About Highschool of the Dead

It all started abruptly. People begin dying on a large scale and the country was pushed into total chaos. Soon enough, the monsters reached a high school turning the students into one of them. Takashi Kimuro, one of the students, is forced to kill his friend after he was bitten and began transforming into a walking dead.

Determined to protect his just-killed-friend’s girlfriend Rei Miyamoto, he puts all his efforts to escape from the death trap only to realize the whole society has almost fallen. He and some other students successfully moved out of the school to look for their family members and discover the reason behind this sudden pandemic. He is joined by Saeko Busujima, the president of the Kendo Club; Kouta Hirano, an otaku with a fixation for firearms; Saya Takagi, the only child of a renowned politician; and finally Shizuka Marikawa, the school nurse.

While everyone is putting their all to end this mess but will their humanly strength be enough to overcome this un-deadly apocalypse?

High School DxD is a tale of an ambitious person. Nothing can stop him from achieving his goals, whether it’s his lustful desires or urge to save his comrades. Apart from the intense battles, the scenery is full of beautiful individuals, whose presence is enough to tickle your sensuality.

Synopsis

Issei Hyoudou, a high school student, is an average pervert who has nothing productive to do in his life. All-day long, he peeps on women and dreams of being surrounded by girls everywhere. Things apparently turn in favor when a beautiful girl approaches him to go on a date. Unfortunately, the girl turns out to be a fallen angel who brutally ends his life.

The beautiful upperclassman, Rias Gregory, who is herself a top-class devil, resurrects him and makes him her servant. She recruits Issei as a new member of the school’s Occult Research club. Gradually adapting to his new lifestyle, Issei has to go under intense training to ensure his survival in the inhuman world of angels and devils. Though the picture looks barbaric, Issei manages to make it fun with his newly found comrades.

High School DxD follows the story of Issei as a member of the Occult club. He not only has to work upon himself, but also has to keep his new life a secret from his family and friends.

The anime is set in a high school environment exploring the life of people who survived the apocalypse. Alike Highschool of the Dead, Gakkougurashi! is also filled with some interesting elements worthy of watching. Besides that, both the anime chronicles the struggles of characters in the god-forsaken world.

Synopsis

For Yuki Takeya, her school is a paradise and she doesn’t want to leave it at any cost. As a third-year high school student, she spends her life with serenity and remains stress-free. She is also a member of the School Living Club, which also includes Yuuri Wakasa, the president; Kurumi Ebisuzawa, the athlete, Miki Naoki, junior yet mature for her age, and Megumi Sakura, the supervisor along with the club dog named Taroumaru.

Yuki is known to make the most of her daily life at school. Unfortunately, the reality is far ugly from her beliefs. She is yet to realize the horrifying truth of the world she lives in. The real reason for creating the club is to sneak away from the fact that these girls are stuck amid a zombie apocalypse. They are the sole survivors and thus, have barricaded themselves within the school boundary.

Gakkougurashi! digs deep into the lives of these self-confined girls. They have no way of contacting the outside world and are surrounded by monsters waiting to devour them. These girls not only have to survive by all means but also have to pretend fake happiness in Yuki’s presence.

The main characters are dying to survive. Their once so-called peaceful existence is disturbed forever. Humanity is constantly reaching near extinction and there seems no end in the growth of monstrous creatures. In both of the anime, only selected brave ones will survive till the end, the rest will cease to exist by any time sooner.

Synopsis

Many centuries ago, mankind was vastly disturbed by the mysterious appearance of giant humanoid monsters called titans. They began hunting for humans not to feed themselves but for the sake of enjoyment. The remaining human race decided to build huge concentric walls and started living within them. Due to this, titans could no longer infiltrate their world.

However, their peaceful existence soon vanishes when, after a century, a colossal titan manages to breach the impregnable wall. Thus, the fight for survival once again begins. To counteract their terror, a military unit named Survey Corps is established that recruits potential people both men and women and train them to fight the titans face-to-face.

Shingeki no Kyojin revolves around the life of Eren Yeager, who after witnessing his mother’s death at the hands of a titan, decides to join the Survey Corps. He vows to annihilate this monstrous race along with his comrades including his sister Mikasa Ackerman.

Both are high on violence, bloodshed, and action. Each of the main characters has been thrown out of their peaceful existence and now, struggles to survive amid the commotion. Bestowed with amazing charter design and animation, if you liked Highschool of the Dead, this will be a fun watch too.

