About Tsubasa Chronicle

The story begins with childhood besties Sakura and Syaoran. Sakura is the princess of the Clow Kingdom and daughter of the late sovereign Clow Reed, while Syaoran is an archaeologist in the Clow Kingdom. One night Syaoran finds Sakura in an excavation site where her wings disappear into the air as small feathers. Unfortunately, losing the wings has made her lose her memory as well.

Now in the state of catatonia, Sakura is approaching closer to death. Syaoran takes the help of a dimensional witch, Yuko Ichihara, to bring her back alive. Paired with an exiled ninja, Kurogane, who is desperate to return home, and a magician, Fai D. Flowright, who would go anywhere besides his home, the trio needs to find Sakura’s feathers lost in the different dimensions. With each feather discovered, a part of Sakura’s memory returns to her though she can’t recall Syaoran due to a contract made with Yuko, the dimensional witch.

Tsubasa Chronicle follows the story of these three boys, along with Sakura and a tiny white creature, Mokona. As they move from dimensions to dimensions, they find Sakura’s feather but only after indulging in a life and death battle, as her feather bestows its owner with exceptional powers.

The anime is full of valor, bromance, and true love. While watching Tsubasa Chronicle over and over again, I can think of nothing else but the following anime.

Made by CLAMP, both the anime has exactly the same characters with similar relations. They show a strong romantic bond between Sakura and Syaoran. The characters have to fight supernatural elements to achieve a specific goal. The protagonists have hidden enemies. The story is full of twists and turns uncertain of what will occur next.

Synopsis

Sakura Kinomoto is a 10-year-old fourth-grader. One day after returning home from school, she finds a mysterious book in her home library. The book has a pile of cards that scatter away in the whole world due to a gust of wind before she even had the chance to take a look at them.

Left with only one card in her hand imprinted with the word “Wind” she meets a strange teddy bear-like creature emerging from inside the book. He introduces himself as Keroberos, the Beast of the Seal. Disgusted by the fact that Sakura has lost all the cards, he reveals the cards had magical spirits trapped within them who can wreak havoc across the world if not captured on time. As a result, he appoints Sakura as master of the cards, thus giving her the title of “Cardcaptor”.

Everything changed within a whiff, Sakura now has to capture all the cards before they cause any casualty to the general public. However, ahead in her path, she has rivals and other powerful magicians, who would do anything to prevent her from becoming the master of the most powerful cards in the world.

Similarity

The theme is quite similar to Tsubasa Chronicle. Memories are scattered in unknown locales and they need to be discovered to understand the occurrence of unnatural events. The characters have to travel from place to place. Both anime has outstanding music. Each of them has gory twists and turns, and also has hidden enemies.

Synopsis

Oz Vessalius is a young boy with a luxurious lifestyle. He is the rightful heir to the Vessalius Duke House. Since his childhood days, he has heard the frightening stories of the Abyss, the perilous world, which is said to exist only in folktale. However, his thoughts are about to be revamped.

On his coming-of-age ceremony, he encounters the malicious Baskerville Clan who wants to throw him off into the deep heel of the Abyss. Realizing the so-called folktale is actually a real-world, Oz apprehends his luxurious days have reached its finale. Now, forced into the world of the Abyss, Oz must learn to adapt to his new life while also attempting to discover his reason for existence.

Within the Abyss, he meets its monstrous inhabitants called “Chains”, among whom, some do have a good heart. He stumbles upon Alice, who is referred to as “Bloodstained Black Rabbit” and a secret organization named Pandora. Joining the ranks of Pandora, Oz must find a way out, while helping his newly found friends alongside.

In both of the anime, the male characters with a determined goal are travelling with a female companion. Both of them have chances of romance and later, the characters end up confessing their love for each other. Most importantly, the characters in each of the anime are looking for shattered pieces for the greater good of the world they live in.

