so excited as I'm sure I'm going to love this film. This really reminds me of "Thumbelina" that I or my mom used to read on a book before when I was in grade school. And seeing the graphics of The Borrower's Arrietty just took me to a whole new world of fantasy. I just enjoy movies of this kind with fairies, gnomes, and this film, the little people and their borrowing of things from the humans.

Produced by Studio Ghibli, this fantasy animated film was written by Hayao Miyazaki and directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi year 2010.

Follow the story of these little borrowers and see their world and find out why they try to avoid being seen by humans. Another movie I enjoyed and I know you will too.

@ Maemers: Then I guessed I can consider myself lucky from knowing about Studio Ghibli movies ^.^' I was bored one day and looking for animated movies and got into, I believed was "Howl's Moving Castle." I've loved Studio Ghibli since I was a little girl and saw "My Neighbor Totoro." I feel that they are a highly underrated selection of films in the United States, most everyone I know hasn't seen any of them or heard of them. While I don't think some of the films are as good as others there isn't one of them I haven't seen multiple times, excludind Arietty since I saw it in theaters. Howl's Moving Castle is still my favorite, Spirited Away a close second.

Wow! And I haven't seen Arrietty yet. :) You would like Earthsea if you watch it. And Ghibli was about to make another two movies as I saw it on Wikipedia, "From Up On Poppy Hill" for this year and "The Tale OF The Bamboo Cutter" which is gonna be next year. I love Spirited Away too ^-^'

I thought I'd seen all of them but I never saw EarthSea. I really want to see every single one. I loved the recent ones (Borrowers and Ponyo) but Spirited Away was better for me because it had really good character development in Chihiro and there were so many great supporting characters like Lin, Haku, and Komagi.