Synopsis

What could be the worst thing that happens in your life? It could be anything, but death is the end to all these miseries. There’s no afterlife, no salvation, and not even peace, in fact, there’s no god waiting for you upstairs. Well, what if there’s someone looking for you. It may not be a god, but a game inclusive of aliens and robots offering you a chance to survive.

After Kei Kurono is knocked off, he finds himself caught in a similar game. In the new world, his morals, skills, and most importantly, his will to survive are assessed. He doesn’t own his life, even his death is a trivial matter, he is played like a toy over and over again. Only god knows what will happen if he doesn’t heed his inner calling.

Gantz is one of its own kind of anime that doesn’t ask for a faint-hearted audience. Filled with rage and extreme violence, the landscape is defiled with greed, violence, and all sorts of real-life ugliness.

Primarily made keeping the male audience in mind, many may call it trashy forms of entertainment, yet they manage to survive. Both the anime have a great combination of lulls and thrills. With the inclusion of different types of genres mixed in one, both the anime are surprisingly satisfactory. What’s best is their amazing artwork and plot twists.

Synopsis

The elite Hachimitsu Private Academy is an all-girls boarding school located in the suburbs of Tokyo. It is vastly popular for its high-quality education and obedient students. However, its serenity is challenged when the school’s most renowned policy is revised to allow boys to take admission.

With the start of the first semester following the new policy, five boys successfully enroll in the school. The boys Andre, Jo, Gakuto, Kiyoshi, and Shingo are instantly outcasted without giving them an opportunity to make the first impression. Unable to befriend any of their fellow female classmates, they hatch a dangerous plan of peeping into girls’ baths. Their endeavor is actually way more savage than they could imagine.

Their plan is severely decimated by the student council and the notorious group’s freedom is suddenly snatched away from them. They are incarcerated in the school’s prison for a month as a form of punishment. Thus commences the story of Prison School detailing the harsh lives of these five boys. As they struggle to adapt to the new life, the prison puts their friendship on the test.

Both the anime immensely focus on bombs and explosives. Both have equally great fighting skills, amazing plots, as well as astonishing artwork. Both have comparably great action-packed sensuality, a good option for binge-watching.

Synopsis

Ryouta Sakamoto is a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). He lives together with his mother. His only valid achievement is that he’s a top player of the famous online video game Btooom! One day his ordinary life changes once and for all when he finds himself suddenly transported to a desolated island. To add more to his shock, he has a green crystal embedded in his left hand.

Sadly, he has no memory of how he reached there. All he can recall is that the place is a real-life version of the game he used to play, where he has to indulge in a battle of life and death. He is armed with a bag full of peculiar bombs called “BIM”. Interestingly, he finds many other people like him who have no knowledge of how they reached there. However, only one can return home who manages to kill the rest of the players and steal their green crystals.

Restraining himself from using violence, Ryouta reluctantly accepts to become an active member of the game as he finds other players are not all welcoming. In the process, he partners with a fellow player named Himiko to get rid of the island and learn the mystery behind this deadly game.

Alike in HighSchool of the Dead, the protagonist in Deadman Wonderland is leading a normal life until one unfortunate event forces him to fight for his survival. Both the main characters are thrown into a desolated world where they can longer connect with their family and friends. Both focus on gory themes including violence and bloodshed. The characters have to find a way to bring everything back to normal while also dealing with their abrupt feelings.

Synopsis

Ganta Igarashi is ready to spend another normal day with his classmates. They are looking forward to going on a field trip. The location is a prison amusement park known as Deadman Wonderland, where the convicts are popular for performing dangerous plays for their audience’s enjoyment.

While everything looks entertaining, Ganta’s life takes an upheaval when all his classmates are brutally murdered by a surreptitious man in red. Being the last man standing, he is taken as the prime suspect behind the horrendous act. He is sent to the same prison he was visiting earlier and is sentenced to death. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Within the prison, he encounters sadistic inmates and enigmatic forces. He lives in constant fear of a lethal collar fitted around his neck which loosens only when he wins in the prison’s brutal games. To have a chance of survival, he has to bet his life every now and then at a place, where separating friend from foe is almost impossible. Besides the prison trauma, he also needs to solve the mystery behind the man in red.

The main characters are carefree before the incident and then, are forced to live in uncertainty. Packed with a promising bundle of action, comedy, and other fun services, the anime is a mix of different genres. Finally, both the anime’s selling point revolves around the beauty of female characters.

