60 Ageless Adorable Actresses

Debbiie Reynolds-- April 1st, 1932--December 28th, 2016

Debbie Reynolds is still beautiful today, and I love her acting and singing.

Debbie Reynolds is still beautiful today, and I love her acting and singing.

Debbie Reynolds

Debbie Reynolds—Mary Frances Reynolds, born on April 1st, 1932, in El Paso, Texas, probably bounced into this world just as perky as ever. She is always bursting with energy and looks beautiful.

She died on December 28th, 2016, in Los Angeles. She was a beautiful, talented lady.

(On December 27, 2016, her daughter Carrie Fisher died, one day before her mother.)

Debbie started her career with MGM at the young age of 16 years old, with the help of her parents, Raymond and Maxine Reynolds. Her father registered her in a bathing suit contest, and her mother redesigned an old bathing suit of hers for Debbie. And she wore a pair of her siblings’ high heels. Debbie won the contest to the amazement and delight of all her family, and her life’s career began on that day in 1948.

She is one of my favorite actresses as I have watched her many films on television with my sweet mother. And as I watch her old movies, I can still feel my mother’s spirit near, and I smile knowing I am never alone. Debbie is still very active and has a great website that plays the song "Tammy" when you click on it---there she is in a beautiful gown dressed like the lady she is and always has been in life and her career.

She is only 5’2" tall, but nevertheless, she has a backbone of steel, and with all that life has thrown her way, she has caught the negative and thrown it back with a positive ending. She has been up and down on life’s roller coaster.

Her first husband, Eddie Fisher, had an affair with Elizabeth Taylor, and later married her, leaving Debbie with two children to bring up alone. He left Debbie when Carrie was 18 months old and Todd was a baby. But Debbie rose above it to outshine her ex-husband in life and in her career.

Debbie married Harry Karl in 1960, but a fairy tale marriage it was not. Her marriage to Harry Karl, for 13 years, ended on a sour note in 1973 when he almost ruined her financially with gambling and bad investments.

Debbie married Richard Hamlett, a real estate developer, in 1984, which lasted until 1996, after which she made bad investments again with her money. Debbie had to file Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 1997 for her hotel in Las Vegas, and again she rose above it.

But no one can keep this little Molly Brown down with her singing, acting, and dancing circles around most performers today. You have the best wishes from all your fans. Go Debbie.

I know she is dancing and singing in Heaven as an angel.

Dressed To Kill Tour

Cher once again proved she is not ready for retirement. All her fans were so excited about her "Dressed To Kill Tour" because Cher showed everyone that age is only a number as she sparkled and shined, while the rest of the world looked on in awe.

Cher's Star Shines

Cher's beauty has mesmerized us for four decades---especially her extravagant costumes---barely covering her perfect body. And, to make her more irreplaceable, is her exquisite voice, which will echo in our memory's hard drive forever.

She is a singer, actress, writer, director, and producer, and she is still going strong today---and is just as lovely as she was years ago.

Since the first time she appeared on TV with Sonny, Americans have been in love with Cher. She has millions of fans that still buy her movies and music around the world---today.

Cher has graced 53+ magazine covers and has won Academy, Emmy, and Grammy Awards, and the list is so long for additional awards. You will see them listed here: Click the link below:

Thanks, Cher, for the music that kept us moving with your beat---and the beat goes on---for many more years of our listening pleasure.

Ann-Margret Olsson Smith

It is a great pleasure to honor these beautiful ladies whose multi-talents made our lives so much richer and more enjoyable. For many years, they have performed on stage, screen and television to our delight, giving up a vast amount of their time and life to entertain us with their acting, singing and dancing skills.

1.) Ann-Margret Olsson Smith was born in Stockholm on April 28th, 1941.Soon afterwards, at a very young age, her parents, Anna and Gustav Olsson, moved to Jämtland, Sweden. She is a Swedish-American actress, dancer, and singer.

Ann-Margret and her mother came to America in November 1946 to join her father, who had preceded them to America in 1942. Mr. Olsson had to leave his family in Sweden to work in America for an electrical company, paving the way to a great life for his family.

Mr. Olsson made a home for his family in the suburbs of Chicago. Ann-Margret's parents saw the artistic potential in her and enrolled her in a dance school at the age of eight (8) years old.

Her parents were always empathetic and encouraged her from an early age throughout their lives.

George Burns discovered Ann-Margret when she and a group went to Las Vegas for a promised, engagement, which fell through. He auditioned her for his holiday show. And they performed together, dancing the soft shoe.

And as they say in Hollywood, the rest is history. With her 5'5" beautiful curvy body complemented by flamed red hair and lavender-blue eyes, she had the world by the tail and everyone in it. She sang and danced her way into every man's heart in America. All the females, young and older, wanted to look like Ann-Margret.

