1. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen (Kaguya-sama: Love is War)

The anime is a masterpiece. It offers exactly what you would expect from a romantic comedy. It would have done great even if it’s all comedy. But with the introduction of heart-warming stories of teenagers who are learning to accept their flaws, insecurities, and trying to accept others the way they are, the anime has reached one level above. The main characters are constantly playing weird games to force another one to reveal their true selves. They have genuine and sincere emotions, but their egos restrict them to confess, a situation that closely resembles real teenagers’ life. It’s a show that everyone would love to watch at least twice.

Kingdom 3rd season

Kingdom 3rd season

2. Kingdom 3rd season

Kingdom is supposedly the best historical anime produced till now. Unfortunately, it isn’t widely popular like others on the list, but it is certainly worth it. It is a fictional adaptation of Chinese history during the Warring States period, which came to an end in 221 BC.

The story is at par excellence. Xin yearns to be the greatest general in history. In the process, the characters travel between China’s warring states. The anime brings in lots of emotions, sometimes you laugh and sometimes you cry and may even get angry. It literally connects with the audience’s mind and heart. The art is also credible. Not to forget to mention the awestruck sound used in each episode with remarkable character development. You feel connected with each character.

The battles really get your heart pumping. You feel like you are a part of it. Along with a motivational speech, your comrades are right behind you ready to kill and get killed. The scenes are so real, it makes you filled up with various emotions. For a moment, you feel like a warrior yourself. So, just do yourself a favor and watch it.

Due to Zhao’s temporary truce with Qin, he has found an opportunity to negotiate with the other states without any trouble from the army. As a result, the armies of the six states (Chu, Han, Qi, Zhao, Wei, and Yan) cross the Qin territory without any warning. Now too late to apprehend Li Mu’s reason behind the truce, Ying Zheng summons his advisors to make a proposal to the consortium of the six-state armies.

Witnessing the destruction of the state for the first time ever, the Qin army must avail every resource at their disposal to prevent their name from being erased from history.

Fruits Basket 2nd Season

Fruits Basket 2nd Season

3. Fruits Basket 2nd Season

Fruits Basket 2nd Season is perhaps the best Shoujo anime you are ever going to watch. If you haven’t watched the first season yet, then shame on you. The original fruits basket arrived a decade ago. It was more on a comedic side and didn’t explore the characters’ past. But this new series is comical as well as personally explores each character’s life. It actually follows the manga the way it should.

I am really turned on by the background music, which makes the scenes more stimulating. Even when you want to stay stoic, the music will make you get into the groove. The anime has everything you can ask- romance, jealousy, heartbreak, family drama, friendships, humor, separation, and an urge to mend for past mistakes.

Each character is carefully designed. You hate them, cry for them, and love them. The story is brilliantly covered. It beautifully mimics real-life situations- you judge people on the basis of their demeanor, then you either hate them or feel indifferent. But when you go deep, you learn their stories, sympathize with them, and eventually, they become your close acquaintances. That’s how Fruits Basket goes, very realistic.

Whether you are a Shoujo fan or not, I recommend you to watch this at all cost. Believe me, you won’t regret it.

4. Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen 2nd Season (Ascendance of a Bookworm Part 2)

Honzuki no Gekokujou is a pretty special one for me. I never thought I would ever be in need of anime like this one. Being a bookworm myself, I deeply fancy its story, presented in a manner that’s absolutely magical.

The 2nd season carries on from where it left in the first one. It focuses on word-building and beautifully portrays the everyday issues of daily life in the medieval period. The anime deeply covers the issue that has affected the majority of the people, “how am I going to ensure my survival till the end with food and clothes?” Besides, Honzuki no Gekokujou also deals with the popular notion “all elites are bad while all commoners are good”, its plot primarily deals with the class conflict. This is an accomplishment in itself, not every anime can cover this as the main storyline.

The characters are given much thought in their personifications. They believe in individualism and are driven by their unique motivations. Together, they have done an incredible job in lifting up this slice-of-life anime.

The animation can be improved and the soundtracks could have been better. However, every anime isn’t perfect and it can never be. So, keeping that aside, for me, Honzuki no Gekokujou is a masterpiece that does deserve hats off for its unique plot.

Witnessing their magnanimous library, she becomes fixated to join the Church’s order. As a result of her unusual supply of mana, the Church offers her blue robes that signifies her as a noble-born apprentice priestess, though she is merely a commoner. However, for Myne, words like mana and nobility mean nothing, she is thrilled to have gained access to the bountiful library.

While she feels lucky for her new life, she soon realizes how cruel the world of nobility is. She is now stuck in the class conflict between the nobles (blue robes) and the commoners (grey robes). Facing rejection and going through constant struggles, Myne would overcome anything to fulfill her dream of becoming a librarian.

Kami no Tou (Tower of God)

Kami no Tou (Tower of God)

5. Kami no Tou (Tower of God)

Why this anime is one of the best? Some may question that because of the way anime has started but not to worry it does get better later. If you are a manga reader, you know what I am talking about. While in the manga, everything looks engaging and fresh, in anime, the production has taken a cliche approach. Hold tight, start with the first few episodes as you proceed, you’ll be delighted how the story takes an unbelievable turn.

I am really impressed by the way each character is shown driven to reach the top except the protagonist. The protagonist is pretty naive. There’s nothing special about him, but that’s what makes him really special. He portrays most of us in virtual life. We aren’t sure what we are supposed to do and where do we suppose to go, but then we come across a certain somebody and suddenly, we have a goal to work upon.

Tower of God does a fair job in character development. The characters are growing with situations with their unwavering determination. Full of twists and turns, the anime is an explosion at every point and thus I highly recommended it.