Synopsis

Ayumu Aikawa’s high school life abruptly ends when he is murdered during his investigation of a suspicious house. Instead of dying and going to heaven, he wakes up to find himself next to an armored girl named Eucliwood Hellscythe. She presents herself as a necromancer. She informs Ayumu about his revival in the human world, but in the form of a zombie.

Now an immortal being, Ayumu is on a quest to find and kill his murderers. While searching from place to place, he visits a cemetery and finds a high-spirited young girl named Haruna. He witnesses Harina, being dressed as a magical girl, is fighting with a bear using a chainsaw. After killing the beast, she decides to erase Ayumu’s memories of the scene, but her magic instead of hurting gets absorbed within Ayumu. As a result, Haruna becomes powerless.

Ayumu orders her to help her in finding strange creatures called “Megalo” that wander around the human world and harm the people. Following the daily antics of the human-turned-zombie, Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Explores Ayumu’s newly found life where the supernatural occurrence is the only normal regime.

Similarity

The anime is a light-hearted one. It is all about the maniacs and involves gory action. The terrorizing part is played by zombies and the opposing party has a weapon specialist.

Sharing the similarity of murder, action, and gore sequences, both the anime has at least one girl with a rifle. While HighSchool of the Dead becomes more lustful, Hellsing Ultimate is all about cartoon comedy.

Synopsis

The night is full of dark and evil creatures who devour any human they caught their eyes on. Becoming a part of the daily night, the organization named Hellsing has sworn to destroy these devilish forces once and save humanity. The organization's most powerful military force is led by Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, who would stop at nothing to fight the undead.

Putting aside her military, her most reliable weapon is nothing but a monster himself: the vampire Alucard. Alucard works against his own race and is an exterminator for the organization. Along with his cheerful vampire servant, Seras Victoria, he has to fight monsters and stop those trying to stand against Hellsing.

The opposition can be in the guise of good or evil since appearance is deceiving. Hellsing Ultimate explores how appearances can cause people to take wrong steps and sometimes, the greatest support may come in the disguise of the worst nightmare.

Both anime exhibit similar feelings for survival with a bunch of people. In Kabaneri, the group majorly consists of cowardly people with only a few stronger ones. On the other hand, in Highschool of the Dead, each character is strong and becomes stronger with each episode.

Both anime revolves around killing the undead and saving the last-standing humans. They also similar fun elements, though Highschool is a little more on the edge.

Synopsis

The industrial revolution has taken the world by storm. Due to the development of a mysterious virus, horrifying creatures are coming into existence. They skin the human flesh to feed their never-satisfying appetite. The only way to kill them is by targeting their steel-coated hearts.

In case, one of these monsters bite the human, then the victim faces a fate worse than death. The fallen being rises once again but as a part of the undead.

Many fortified civilizations have managed to survive the catastrophe, the island of Hinomoto is among one of them. There, mankind lives within the protective massive walls which none of the monsters has been able to breach a bit. The only way in is through heavily-armored trains built and serviced by Ikoma, a young man. Ikoma has created a lethal weapon to take down the monsters once and for all. He awaits his chance to use it for real, which unexpectedly comes pretty sooner.

Both the story revolves around students and how they mature all by themselves to handle the situations more carefully. Each of them is mysterious, while Higurashi no Naku Koro ni is a bit more obscure. None of the anime holds anything back, inclusive of violence, revenge, and lecherous acts, either of them is worth watching if you liked the other.

Synopsis

In summer 1983, Keiichi Maebara has relocated to the little village of Hinamizawa. Not too late, he befriends his new schoolmates, Mion Sonozaki, Rena Ryuuguu, Satoko Houjou, and Rika Furude. But life isn’t what it seems for the protagonist, there’s a danger lies underneath his idyllic life.

The village is preparing for its annual festival, while Keiichi is being told about the local legends surrounding it. He learns that during the festival, many people have been murdered while some have disappeared in recent years. These all incidents seem to be related to the village’s patron god, Oyashiro. As Keiichi tries to get some insights from his friends, none of them heeds his request and instantly changes the topic, adding more to his suspicion.

With the festival approaching closer, more and more strange events are taking place, Keiichi now questions himself if he can trust anyone anymore. However, as determined as he is, his efforts will take him into the deep mysteries of a small village.

More than the story, both anime covers attraction and pleasure subject comparatively with much deeper thoughts.