Elvis Presley and Ann-Margret met while filming Viva Las Vegas. Together on the screen, their performance mesmerized the audience, as the screen sizzled with passion from their character roles and from each personally.

When these two multi-talented souls met---their spirits soared into another time and space---to be joined together in that dancing-musical on the immortal plane where lives begin as soul-mates. But here on this earth it was not meant, and it is sad when one's heart says: "yes" and someone else in control says: "no."

It's known around Hollywood that Colonel Parker broke up the close relationship between Ann-Margret and Elvis. Elvis became engaged to Priscilla Beaulieu, and the Colonel did not want any gossip to ruin Elvis' career. Elvis continued to attend all Ann Margaret's openings and sent her flower arrangements in the shape of a guitar.

They remained close friends for many years---and only they know if it was true love. Between a single, but engaged Elvis and a single Ann-Margret.

Ann-Margret later married Roger Smith in 1967. They celebrated fifty-one years of marriage as one of Hollywood's greatest couples.

Elvis and Ann-Margret had a close relationship and fun together riding in fast cars.

Jean E. Smart

12. Jean E. Smart—Born: September 13, 1951

Although Jean accumulated an excellent resume acting in theaters and on Broadway, most Americans know her as Charlene Frazier in "Designing Women," which debuted in 1986.

Jean Smart is so beautiful and buxom blond that no one will forget her as the silly, flighty Charlene. She was blessed many times for having gotten this part of a lifetime.

Jean had the privilege of acting with top stars such as Dixie Carter, Annie Potts, Delta Burke, and Meshach Taylor. Jean met her husband, Richard Gilliland, on the show, who played Ann Potts’ boyfriend for a few seasons.

(I could watch Designing Women all day if I could be still that long.)

Julie Andrews

24. Dame Julia Elizabeth Wells Andrews---DOB: October 1, 1935

An English-born actress whose parents were performers in Vaudeville gave her singing lessons immediately after realizing her exquisite four-octave voice range was a rare gift indeed.

My favorite Julie Andrews movie is The Sound of Music. I have worn out my video of it and now I need to purchase a DVD of it. It is at the top of my list of favorites, and I miss it.

Julie Andrews is a very beautiful lady, and she can perform with the greatest actors and actresses while shining just as brightly as they do. And, her dancing skills are untouchable, as I can still see her and Dick Van Dyke dancing in Mary Poppins. Another great movie for children and adults. I played this over and over for my six nephews as they were growing up. The only time they were still for longer than an hour was when

No one can touch her singing voice---it is straight from the Singing Angels in Heaven---and that is my adamant opinion.

When she was 20 years old, she began her stage career, and the rest is history. She has made our hearts sing for years on stage, screen and television. She will never know how many times she has soothed my restless, sweet nephews with her beautiful voice. I thank you, Julie Andrews, for all the babysitting you did for this grateful Aunt Bobbi, and it made me smile to watch their sweet faces as you watched and listened to you.

Linda Evans won the hearts of all the men who watched "Big Valley."

Linda Evans

48. Linda (Evanstad) Evans was born on November 18th, 1942 to professional dancer parents. Linda was very shy as a child, and when in high school, her parents persuaded Linda to take drama in high school. The drama class gave roots and a kick to her career in acting.

Her first guest role was on Bachelor Father, starring John Forsythe in 1960. From 1980 through 1989, she would later co-star with John Forsythe in Dynasty as his wife, Krystal. (Remember the perfume by the name Krystal? My mother loved it.

She married John Derek, an actor, director, and photographer, from 1968 to 1974. It seems John loved blondes and had met another blond who he was directing in one of his movies by the name of Mary Cathleen Collins, better known today as Bo Derek, after her first film.

Her second husband was Stan Herman, who was a real estate millionaire. They married in 1976 and remained good friends until their divorce in 1981.

Linda has only made about a dozen movies because her career has been mainly in television. She was the beauty of the weekly series in Big Valley and, 15 years later, in Dynasty.

She is semi-retired today and enjoys a life of her choice, such as living a peaceful life at home or accepting small guest appearances on talk and cooking shows.

Whether you remember Linda as Audra riding her horse in The Big Valley with all her good-looking brothers, Heath (Lee Majors), Nick (Peter Breck) and Jarrod (Richard Long) and her lovely mother, Victoria Barkley (Barbara Stanwyck), or seeing Krystal walking down the beautiful staircase in Dynasty or remembering the famous fighting scene with Joan Collins in the pool,

But remember her you will—as the beautiful star who visits our homes now on reruns every day and who is a very nice person.

Kim Novak

An Honorable Mention---Kim Novak

Marilyn Pauline Novak was born on February 13th, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Blanche Novak.

Kim began her career by modeling teen fashions in a local department store. However, Kim wanted to venture out, so she moved to Los Angeles. She still modeled part-time but soon began her career in acting.

