About Gosick

Gosick takes place in the Southern European country of Sauville. Kazuya Kujou is the son of a high-ranking official of the Japanese Army. He is a transfer student at Saint Marguerite Academy, a popular lavish boarding school, known for its urban legends and horror stories. Being originally from Japan, Kazuya has black hair and dark eyes, which makes him earn the nickname “Black Reaper”, a character from an urban legend who brings death during the spring.

it’s like any other normal day, Kazuya has arrived at the school’s library to look for ghost stories. His search is intervened when he finds a golden strand of hair on the stairs. Following the steps, he comes across a beautiful doll-like young girl named Victorique de Blois.

Victorique is a mysterious girl with a brilliant mind. She never attends classes and spends her each day reading various materials in the library. She works to solve those mysteries that even the detectives can’t put their fingers on. As more brain-stabbing mysteries start to emerge, Victorique and Kazuya have to work together for their unique skills to end these mishaps once and for all.

Synopsis

Dantalian no Shoka is set in England after World War I. Six months ago, “Huey” or Lord Hugh Anthony Disward loses his eccentric grandfather, Sir Wesley Disward to death. His grandfather was known for his collection of rare books. As per his will, Huey has to take guardianship over the Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian, which is an archive of forbidden knowledge before he could claim the manor as his own.

On his arrival at the location, he meets a child named Dalian, who is actually the guardian of the Archives. She informs him about “Phantom Books”, which are said to be cursed objects and many people are known to misuse it for their own needs. Huey’s grandfather wanted to seal it away but was actually murdered before he could do so.

On learning that the archives and Dalian are one and the same thing, Huey is entrusted to become Dalian’s key keeper. Together, they have to find every Phantom Book and seal it away before any further harm could be done to the area.

Both the anime has a similar female character that appoints an average character as their bodyguards. While their characters differ a lot in their personality, their goals are quite similar and the environment is also relatable.

Synopsis

Narumi Fujishima is a pessimistic outsider, who actually looks like a normal high school student. Because of his father’s work, he has to travel from places to places and change schools accordingly. Due to which, he has not yet become a part of any society.

In his school, his classmate Ayaka Shinozaki forces him to join the gardening club. Here, he meets the genius hacker named Alice, who lives a solitary life above a ramen shop called Hanamaru, where Ayaka is a part-timer. He learns that Alice runs a private detective agency and all her associates call themselves NEETs i.e. Not in Education, Employment, or Training.

With Narumi being the newest member of Alice’s agency, he is now intertwined in the world of dangerous investigations. As he begins to actively participate in the matter, he learns there’s a crime syndicate with some mysterious ties to Alice.

Synopsis

Houtarou Oreki, a high school student, believes in preserving his energy for the worst and doesn’t believe in becoming a part of any club. However, after her sister’s initiation, he is forced to join the Classics Club, but becomes interested in it himself, when he learns about its history. Not too late, Oreki is assigned a task to investigate a 45-year-old mystery that goes around the club room.

Along with other club members, Satoshi Fukube, the smart one, Mayaka Ibara, the serious yet gentle one, and Eru Chitanda, the forever curious one, Oreki must meet the deadlines. But the problem is they lack resources and required talent. As they attempt to save the years-old mystery, they also have to deal with side cases at the same.

Hyouka follows the journey of these high school students. Through their perspective, the anime shows how normal life can be full of several interesting mysteries, whether it’s a student film, family history, or a falisfied ghost story.

Synopsis

Known better as the Queen’s Guard Dog, the young Ciel Phantomhive is an earl and the head of the Phantomhive family. He takes care of unsettling events that manifest in Victorian England merely for the sake of Her Majesty. Accompanied by his butler, Sebastian Michaelis, who is loyal to a fault, Ciel uses any means possible to get done with the situation.

Though Sebastian looks like a well-mannered handsome butler, he possesses inhuman abilities and there’s more to him behind the human mask. He is actually a demon and has formed a contract with Ciel. According to the contract, he’ll help Ciel find those who wronged him and made him an orphan, and in return Ciel with have to offer his soul to Sebastian. Irrespective of what he is deep down, Sebastian is a perfect servant and carries out his master’s orders with full dedication.

Kuroshitsuji follows the dark and gritty relationship of an incongruous duo, who eventually forms a bond that goes beyond the realm of heaven and hell.

Synopsis

Set in the dystopian futuristic world, Shinjuurou Yuuki works as a detective and is often called the “Defeated Detective”. He solves all sorts of mysteries across Tokyo. Accompanied by a cranky associate, Inga, Shinjuurou uses his tactics and insights to crack cases, that majorly involve homicides.

In the process, Shinjuurou earns numerous solved cases to his name, catching the suspects alongside. On the other hand, his associate apparently has more selfish thoughts about the cases. As her sinister intentions for the culprits come into the limelight, the truth of her identity and real motivation emerges from the dark, turning the entire plot upside down.

Synopsis

Despite just a high school student, Shinichi Kudou is bestowed with extraordinary talent in detective work. He is famous for solving unusually challenging cases. On suspecting two men may be indulged in illegal activity, he decides to follow them and inadvertently witnesses something quite horrifying. He is caught in the moment and the men inject an experimental drug into him, which is prepared by a criminal organization. Shinichi is left in a critical state to die. However, he surprisingly survives to live yet another day, but as a seven-year-old child.

Luckily the alteration hasn’t affected his intelligence at all, he uses his wits to hide his identity even from his childhood friend, Ran Mouri. He renames himself Conan Edogawa after the famous writers Arthur Conan Doyle and Ranpo Edogawa.

Detective Conan chronicles the life of young Conan as a detective in solitude. He not only has to help Mouri’s father with his mystery cases but also find out the people responsible for his situation.

Synopsis

Oz Vessalius is a young heir to the Vessalius Duke House. He is often told about a perilous world name the Abyss, which exists merely in a fairytale to scare the mischievous children. However, his nightmare soon become reality at his coming-of-age ceremony. He encounters the hostile Baskerville Clan who is determined to banish him into the darkness of the Abyss. Oz realizes his luxurious comfort is about to end.

Forced to separate from his ordinary life, Oz is now confined in the Abyss which apparently has no exit. He must learn to live with its dwellers, who are the monstrous creatures called “Chains”. He finally realizes whatever he was told as a child about the Abyss is indeed true.

Pandora Hearts is a supernatural fantasy anime revolving around the life of a 15-year-old Oz. As he explores the mysteries of Abyss, he learns the reasons why these strange events are happening to him. He finds companionship in one of the Chains named Alice, who help him become a part of a secret organization called “Pandora”, thus letting him discover more about himself in the process.

Synopsis

Taking place at the island of Rokkenjima, the place is owned by an extremely wealthy Ushiromiya family. It is that time of the year when the entire family gathers at the island for a meet up to learn about each person’s financial circumstances. Unfortunately, this time the family head’s health is in a critical state, so everyone will gather to discuss the family’s inheritance and how it has to be distributed.

Since he is near his end, the family head is not at all concerned with his wealth distribution. In fact, after his physician and a long-time friend confirmed his final days, all he wants is to meet his lifelong love, Beatrice, the Golden Witch.

Embraced with the knowledge of black magic, the family head initiates a ceremony to once again meet with his beloved after his family arrives on the island. Not too late, a deadly typhoon attacks the family leading to a series of mysterious murders. Now, the eighteen people present on the distant island have to fight for their survival while stuck in between the realm of fantasy and reality.