Highschool of the Dead is surrounded by zombies. Amid this deadly crisis, the gang of gorgeous females takes control of the plot with their beauties. However, they are not merely doll-like figures but are also into destroying zombies and saving the world.

Triage X covers the city of corruption and hideous elements lurking in the shadows. A group of knights has sworn to protect the city from this vulnerability. Meanwhile, there’s nothing wrong with delivering a bit of fan service alike in Highschool of the Dead.

Synopsis

Losing everyone in his family and friends to a deadly terrorist attack, Arashi Mikami is the lone survivor with severe injuries. He is rescued by a surgeon who is not merely an ordinary doctor, but also a commander of a strike team called the Black Label. The team’s mission is to destroy all the deadly criminals who have wreaked way too much havoc.

Finding his new purpose in life, he is resolute and thus, joins the ranks of the vigilante group. Black Label has more targets than it can manage with evil scums wandering everywhere. Whether they are the dangerous arms dealers, shady gangsters, or corrupt politicians, all are subject to annihilation by the team. While each of the members has their own shady past, they are experts in slaying their subjects.

Despite the gritty environment, Arashi lives in, he still manages to surround himself with gorgeous females. Giving heat to the temptation and fighting alongside the team to get rid of the strong opponents, Arashi has a long way to go in Triage X.

Similarity

Both deal with the deal people whether it's zombies or dead kids. The fight is done in groups exploring the comical sides of characters alongside. The characters are fighting for survival both uncertain of what will happen next. Both are full of romance, action, and supernatural elements.

Synopsis

Otonashi awakens in the afterlife realizing that he has died in the human world. With no memories of the past except his name, the young boy’s new life is full of uncertainties and deadly threats at every wake of the path.

In the world, he is greeted by a girl named Yuri who explains to him about the new world. She is symbolized by a rifle that she carries everywhere. She tells him about her squad called the Afterlife Battlefront (Shinda Sekai Sensen) which is in constant war with an evil girl, Tenshi. Otonashi finds Yuri’s claims unbelievable and thus, decides to confront Tenshi on his won. Sadly, the meeting doesn’t go as expected and he returns to Yuri, eventually joining his squad.

Angel Beats! is a tale of Otoanshi’s struggles and adventures in the afterlife. Though he fights alongside Yuri, he has begun to harbor feelings for his opponent, Tenshi. Amid this racket, he is also regaining his past life memories that may change the plot once and for all.

The whole world is shaken because of a catastrophe whether it’s a zombie apocalypse or an earthquake. Everyone is in a state of panic and is struggling to survive. Both the anime are dramatic yet have a touch of realism where the characters are separated from their families and friends.

Synopsis

Mirai Onozawa is a middle school student. She is unhappy with her family situations and out of frustration, wishes to tear apart everything in her life. Soon enough her destructive wish is granted when an earthquake with a magnitude 8.0 suddenly turns everything shambolic. The whole city runs for survival.

Enjoying their summer vacation, Mirai takes her brother, Yuuki to Odaiba to visit a robot exhibition. When they approach the exhibition center, the very moment the fury of earthquake shakes up the entire Kanto region. Totally helpless, the kids experience the devastating situation of the natural disaster which has brought the whole city to its knees.

Luckily they meet a motorcyclist named Mari Kusakabe, who is also a single mother. She decides to help the siblings by taking them to a safe zone. With an aim to safely return their homes, the trio has to face a hard journey ahead, putting their lives at risk by every inch.

Both the anime begins with serious deadly issues such as zombies and mutants and then, throw the limelight on fan service. Both are equally gory, violent, and full of romanticism. The perfect action-pack anime with interesting diversions.

Synopsis

Known as “Diclonius”, Lucy is a special type of human. She is born with a natural pair of horns and telekinetic hands. Her unusual appearance sparks the government’s interest in her and she becomes a subject of an inhumane scientific experiment.

Fortunately, the ball rolls in her favor and she gets a perfect chance to escape. Saving herself from the confinement and torture, Lucy indulges in a series of bloodshed to get rid of her captors. In the process, her head gets severely injured and she ends up with a split personality. Now, she has the mentality of a harmless child and is capable of speaking a little.

In her psychotic condition, she stumbles upon two students, Kouta and Yuka, who take her into their care, completely oblivious to her killing instincts. Though their deed is an act of kindness, their lives soon shatter when they are drawn into the messy world of top brass secrecy and conspiracy.