Synopsis

The normal life of a 15-year-old Kagome Higurashi meets its end when she is forcefully thrown into a well by a demon. However, instead of dying, she reaches 500 years back in history. The timeline begins from the violent Sengoku period, where the world is dominated by demons.

The demon who threw Kagome into the well is actually looking for a wish-granting jewel reborn inside her body. The jewel is the Shikon Jewel, which gets shattered when Kagome is unexpectedly attacked by a demon. To collect the pieces back and save the world from catastrophe, she takes the help of InuYasha, a young half-demon and half-human being. They are accompanied by Shippo, a fox-demon, Miroku, a monk, and Sango, a demon slayer.

The anime follows the dangerous journey of these comrades who need to set aside their differences and learn to exist together in this demon-infested world.

Both are CLAMP creation. One of the Kobato episodes also features Syaoran and other characters of Tsubasa Chronicle. The characters want to collect something important to ensure their survival. Filled with emotions, humour, and unexpected twists, both the anime are remarkably romantic and comparable.

Synopsis

Sweet and naive though she is, Hanato Kobato has arrived at Earth for a serious mission. She has to collect and fill a magical bottle with “Konpeito” (a Japanese sugar candy) that appears only after she helps a person recover from damages or intense sufferings.

Kobato needs to take this endeavour to fulfil her dream of travelling to a certain place. Despite her atypical demeanour, she is perfectly fit for the mission. She helps people with utmost sincerity that let her earn their love and admiration. However, she is prohibited from falling in love with all those whom she helps in recovering.

A musical romantic story, the anime explores various human emotions and how these feelings affect the people around.

Both the anime starts romantic and light-hearted, but later turns dark and unexpected. Both evolve on universal physics theory, which is neither factual nor fictitious. The characters travel amid dimensions and race against the time-space continuum. The characters have to sacrifice something valuable in order to achieve their goals. They have to face intense suffering and deal with villains alongside.

Synopsis

Madoka Kaname and Sayaka Miki are ordinary middle school students. Their regular lives are troubled with the arrival of Homura Akemi, the new transfer student, and Kyuubey, a cat-like magical creature.

Kyuubey, who apparently looks virtuous, offers them a proposal. He can grant them any wish they ask for in return for which, they have to become a magical girl. The magic will bestow them with enough power to do anything they desire. Homura Akemi, who apparently looks suspicious and is a magical girl herself, insists on not accepting the offer as everything isn’t the way it seems.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica is a story of hope, despair, and friendship. It explores the struggles of being a magical girl and the suffering one needs to endure to make their dreams come true.

The characters are searching for something of extreme value, whether it’s wings feathers, or pieces of hearts. Both the anime shows struggling love story, in which the characters stick together but are actually far apart. Both are musical and a bit humorous.

Synopsis

Everything looks like a fairy tale in the world of Ahiru. She is clumsy, gentle, sweet, and an unusual protagonist. In reality, she is magical just like talking animals who have their own dwelling places. Ahiru is, in fact, a duck. She is transformed by a mysterious writer named Drosselmeyer into a young girl.

Soon enough, she discovers the truth about her existence. With the help of a magical pendant, she can change herself into Princess Tutu, a stunning, talented ballet dancer. As a ballerina, her performance helps people in dealing with their personal sufferings.

Adapting to her newly found prowess, Ahiru takes the challenge of finding the lost pieces of her prince’s heart.

Princess Tutu is a saga of struggling heroes who have to race against fate to save the characters from devilish vibes. Their determination to remain focused on their goals will decide if it’s really worthy of a happy ending or not.

The female character is pretty like Sakura. Both are traveling from place to place. The plot is different, but the vibes are similar. If you liked Tsubasa Chronicle, you’ll favor Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi too even if they are only slightly relatable.

Synopsis

God has forsaken the human world. As a result, no one can die nor anyone can be born, and thus, the dead continuously walk with the living. Before turning away permanently, God granted one let miracle in the form of “Grave-keepers”. These are supernatural beings who can put the dead to rest with means of a proper burial.

