Forests are the life-givers of animals. History tells that primitive man was born in the forests. Towns and villages were settled much later. Human society originated in the forests themselves. The development of human civilization also took place in the forests. Indian sages lived in the forests and were engaged in the activities of penance, study, and health. Great characters were created in the forests. But it is a matter of regret that today's man is engaged in cutting and destroying forests. The importance and usefulness of forests have been forgotten, due to which it is facing many difficulties. Today the whole environment is in the grip of pollution and continuous erosion of forests is causing the increase in it.
Main reasons behind the depletion of forests
The main reason for the depletion of forests is the increasing population of the country. As the population of the country increases, more space is needed for such people to live. They need a house to live in. Wood is used in the house. More land is also needed for the expansion of agriculture. Also, Industries develop due to which the consumption of wood increases further. To meet such needs, forests are cut continuously. Thus, the far-reaching consequences of deforestation are not taken into account in order to avail immediate benefits.
Benefits of forests
Forests have a lot of utility in our life. If there is no forest, then the very existence of human life will be in danger. We have many benefits from forests. In brief, they can be described as follows-
1.Purification of the atmosphere - Science has proved that trees take in polluted air and give out pure life air. Trees themselves absorb the air that has been contaminated by the breathing of many living beings of the world and purifies it and takes it out. Due to this, the living beings get pure air to breathe. In the absence of trees, the polluted air of the entire environment will have to be consumed by the creatures, which will end their life.
2.Protect against soil erosion - Trees protect the land from erosion. A lot of soil gets washed away by rainwater and goes into rivers and seas. Only the top layer of the land is useful for agriculture. If this soil gets washed away then the fertile power of the land ends. The roots of trees go deep into the ground and seal the soil and the soil does not flow with water.
3.Getting things used in daily life - We get many things from forests. Wood for cooking and wood for houses is obtained from forests. Medicines, furniture, fruits, gum, honey, flowers, clothes, food, etc. are obtained from forests. The protection and movement of life are possible only by the protection of forests.
4.Bring rain - In the regions where there are more trees, there is more rainfall. Where there are no trees, there is a lack of rain. This is the reason that there is a lot of rainfall on the slopes of the Himalayas and Rajasthan is often lacking in rainfall. Therefore, having more and more rainfall is beneficial for agriculture. Cutting down trees and forests is like making that place a desert.
5.Peacemaker - The environment of the forests is very calm and satisfying. In ancient times, the sages of our country did severe penances while living in the forests. He had also obtained spiritual knowledge of a high order by staying in the forests. Sacred texts like Vedas, Upanishads were not composed in big cities or settlements, but in forests. Therefore, in the last phase of life, after taking Sanyas Ashram, people used to go to the forests to lead a peaceful life. He used to gain peace by worshiping God and doing self-realization.
In the end, I would like to say that forest conservation should be given the most importance. The government has also now made efforts in this direction. Social consciousness is also developing. We first have to control the population. We should understand the importance of trees seriously. With the increase in forests, our life will become balanced in every respect. Therefore, every person should take a vow that he will definitely plant a tree every year.
