Robert Odell Jr (author) from Memphis, Tennessee on May 31, 2019:

I agree that parents do need to step up to their responsibilites and make certain that their children go to school or recieve high quality home schooling. Some states have taken measures to ensure that happens. Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Illinos, Michigan, and Ohio are states where the parents or guardians of truant children can be arrested for contributing to the neglect of a child.

Thank you for reading the article and for posting your opinion about state truancy laws.

Death of Freedom on April 23, 2019:

Truancy totalitarian laws are a way of letting the state enforce its police state mentality on the citizenry. Truancy as a warning sign of future problems is a false association and these laws are another excuse for the government to decide what's best for your own children against your paternal rights. If this is indeed a free country, then we have a right to remove our children from these failing schools for ANY reason at ANY time.