The story revolves around a grave-keeper named Ai, who is a naive yet cheerful young girl. She lives in a small village and serves them in place of her late mother. One terrifying day, a mysterious man named Hampnie Hambart arrives in the village and kills all the inhabitants. Left with no one to serve, Ai is now purposeless and all alone. So, she decides to accompany Hampnie on his journey, who is apparently Ai’s father as well.

As Ai travels the world, she strives to fulfill her duties as a grave-keeper ensuring peace to everyone. She also discovers how tragic the land has become after God’s departure.

Both the female characters are the princesses of a powerful kingdom. Due to varied reasons, they have to leave behind their homeland and travel from place to place. They are accompanied by a male character, who harbors feelings for them. Along the way, they meet new people and make friends. The princesses start weak and fragile, but later become a strong part of the story.

Synopsis

Princess Yona, as the princess of the Kouka Kingdom, leads a luxurious and comfortable life. The only thing that worries her is her unruly crimson hair. She is in love with her cousin Soo-won and desires to marry him someday. To pursue her father for the marriage, she visits him at night in his quarter only to find that he is murdered by Soo-won.

Devastated by the truth, she is forced to flee from her home along with her bodyguard and childhood friend, Hak. Living away from home, Yona discovers the harsh reality of her kingdom, she witnesses people living impoverished life and are the victims of corruption and persecution at the hands of riches. Determined to free her kingdom from tyranny and reclaim the throne, she embarks on a journey to find the string allies.

Akatsuki no Yona chronicles the struggle of Princess Yona with a humorous and war-like approach. She later comes across a prophecy that urges her to find four dragon warriors who will serve and support her in her mission.

There’s also a budding romance as the male protagonist in both the anime is chasing the female lead to ensure her safety.

Synopsis

The world has found the new entrainment source in the form of Action Duels. In this, the duelists are allowed to soar and swing along with their Duel Monsters. After an evolutionary accomplishment, the Solid Vision system is now capable of providing Duel Monsters with mass.

The protagonist Yuuya Sakaki’s father Yuusho Sakaki is the founder of You Show Duel School in Miami City. Yuusho believes that duels are not meant for war, but are the medium of bringing smiles to people. Due to this, he presented the concept of Entertainment Duels. Unfortunately, Yuusho disappears at the very night of his fame and thus, couldn’t participate in his duel with Ishijima, who is a popular Action Duel Champion. Disheartened though Yuuya is, he decides to become an Entertainment Duelist just like his father.

After a few years, when Yuuya is in a duel with the Strong Ishijima, an unexpected miracle occurs. His pendant starts to glow and he is presented with Pendulum Cards. The cards let him perform a Pendulum Summon, a summoning technique unknown to everyone including Yuuya himself. Not too late, he gains overnight fame. However, as the story progresses, he soon begins to realize what it takes to be an Entertainment Duelist.

Both the anime primarily focuses on the love theme. The love story is smooth yet full of complexities. As a result, the characters go through various ups and downs. All these upheavals later lead to the bigger events that end up shaking the entire world.

Synopsis

Yoshino Takigawa is a normal teenager, who is dating his best friend Mahiro’s sister, Aika, in secret. One day Aika mysteriously dies, determined to take revenge for his sister’s death, Mahiro goes to some unknown location and doesn't return for a month. Yoshino continues with his usual life until one day he stumbles upon a strange girl who takes him at the gunpoint. Luckily, his best friend arrives in time to rescue him.

Mahiro reveals to Yoshino that he has asked for help from a witch named Hakaze Kusaribe to discover his sister’s murderers. He also informs him about the existence of a supernatural entity called the “Tree of Exodus”.

Unfortunately, things don’t look quite promising as Hakaze is banished to a desolate island. Now, the duo not only has to unravel the secret behind Aika’s death but also has to make it to Hakaze to protect the world they live in.
