Tomoya Okazaki is a delinquent and leads a dull and aimless life. With his friend, Youhei Sunohara, he often avoids school and wastes his days wandering around. One day while surprisingly going to school, he notices a young girl talking to herself. At an instant, she exclaims “Anpan!” (Japanese food), which grabs his attention.

The girl is Nagisa Furukawa and she exclaims her favorite things to keep her motivated. Out of nowhere, she befriends Tomoya, but Tomoya dashes off to school without any response. But after the encounter, he finds Nagisa always roaming around his school. Out of options, he finally befriends her. Nagisa reveals she was held back a year because of a serious illness and she yearns to restore the school’s drama club. As aimless as he is ever, Tomoya decides to help her along with four other girls.

Clannad follows the life-changing story of Tomoya Okazaki, who with the help of Nagisa, begins to understand the real excitement of life.

Kanon revolves around the life of five girls who are connected to the same boy, Yuichi Aizawa. Aizawa is a high school student who has lost his memories after a long absence from the city. When he arrives in the city, he is completely detached and can recall only minor details of the incident that happened seven years ago. He needs help so he can regain his lost past. His first cousin, Nayuki tries to jog his memory, but to no use.

As the story proceeds, he becomes acquainted with the supernatural undertones of the city. Later when he meets the girls from his past, his memories begin to come back piece by piece.

Though Jinta Yadomi is a high school student, he spends most of his days as a recluse, away from school, and plays video games at home all the time. Initially, Jinta considers it a hallucination because of the summer heat but is later convinced that he is actually witnessing Menma’s ghost.
