About Gintama

Set in the alternate history late Edo period, humanity is devastated by the alien invasion. These aliens called “Amanto” bring Japanese samurai to knee forcing them to surrender. As a result, new rules have been established within the country. Due to this, swords are prohibited from carrying in public and the government is nothing but a mere puppet now.

The series explores the eccentrics of samurai named Gintoki Sakata, who is an odd-jobs freelancer. Along with his companions Shinpachi Shimura, a teenager, and Kagura, a teenage alien girl, he indulges full time in his freelancing business, known as “Yorozuya” (The Anything Store).

As weird as it sounds, their endeavor always lands them in trouble with local authorities, police, and rebels. To say the least, anything that happens with Gintoki is troublesome yet hilarious in its own way.