Kim’s first role was in 1954 with Jane Russell; however, she had only a bit part as an unaccredited model. Her career would not stop there, as she obtained the role of Madge in Picnic opposite William Holden in 1955. She reported her salary as being only $100.00 per week.

Her performance as the sexy Madge got her a Golden Globe Award as the "Most Promising Newcomer."

In the same year, she played opposite Frank Sinatra. It seemed like overnight that Kim was now a popular actress. The studio bosses vied for her attention to sign with them because she was a popular product.

She is best known for playing Madeline Elster/Judy Barton in Alfred Hitchcock’s movie "Vertigo" opposite James (Jimmy) Stewart.

Kim made 32 movies from 1954 through 1991, and then she retired. However, she stated recently that she might be interested if something good came along.

Rauel Welch in Fathom 1967

Susan Blakely in The Ted Kennedy Story

An Honorable Mention--Maureen O'Hara---August 17, 1920---October 24, 2015

Maureen O’Hara was born as Maureen FitzSimons on August 17, 1920, in Dublin, Ireland. Her father, Charles FitzSimons, was a businessman, and her mother, Marguerite, was a stage actress and opera singer.

She is an Irish film actress and singer. She made many films with John Ford and played in five films with her good friend John Wayne: Rio Grande, The Quiet Man, The Wings of Eagles, Mclintock, and Big Jake.

Maureen was one of Hollywood’s most beautiful women with her fiery red hair and an on-screen temper to match; she put a lot of fans in theatres to watch her perform from her first film until her last in 2000.

She took a 20-year break from films to spend time with her family around 1970 and came back to make a film in 1991, "Only the Lonely," with John Candy.

From The Quiet Man with John Wayne to The Parent Trap, she has played with the most powerful of leading stars, from Tyrone Power to John Wayne.

She made 56 films, five television movies, and various guest appearances. She first appeared on television as a guest on The Pat Boone Show in 1958.

She is 92 years old and has retired to Ireland. She has her daughter, Bronwyn, and grandson, Conor, close to her. She is doing great for a 92-year-old.

Never---will another actress ever walk, sing, or dance in her shoes---nor brighten up a screen like she did with her Irish eyes and fiery red hair.

Your fans love you Maureen O’Hara

Anjelica Houston

Anjelica Huston

A Tribute to a Great Actress Whose Star Shines Brightly.

Anjelica (Anjel is her nickname) was born on July 9th, 1951, in Santa Monica, California, to Enrica (Ricki) Soma, a prima ballerina, and John Huston, an actor and director. She is the third generation of actors in her family to have won an Academy Award.

Her grandfather was Walter Huston, who was a Canadian and very popular as a lead actor who worked at the beginning of the talkies through the 1940s. He died in 1950, more than a year before Anjelica was born.

She is an actress, director, and producer and is the voice of several cartoon characters. Her talents extend beyond the best actress into a place of her own. She has 78 titles to her name in movies and television and has filming scheduled for 2014.

Since she spent most of her childhood in Ireland and England with her mother and did not start her acting career until later in the 1960s, She acted in some of her father’s movies and did not have a starring role until later.

A disaster brought her back to America when her mother, Ricki, was killed in an automobile accident at the age of 39. Ricki was only 19 years old when she married John Huston, who was 43 at the time.

Anjelica was slender and tall at 5’ 10" and beautiful, so she modeled for a while, and after her modeling career ended in the 1980s, she began her acting career. Her father cast her in her first significant role in Prizzi’s Honor with Jack Nicholson, and she won her first Oscar for best supporting actress.

Anjelica and Jack had an on-and-off relationship, it seems, until she married in 1992, and they remain friends to this day. My mother always wanted them to marry as they had the best chemistry together, she said, and what a waste they didn’t. I have not seen Prizzi’s Honor, but it is on my list of "Need to."

However, I did see my very favorite movie of hers, Buffalo Girls. She played the bristly Calamity Jane and her friend Dora (Melanie Griffith) had fun together and were best friends no matter what happened---they had each other's back.

Calamity loved Wild Bill Hickok (Sam Elliott) and who wouldn't love him—WOW! Calamity dressed as a man to get a job that paid a man’s wage, and she fooled everyone with her outfit. Times were raw and hard in the west---and if you did not have a man to protect and care for you, that is why Calamity Jane was tough.

I loaned a friend my movie Buffalo Girls years ago, and I did not get it back. So, I will need to buy this again as I cannot remember everything in the sequence it occurred.

What an enjoyable hub to read about the birthdays and some history of many of the great film-stars of our time. I say our time because I'm only a few years younger than most of them. Cher is for me also in the top ten of my favorites. She is by far the most stunning and original actress physically, and her voice is always captivating no matter what character part she plays. Voted up and shared.

