Songs about Volcanoes
Volcanoes, Lava, and Magma Music
Magma, lava, and vulcanologists all make for hot songs!
There are some good songs about geology out there, but my favorites are often songs about volcanoes and other igneous features.
Check out the songs below and see what you think.
Geology Songs as Gifts
Geology Songs as Gifts
Have a geologist that rocks your world? Give them the gift of song!
Get some of the geology songs mentioned on this page and my other geology song pages, then burn them onto a CD or place them in their mp3 player. It'll be a fun and creative gift they'll remember every time they listen to the songs :)
This Volcanic Page
I'll be adding more songs about volcanoes, magma, geology and the earth sciences as I find them.
I tried to put the lyrics when I could find them. Also, some songs are only available on Amazon or only on YouTube, wherever I could find them I added them. When the song was both on YouTube and Amazon I put both in case you want to own it for yourself. I know a lot these are on my download list.
Hope you enjoy, and rock on!
Ring of Fire - By Dr. Richard Alley
This song is a parody of "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash.
It talks about the Pacific Ring of Fire, a highly active area known for its subduction zones and consequently, earthquakes and volcanoes.
Ring of Fire Lyrics
Lyrics:
Ring of Fire
Subduction is a burning thing,
It feeds a fiery ring,
Cold, dense ocean floor will soon retire,
down through the mantle for a ring of fire.
Subduction scrapes off mud
'round a burning ring of fire
Takes water down,
Drives the volcanoes higher.
Makes light andesite,
from a ring of fire,
a ring of fire
Basalt is born cold and dark
At a spreading ridge or
Hawaii's Hot Spot Park.
Dangerous stratavolcanoes
Fountain higher
when fed by subduction
and a ring of fire.
Subduction scrapes off mud
'round a burning ring of fire
Takes water down,
Drives the volcanoes higher.
Makes light andesite,
at a Ring of fire,
a ring of fire
Great earthquakes from
the moving load
Stick, slip, and plates
just might implode
Eruptions, landslides
we require
Tsunami warnings
from the Ring of Fire
Subduction scrapes off mud
'round a burning ring of fire
Takes water down,
Drives the volcanoes higher.
Makes light andesite,
at a Ring of fire,
a ring of fire
St Helens blew high
others blow higher
Go in awe and fear
to the Ring of Fire
The Ring of Fire
The Ring of Fire

Eyjafjallajokull Song
Eyjafjallajokull - pronounced ay-uh-fyat-luh-yoe-kuutl-ul - is the name of Iceland's volcano that in 2010 threw up plumes of ash clouds, causing airspaces across Europe to close down.
If a plane flies through volcanic ash and it is sucked into the engines, it can cause a plane to stall and crash.
Leaving on a Jet Plane Parody
This volcano song is a parody of Leaving a Jet Plane.
It's called Maybe Leaving on a Jet Plane and it's about the Iceland volcano that shut down air traffic for a while in 2010.
Teaching Kids About Volcanoes
The volcanic song below is a cute one for kids from Mr. R.'s Songs for Teaching.

LYRICS
Oh-Oh-Oh,
Volcano,
Oh- Volcano,
Don't erupt right now!
Oh-Oh-Oh,
Volcano,
Oh-Volcano,
Don't Ka-boom Ka-pow!
Magma, magma
Ready to blow,
Magma, magma
Out the vent hole!
Lava, lava,
Flowing right down,
Lava, lava,
Let's get outta' town...
Oh-Oh-Oh,
Volcano,
Oh- Volcano,
Don't erupt right now!
Oh-Oh-Oh,
Volcano,
Oh-Volcano,
Don't Ka-boom Ka-pow!
Gas, and Ash, and molten lava,
From volcanoes fly,
Eruptions send all types of things,
Up into the sky! (repeat)
Magma, magma
Ready to blow,
Magma, magma
Out the vent hole!
Lava, lava,
Flowing right down,
Lava, lava,
Let's get outta' town...
Oh-Oh-Oh,
Volcano,
Oh- Volcano,
Don't erupt right now!
Oh-Oh-Oh,
Volcano,
Oh-Volcano,
Don't Ka-boom Ka-pow!
(RAP Section)
Mt. St Helens,
Mauna Loa,
Those are only 2,
Etna & Vesuvius,
Tall ones with a view!
Pinatubo Philippines,
Japan has Mount Fuji,
Arenal, Costa Rica,
More below the sea!
Colima's there in Mexico,
Thera's there in Greece,
Volcanoes are erupting,
There's never any peace...
Galeras in Colombia,
Rising so much higher,
Krakatoa, Indonesia,
In the Ring of fire!
Oh-Oh-Oh,
Volcano,
Oh- Volcano,
Don't erupt right now!
Oh-Oh-Oh,
Volcano,
Oh-Volcano,
Don't Ka-boom Ka-pow!
