10 Great Cover Songs by Unknown Artists

I've listened to music religiously ever since I discovered Youtube when I was 11. I love it so much.

Many songs are so great and popular that tons of artists are making covers of them. Here are some relatively unknown artists that have made covers of popular songs.

1.Out of the Woods (Taylor Swift)-Relic Heart

2. Heart Wants What it Wants (Selena Gomez)-The Animal in Me

3. Torn (Natalie Imbruglia)-Hands Like Houses

4. Bad Blood (Taylor Swift)-Silence the City

5. 1-800-273-8255 (Logic)-Our Last Night

6. Ordinary World (Duran Duran)-Red

7.Carry on Wayward Son (Kansas)-The Showdown

8. Wrecking Ball (Miley Cyrus)-Cry to the Blind

9. Kiss From a Rose (Seal)-Wake Me

10. In the Night (the Weeknd)-Seraphim

1.Out of the Woods-Relic Heart

In 2014, the Rock band Relic Heart released a cover of Taylor Swift's smash hit, Out of the Woods. Taylor Swift said it was inspired by a relationship she was in (surprise, surprise) where she didn't know where it was going. Relationships, she said, are breakable and fragile.

2.The Heart Wants What it Wants-Animal in Me

Released in 2015, The Animal in Me, a band who has also released covers of Hello by Adele and Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen, put out a cover of The Heart Wants What It Wants by Selena Gomez. Selena touts the song being about a girl loving a bad boy despite knowing that he wasn't the best guy.

3.Torn-Hands Like Houses

A part of the 2014 release of Fearless Records Punk goes 90s vol. 2, Hands Like Houses put out a cover of Natalie Imbruglia's Torn. I found out while researching for this article, that that song is actually a cover as well. The song was originally performed by Danish singer Lis Sorensen in 1993 in Danish. It was later translated into English in 1996 when it was covered by Norwegian American singer Trina Rein.

4.Bad Blood-Silence the City

In 2015, rockband Silence the City released a cover of Taylor Swift's Bad Blood. A song off of T-Swifts 2014 album 1989, Bad Blood was written after she said that a female artist tried to sabotage her by hiring people that worked for her.

5.1-800-273-8255-Our Last Night

In 2017, Our Last Night made a cover of this Logic song. The title of this song is the National Suicide Hotline for the United States. Logic says the first hook of the song is in the perspective of someone calling on the Hotline, wanting to end their life. This massive hit song went quintuple platinum last August, selling over 5 million units and calls to the Hotline reportedly rose by 50% following the night of Logic's performance of this song at the MTV Video Music Awards.

6.Ordinary World-Red

I gotta admit; when I first heard this song, I didn't know it was a cover. Until I heard someone sing the song on The Voice, I thought Red wrote it. Duran Duran released this song in 1993 after a series of flops left them almost irrelevant in Britain. This song skyrocketed the band back into the limelight, making it as high as number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

7.Carry on Wayward Son-The Showdown

The Showdown covered this Kansas song in their 2007 album, Temptation Come My Way. Kansas originally released this song in 1976 on their Leftoverture Album, peaking at #11 on Billboard's Hot 100.

8.Wrecking Ball-Cry to the Blind

Cry to the Blind released this cover of Miley Cyrus' mega-hit on Christmas of 2013. Miley Cyrus said that this song was about a relationship deteriorating throughout time. The song sold over 3.5 million copies in the first year of release and reached the top of the Hot 100 in Canada.

9.Kiss from a Rose-Wake Me

Let me make one thing clear. Nothing can ever top the original of this song. It is just too good and iconic for that to be possible. However, this is still a great cover. Wake Me released this song on their 2011 album Sound of Burning Bridges, 20 years after the original was released. Fun fact: Seal actually wrote this song in 1987 but threw it away because he thought it was embarrassing. It wasn't until he was recording tracks for an album in 1991 that he showed to his producer Trevor Horn. Even though it was released, it didn't gain popularity until it was heard on the end credits of the 1994 Joel Schumacher Batman Forever. It hit #1 on the Billboard's Hot 100 and made the list of the Top 100 songs of the decade.

10.In The Night-Seraphim

The Metal band, Seraphim released a cover of the Weeknd's hit, In The Night in 2016. The Weeknd released the original on his 2015 album Beauty Behind the Madness.