You've put together quite a list here! I'm not familiar with all of these people, but they are in a good line of work because they really never have to retire as long as they can walk and talk. It's interesting to note the people who still look the same and the ones who don't.

Hi Bobbi how are you

I am so glad you posted a piece on Cher. She is such an icon with a unique style all her own.

I tried writing about many different iconic entertainers separately but hub found similar info.

So I put one hub together and said a bit about a few and named others.

Your hub captures the best of the best of yesteryear. I really don't think we will see the likes of them again.

Thank you for a wonderful post.

Great hub! I love a lot of these women, but especially Cher. She looks so good-- although who wouldn't after a little surgery. I liked her in Mask which I saw as a little girl. She recently did an AMA (ask me anything) on the website reddit dot com where anyone could ask her questions and she answered them in real time in a message forum like this. She mentioned a time that she and Meryl Streep were walking in the city at night after eating Chinese food and saved a young girl from being mugged. Imagine being saved by Cher and Meryl! I think I would have exploded from first being fearful of my life and then doubly starstruck.

Audrey Hunt from Pahrump NV on October 15, 2013:

I have always been a fan of Cher. She is true to herself and does her own thing, regardless of what anyone thinks. Admirable! Along with her unique singing and style, she is a top-notch actress.

Debbie Reynolds is ageless with a magnificent attitude and very talented. I love Linda Evans - so beautiful and such a lady.

You've listed all my favorites here and I'm adding another beautiful star to your list - YOU!

I love the way she dressed and I am can still surprise us today with one of her designs. She was so beautiful in anything she wore. And still is just as lovely.

Hi, my oldest sister really liked Cher a lot years ago. She loved the way she dressed and her beautiful long dark hair. Debbie Reynolds must of really rose above the bitter pill. Gail

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on June 04, 2013:

Both are great. My Mother loved Debbie Reynolds and after the bitter pill in her life one wonders how that sweet little Debbie can still be so cheerful---but she is on every interview I have seen of her.

Gail Louise Stevenson from Mason City on June 04, 2013:

Hi Bobbi Purvis, you're welocme. I enjoyed the songs by Cher and Debbie Reynolds.

Gail Louise Stevenson from Mason City on June 03, 2013:

I love to watch old movies and TV shows. All of the ladies listed are the greatest. I remember Linda Evans in "The Big Valley" with all of her brothers on the series. Cher is beautiful as well as all the other actresses listed. I loved the "Tammy" movies with Debbie Reynolds, too. I remember Sally Field in "The Flying Nun" years ago. Great actresses and great hub! Very interesting and a fun read.

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on May 02, 2013:

Hi Kevin,

I have always loved movies and admired the actors and actresses from a very young age. I looked at my mother's Movie Star Books and became fascinated with them.

Without their entertainment our lives would be very dull. Thanks for the visit and comment.

I think that the pure confidence and self-knowing that comes with age makes one beautiful, and thare are certainly some fine examples of that here... and your honorable mentions... beauty personified

Great hub !

This is a sampling of the ladies that have been in the spotlight on stage and screen. I was surprised at a few that were not on the list but you covered this well.

It would be interesting if you did a follow up on this only excluded the ones who had body part enhancements.

What a great trip down memory lane:-) At some stage or other each of these ladies would have been on my top list of favorite leading ladies. Raquel Welch is still up there with her beauty even though she is in her 70s.

Thanks for the memories :-)

An excellent tribute to many fine actresses....I was especially glad to see Kim Novak and Maureen O'Hara get a mention as they are two of my favorite actresses from the 1950s. A very enjoyable trip down memory lane with these very beautiful actresses. Voted up and interesting.

Barbara Purvis Hunter (author) from Florida on September 19, 2012:

I know you are too young for most of these ladies. I watched old movies with my mother---she loved anything in black and white, i.e., films, photos etc.

I remember watching old movies with ladies older than these---like Dinah Shore, Loretta Young, Betty Davis, Jane Wyman and many more. Old movies were on weekends late at night and I would go to sleep watching with my mother.

In 30 years you can write about the ones you remember---and that will be great,

Have a nice day,

Bobbi Purvis

Thank Bill,

I admire these women for many reason, not only for their beauty, fashion and talent, but for making it in the difficult world of Hollywood. I am sure they had to struggle and work hard to get noticed in the big rat race in Hollywood. Many stars stared apartments in the beginning of their careers.

Thanks for stopping by and for your comment.

Bobbi, have watched around 80% of your long list. A friend of mine from Minessota was named Margaret Ann after Ann Margaret. I was surprised by some stars' DOB. I think kim Novak is missing from your list. Well done Bobbi. Took you the whole municipal records just to get the real birthdays! Just amazed by your care in gathering so much info in this hub!
